The reason why labels put out commercial music like Bow Wow, B2K, is bcuz it'll sell more than a DJ Quik album. Why, bcuz a DJ Quik or a Spice 1 album will most likely get downloaded b4 a Chris Brown album. Artist have no choice but 2 put out commercial/pop songs bcuz there's sooo many people downloadin' music. we the fans are the reason 4 tha state of music, not Pac and Biggies deaths. Yeah, i know there's always been bootleggin', but a not every 10 year old pakistanian kid can't go 2 a local swap meet and go cop a Kool G Rap album and a 12 year old girl can't walk 2 a local corner store and go get a KAM cd. yeah, i download but hey if u really wanna hear G Shit/Underground artists get mainstream or your favorite artist 2 go Diamond, stop downloadin.
PS: i'm not a RIAA rep, just a consumer and a bootlegger.
-
it's cuz there are too many morons who don't really care deeply about music that are buying it, they think it's cool to have that garbage, they're just manipulated
-
I'm sick of buying CDs. Why get in my car to drive to the store and give them money for a CD when I can just get it from my bedroom for free? I barely listen to CDs anymore either, my mp3 player get used 90% of the time.
-
there are more cd's sold EVERY year. Don't believe the hype
-
Out of all the genres, rap/hip hop sells more CDs than most of the others combined.
But I don't buy CDs because the artists seem to have problems making good music nowadays. If half of the CD is trash, I don't buy it. I won't support an artist that makes shit, then takes my money and does it again because they think that's what people want to hear.

rap cd sales are the highest of all genres, but thats because non musical people are more likely to enjoy it then they would a portishead record, it gets u to shake ur ass and party. Plus in times of war and other big problems, they try and press mindless party songs to take peoples minds off the struggle. I'm sure once the war comes to an end, the dumb shit will subside and rappers can go back to talking about better edgier things. or thats all we can hope for.

Country is just as high as hip hop in terms of sales. I think they were neck and neck last year.

i got nuthin to say bout de topic; i noticed tho u said "pakistanian" kid
the term is "pakistani" man lol

labels want to make money.. they cater to the masses, aslong as people keep buyin all that TI, Lil Jon shit or whatever, they're gonna keep makin it
at the same time, im not gonna spend $30 on a CD if it only has 2-3 good songs on it, i'll download that and diss buyin the cd
-
now dont take this as dissin' but, wat ya'll said about only 2-3 songs and tha rest is trash, duh, but u gotta think, who would wanna buy a CD wit' nothin' but gangsta/weed/killa songs like back in the 90's and only have like 1 or 2 "mainstream" songs. downloading is so eazy 2 do these days, EVERYONE can do it. so why would kids and "malibus most wanted" wanna hear a CD wit' alot of songs like "jealous got me strapped" and some early Ice Cube shit, not gonna happen, why u think radios only play all artist newest shit than rather some earlier shit off albums from 93' like song Black Moon shit or somethin', instead u only hear tha "Today Was A Good Day"s or the "Nothin' But A G Thang"s. i could go all day about dis shyt but why, i've been on this board 4 about 4 years now and all i c is tha same arguements, hating, and topics (in a new form). ya'll still only dwell in 93' and not tha new shit. Could u actually imagined if Snoop dropped "Doggystyle" this day and age, he'd be boo'd off tha stage. i rarely post. but this ain't about me personal thoughts about tha board, just "US" tha downloaders. look back at wat everybody on every board post when a new song or album drops.

dwell on shit from '93? wtf? maybe its just me, but i dont wanna hear an album full of 20 tracks and 8 skits, with every song talkin about a girl shakin her ass, some wannabe thug bein up in a club or reppin about what gang he's in.. thats all rap music seems to be about lately, which is why i'll easily go for downloading 2 or 3 tracks from a CD and seein the artist at a show, than buyin their trash cd
labels cater for a certain market, and that market right now doesn't include most of the people downloadin the music

It's not even about that. I buy the records I like. I bought that Sly Boogy mixtape because every single track was great. I'm going out some time this week to buy that DJ Quik because every single track is great. I could go on and on. The reason why I'm such a big advocate of downloading is because I blindly went out and bought CDs like Nas's Nastradamus and Lox's We Are The Streets, and they were so terrible, I didn't even want to use them as coasters for my drinks. I encourage everyone to go out and buy the CDs they like. Those artists that make the good music would go away otherwise. But when artists put out bullshit, I'll gladly bootleg the hell out of it and I won't even think twice about it.

download is a sindrome, trust me, because i suffer because of it, but seriously man, even if i want to buy an album i have to order it (in Romania you don't find some dope rap albums at the corner store) and that will mean probably 30-40$/album..and i work for 100$/month and i have to take care of my fam too so...i know download it's not a good thing, but think about it, many of us don't afford to buy albums, and those who can, buy only crap :'( it's just the way it goes...but, download has its good part after you download the albums that you want to listen, you can say if it worths bought..and depending on your opinion, even if you have money or not, you'll take your ass to the store to buy it
Me...now i'm saving money to buy Revolutionary Vol 1-2, Beautiful Struggle, and Rebirth of a Nation (i can't wait for it...although the advance is on internet) ..because i really think that are some albums that really worth bought.
That's how it goes for me...

There are 2 factors for me :
1) First unless you are rich, it's impossible to buy 25 albums a month
2) I'm not gonna buy a trash album. Nowadays at least 90% of the albums released have between 5-8 fillers (even more). The rap game is more and more wack since the 21st century and even more 2-3 years. Plus for me rap has taken a more important role in music these days. Back in the beginning, some people were complainin about hip hop not to be recognized... Don't get me wrong it's good to see some people have success but now it's way too much. Rap is like pop, everyone can release an album, skills are not a factor, it's all about club records, beefs and history- past of the (wannabe) mc. That's why people who got talent or the OG don't believe in rap no more. They don't want take the usual way and since nobody (in term of sales) cares about real hip hop , they give up or do another thing. To finish, stop with this Pac and Big argument, it's just stupid and have a very narrow view of hip hop history

I only buy artists I like to show some support
