Title: Chronic and doggystyle leftovers...on warren G album
Post by: Denial! Is Actively Joinin The Revolution on August 22, 2005, 09:26:06 AM
i woz jus listenin to Regulate the G Funk era and i noticed that the last two songs sounded like tracks unreleased by dre and snoop

And Ya Don't Stop     --------- Rat tat tat OG
Runnin' Wit No Brakes --------- Next Episode OG

It got me thinkin maybe these songs were not on the final versions of chronic and doggystyle because mayb warren produced them but suge didnt wanna give him credit due to him not signin to death row so he stopped them bein released! so then warren took the beast and did his own thing wit them

Also i heard regulate woz originally a nate Dogg Track so imn wonder how more tracks r similar from those three albums...

i think it has and if i remember correctly this was discussed in another thread a couple of days ago when someone asked why the Next Epidosde didnīt make the final cut was coz the sampled wasnīt cleared in time and that Dre didnīt wanna use the same sample that some other well known producer had used.

i think some of the beats on g funk era are ghost-produced by Dre....Do You See comes to mind...that shit sounds straight off the chronic...seeing how warren is family to dre...record politics probally kept dres name from appearing in the credits....come on guys...do u really think dre would do nothing for his lil half brothers first album...especially at that time....

Runnin wit no brakes samples "Go on and Cry" by Les McCann, and And Ya Don't Stop samples "Janitzio" by Don Julian.

^I'm sure Warren G had done Rat-Tat-Tat-Tat first but Dre ended up using it...I think "Next Episode" & "Runnin" were just a coincidence...& "Ain't No Fun" sounds more Warren G-like so maybe he had done those tracks but they ended up with Dre for some reason..."Do You See" & "Let Me Ride" sound alike at tha beginning but that's all tha similarities I see between those...

Exactly. Many people said that Warren actually produced "Ain't no fun". Here's how I see it...when you listen close to most Warren G and Dre beats from back then, you'll notice that they sound a bit similar but are actually a lot different.

Dre would usually sample 70s music or early 80s funk...Warren would usually sample 80s music that might not have even been funk.
Example - Dre Day (Knee deep, also similar to Jamaica Funk), Whats my name (similar to Jamaica Funk, Knee Deep and Atomic Dog), Nothin but a G thang (I wanna do somethin freaky to you), The Roach outro (wants to get funked up)....Warren G - Regulate (Michael McDonald I keep forgettin), This DJ (Midnight star curious), Do you see (Juicy Fruit)

Dre's beats had a much darker sound, compared to how Warrens were a lot more laid back. Dre's high pitched synthesizers usually had a grimier feel to them, but Warrens sounded more like a whistle. This is very evident from comparin Nothin but a G thang, Dre Day, Let me ride, Murder was the case, Gin n Juice...to Warren's Regulate, Do you see, This DJ, Twinz Eastside LB, So many ways.

With that....doesn't that make Ain't no fun seem much more like a Warren G beat than it does a Dr. Dre beat? I am pretty sure that Dr. Dre could have done beats that sound just like Warrens, but I feel that Ain't no fun was much more of Warren's style and vibe.

^Exactly...good point about tha type of samples...I couldn't see Dre sampling Commodores' "Sweet Love" for "You Never Know" like Warren G did...

Well, as for Te G'z and Hustlas/Lie to kick it beat, isn't it amazing how much better Dre flipped that compared to Warren?  213 actually had a song over that beat, its on the intro to the Kam song Every SIngle Weekend, you can hear Snoop ripping that shit.

As for Do You See, too smooth for Dre.  As for Ain't No FUn, i can see Warren had some input, but still a Dre track.  The Rat-tat-tat original and Next Episode, its really hard to say.  SOmeone needs to interview Warren and ask exactly how that all went down.  WHo did those tracks first, why didn't they make the album, did Dre give him those tracks or were they his?

I read an interview ages back in which dre said he was amazed how well Regulate did (sales wise) and also how good the album itself turned out and he stated "he wish he'd been involved, but the DR situation didnt allow that to go down"

ill have to try to find out where i read that....would appear from that he had little actual input to the album but im 100% sure warren picked up sample ideas and tips hanging round the DR offices while the others worked in there

There's a book coming out next year (and possible DVD) that goes into detail about who produced what, samples used, credits, etc., concerning Efil4zaggin, The Chronic, and Doggystyle.

I'm sure Dre/Daz/Warren prolly produced Chronic/Doggystyle and Dre/Warren on Regulate (album).  but since Dre was and still is the biggest producer in rap at the time, they prolly woulda thought it woulda fucked wit' da sales since Daz/Warren were really uknown at tha time.  And most likely since some songs are so similar (released + unreleased) is prolly bcuz they all (Dre/DPG/Rage/etc.) rapped over the same beats and whichever 1 came out tha hardest is tha 1 that got released.  And maybe a few sample clearences, but prolly not that many (who wouldn't want tha money).  anyways to make a long story short, most likely all of them (DR/Warren) prolly helped all of each other out and whoever rocked they shit tha hardest got put out, think about it even Rage waz about to drop and album in 93'/94' even Dre/Cube in 94'. and oh yeah, Dre prolly produced alot of unreleased shit but never put it out bcuz it wassent up there wit' songs of The Chronic and Doggystyle, thats alot of ground to cover when u gotta come out wit' shit equal or harder than that, and personally i dont think Dre could of did it, even though he stayed in tha studio all day.  I can tell just by lissenin 2 his shit since he dropped tha Aftermath album.
