Mine is Quik 100%, Dre is 4th or 5th on my list. He dosent surprise me anymore....

DJ Quik is more..... musically gifted and more in touch with it
I listen to his shit and it blows me away, nobody else sounds like Quik, and if they did, we all know they copied him
Dr. Dre is very good though, no doubt one of the best, and probably better than Quik when it comes to gangster beats
but Quik is definitely more musically talented in the way he's done his tracks over his career
don't get me wrong though, I'm not sayn one's better than the other at production, ya can't do that, they both are different and unique and both originators

These threads will never end until Quik gets at least 70% of the respect Dre gets. You don't see too many Timbo vs Neptunes threads on other boards because they both get equal or similar respect.
Overall, it depends how you see it.
For Dre:
Dre has undoubtedly produced more classic songs commercially, and has had the most commercial success
Quik's early style was influenced by Dre
Dre has set the tone for what people consider "west coast" beats to sound like, over and over again
Quik says Dre's the best producer in rap
Dre's the main reason for the success of many acts in Hip Hop
His current sound appeals more to all coasts than Quik's
Has had better selection in choosing artists to rap on his tracks
Everytime he changes his style, he succeeds...he's had 3, possibly four distinct styles
For Quik:
Much more musically advanced, and can appeal to adults who don't usually like Rap
Hasn't had as much speculation as Dre for having ghost producers and all, he just has musicians playin for him
More versatile, and could produce an entire soulful R&B or even Jazz album and make it compete with the best of them without soundin forced
Much more talented as far as playing different instruments
No imitation can come close to his style...when people imitate Dre, many of them succeed, but this isn't the case with Quik, because it seems as if his formula only works for him
Beats are much more complex than Dre's, even on his simple tracks.
Usually puts out much more music than Dre, and has done more albums than Dre with two of them competing with Dre's best two, and the others still being great albums.
Soo.........with that, it depends which ones of those points you'd consider more important. Personally, I like Quik much more as a producer and would rather be his understudy than Dre's. But Dre has definitely made the best overall songs and albums, and has defined the sound of west coast rap, and rap in general much more than Quik has.

Funny you said that. Most of my friends are older than me and aren't into hip hop but they love DJ Quik, especially Rthymalism and Balance and Options.

Yea...if you didn't get what I said, I was sayin that people know that DJ Quik has musicians such as Robert Bacon who play some of his instruments, but at the same time, Quik plays some of the instruments himself as well. Nobody's ever speculated that Quik had somebody else producin his tracks and he got credit for it, as they do with Dre. Having people play for you isn't ghost producing at all.
