Title: Dre beats that you feel were Detox quality
Post by: R-Tistic on August 07, 2005, 02:09:50 AM
Since Dre/Chronic 01 came out, what beats from Dre do you feel were solid enough to be on Detox, whether or not they were rumored to be beats that were going to be on Detox? I'd also say that you can list beats that may sound a BIT outdated at the time and don't sound like a 2005 Dre beat...but try not to list beats that sound exactly as if they were made during the Dre 2001 phase (B Please II, Kill you)

1. 50 - In da club
2. - 50 - Outta Control (original)
3. Game - Higher
4. Game - Start from scratch
5. Game - How we do
6. Xzibit - Lose ya mind
7. 50 - Outta Control (remix, IF Dre did do it)
8. Mary J - Family affair
9. Xzibit - Get yo walk on (co-produced by Battlecat)
10. Snoop n Dre - The Wash
11. Warren G - Lookin at you
12. Nate Dogg - Your wife
13. 50 - Back down
14. Eve and Mary - Not today
15. G-Unit - Poppin them thangs
16. The watcher 2 (sounds like a 2002'd out version of the original)
17. Jay-Z, Game, Dre - Nigga like me/Get yo money right
18. Obie Trice - Oh
19. Obie Trice - The set up
20. The Game - Don't worry

Personally, if Dre made an album that was 80% as good as these songs production wise but had the same consistency and sounded more advanced musically, it would easily be another classic.

Dre had nothing to do wit Get Your Walk On,it was produced by both Mel-man & Battlecat.

Could be right then, I know Battlecat was on it but I thought it was Dre with him. My bad

Obie Trice - Look Into My Eyes & Oh
the Oh beat is one of the best beats i´ve heard in recent years and i never would´ve noticed how dope it really is if wasn´t for Mellowman coz i never paid any attention to the beat switching up like that.

Yeah I never noticed it until then either. I'm always finding new things in Dre beats.

D12 Fight Music was pretty sick too.  I hear he has a computer full of beats and he probably has 20 secret ones stashed away.

The beat he used at the end of the Next Episode video to promote Up in Smoke was sick as fuck too.

The four records he did for Obie Trice were on some new shit at the time.

Look In My Eyes had that string arrangement that one would assume sounds like a Detox beat. Shit Hits The Fan was probably the most "2001" sounding beat, but still dope. "The Setup" and "Oh!" were tracks that Dre pulled outta nowhere, like damn. "Oh" screams Detox because of the ill switch-ups during the verses. There's like 15 different layers on that beat.

The Dre tracks on Beg For Mercy and D12 World were more vintage Dre beats, still banging. Then, recently a few tracks came out that I think are on Detox-level quality.

"Westside Story" - sonically, the beat is underrated. It's simple as fuck, but the mixing sounds dope.

"How We Do" - remember the idea of Dre doing a beat that sounds real old fashioned, but polished up...like a late 80's, early 90's style...this beat is classic because it reunites Dre with 808's, and the melody itself is sick.

"Start From Scratch" - I'm convinced this beat was recorded for the Detox album. I recall a Scott Storch article where he talked about recording tracks with Dre and that it was coming out crazy. This song represents everything I'm expecting from the album. Epic production, incredible concepts and above average performance.

"Encore" - Again with the musical additions hitting at certain points. A more recent example of the club banger shit Dre is known for. Another cut I think was made with Detox in mind.

"Higher" - thumping beat, that showcases new directions with the drums and arrangements. This could've been a Detox instrumental.

"Outta Control" - same story with Higher, only this time it's more musicial. Just another crazy club track, keeping up with the thumping vibe developed with the other tracks.

If these are 'previews' or slight hints at direction for the album, we got something sick to look forward to.

Im pretty sure we havent heard much of the Detox stuff yet. But i know Higher was originally planned for Detox, and I'm sure some of the other Detox tracks he gave away are gonna be on Busta's, Stat Quo's and Eve's albums. BUT im 100% sure that Obie Trice had tracks from Rakim's "Oh My God" album. :(

Oh from Obie and The Future beat from Stat and Start from Scratch. The rest is bangin but nothing new. Plus for me too many beats have the same structure , sounds like a part 2. Higher-Out of Control, Mosh-When the guns come out. Plus westside story is like a mix of In Da Club and Still Dre. They slow down the keys and take the guitar from In Da Club

The rest, nice but nothing new

I just listened to Outta Control remix for the first time.  call me crazy but it reminds more of Quik than Dre.  the keys arn't hard hitting like dre usally does.  it's more melodic like quik.  and the guitar in the back round is Quik signature.  but that's just me.  nice beat.

^I agree. That's why I didn't like the beat at first. To me it didn't sound like a dre beat- the keys are usually hardhitting and like you said the guitar in the background is quik's signatue. He did say he wanted detox to be his most musically advanced album. Maybe he been listening to quik lately and picked up a couple tips. 8)

i think setup and oh from obies album was something new and fresh at the time along with poppin them thangs and g'd up were his best beats in a minute,

id probably say

in da club=obvious straight heat, could probably see dre snoop and xzibit killin this shit, but thats not taking anything away from 50 cuz he rode the beat in his own way and it made him who he is today

back down = shits straight heat, dont think i could see this on detox but its still sick......its near that type of quality.....

oh = shiit this was made for detox, no way he got into a studio with obie and got inspired to make a beat like this for him.....dre eminem(from when he could spit like nigga) and some crazy ass bitch to kill the hook

setup = straight up dre/snoop funk on this.......plus bring back devin and u got another 5/5 joint, haha

poppin tham thangs = def made with thought to detox, dre to kill the verses and snoop on the hook and a speak some shit, sounds dope, haha

g'd up = crazy dark beat but i couldnt see it on detox, its not jus dark enough still with a west vibe to it, sounds like it was made for 50.....but i aint gonna hate cuz gd up was a 5/5 joint anyway

ass like that = crazy beat, wack shit by eminem.....like i said his gettin lighter with each album....he cant spit over shit like this........i dunno if this would made detox anyways but i think its a heated beat

how we do = keep game and 50 on it, but with one verse each and add a snoop and dre verse and u got some crazy shit.....or take 50 off and put xzibit in it and u gotta bitch pleez style lineup and its all westcoast, haha plus the beats crazy, shit was played in every ride when it dropped

start from scratch =  i think this was definately made with detox in mind, i think dre went for a watcher style beat, could def see dre go solo on this....but still on of the class of the watcher beat.....

outta control = crazy beat, seems like a improved version of higher but couldnt see dre on this.....

thats some crazy heat from dre but how much of that would really be considered for detox if it wasnt made yet.......probably start from scratch, oh, how we do, setup, poppin them thangs and in da club....

i still think dre got better shit to come, detox will be off the hook i hope, i hope the lineup is crazy to........cats be like i hope its only dre on this.....but while i agree with that to a certain extent cuz its sick listenin dre spit but his the only cat in the game who gets the all star lineups.......he could get some crazy lineups on some joints for detox, i cant wait for the album....but i aint expecting it anytime soon either so while im pumped.......its measured,haha.....like i got other shit to look forward until then

peace!

lets see what heat dre brings on bustas album, we'll see if his goin in a dope direction or not, peace!
