Not only do we introduce you to the newest talents out, but you know we gotta keep you updated on the OG's, the veterans, the very first ones to put it down for the West Coast.
E-A Ski is one of these veterans that has been in the game for almost 20 years, representing for Oakland, CA. Having had very bad luck with his labels, he's yet to release an official solo album. 2006 could be his year though. After being pushed back for years, his highly anticipated album "Apply Pressure" is now completed and scheduled for a 2006 release.
He just unleashed a new summer single to the radio stations, a collaboration with fellow Oakland legend Too $hort, called "The Resume". I caught up with E-A Ski to speak about the new single and the album.
"Basically alotta cats don't understand the history of this music thang. You got to have a resume. It's alotta cats rappin' for 2 years and they think that makes them reptable, cause they homeboys tell them they hot. Too Short and me have had hits.", he said, explaining the concept of "The Resume".
"I been here for 20 years, Short been here for 25 years! So it was only right, bein' from Oakland, to do this song. I couldn't have been valid if I didn't do somethin' with Too Short, to represent Oakland. Too Short was the one that made it hot to be able to talk about where you from. I called the record "Resume" so they would know we been holdin' it down, and anybody who hates on us gotta be out they mind. Half these cats ain't gone have careers long as us."
But the main question remains, when will we see "Apply Pressure" in stores? "It's coming in 2006 man. I got my own label, I.M.G. Music, and I'm in talks with different companies. It's gonna come out when everything is ready and I'm in a good position."
Having waited for so long, Ski has been relentlessly recording new material throughout the years. "The album I got now is a complete new record from the record I had in 2003. The vibe has changed. With time, things change, you gotta be able to reinvent yourself, that's what it's about. I've had to change the album to fit what I'm doin' right now. On the single, "Resume", I speak on cats that think that making a hit record is an accident. They think it's easy to make a "Blast If I Have To", that it's easy to make a record with Dr. Dre or Ice Cube."
"It's not hard for me to put a record out", Ski says. "It's just that I've been here a long time and I don't HAVE to put a record out. I want to have it right. I'm here to make sure my record is pushed right. I want to have the best shot and be able to bring in goog sales. I'm not going to put out a record and see no return. I'm an artist and producer, so I gotta make sure everything sounds right.".
So is that time now? "Right now I'm feeling good about it. I'm feeling comfortable with my situation. The album is sounding good. I mean I can't distribute the record myself. I can't market a album myself. All I can do is give you my records. I need to have everything right! Just rushing an album and putting it out like that, is like throwing a new born baby in the garbabe. That's unacceptable! I do'nt put out music just to be a rapper! I'm trying to make music to move the world. If I'm not in the right position, I don't want to do it."
On to the facts. "Apply Pressure" is entirely produced by E-A Ski and CMT, and features the likes of Ice Cube, MC Ren, Kay Slay, Too Short, Royce Da 5'9, Jae Millz, E-40, Keak Da Sneak, B-Legit, The Frontline, B.O.X. amongst others.

I hope 2006 is the year. I've been waiting for a CD from Ski for like 10 years. Those Frontline CDs are banging, so I'm expecting his CD to be just as hot.

Another sick track from E-A-Ski, nice to see the collabo with Too $hort too.
Apply Pressure is going to be a legendary album, fuck this detox and aftermath production, it's all about Ski & CMT.
