I was driving to work this morning and they played "Black Superman" on XM radio. Then I reminisced on where I was the first time I heard this song and how everyone I know was feeling this song. I think I was in either Norwalk or Whittier, I was kickin it with one of my homies and a bunch of people I had never met before. I was at someone's kickback and they played "Black Superman" on power 106, during a late night mix show. It had to be around midnight, maybe later. I heard that funky worm shit and I was like "oh shit". I started listening to the words and I was like :o :o :o. I bought the cassette single at the Warehouse the next day. Word of this joint spread to everyone I know and that was all people talked about or wanted to hear for months. I had to handcuff my copy of that single because someone would definitely jack it the way they did my Doggystyle tape and Southernplayalisticcadillacmusic tape. Everytime someone got in my ride they would be like "hey you got that black superman". Man that shit was fuckin huge. That song, it's description of the struggle just hit people on a deep level, even accross racial boundaries.

Tite idea for a thread, too bad my story isn't too interesting. I heard the song for the first time probably like 2-3 years ago while sitting on the computer at my house. Its definitely a classic though.

Heard it on Mark Tonderai's BBC Radio 1 rap show when the album dropped in 94... same night they played Menajahtwa's 'La La La' or whatever it was called. Taped both tunes and played the shit out of them til I ordered the two albums on cassette the next weekend... just wish I'd picked them up on CD when they were easy to find :( ;)
