Title: Happy Ramaddan (Mubarak) to the Muslims at the Forum
Post by: TraceOneInfinite Flat Earther 96' on October 04, 2005, 11:30:35 PM
May Allah allow us to derive the full benefit from the month of Ramaddan.  Fasting has enormous benefits for our mind, body, and soul.  Ramaddan is a monumental oppurtunity for us to gain forgiveness from Allah the most merciful redeemer.  Fasting is a training, getting used to discipline, obedience, patience, and sincearity.  The fasting person feels his equality with all his fasting brethren, he fasts with them and breaks fast with them, he experiences the general Islamic unity, and he experiences hunger which should make him sympathize with those who are hungry and needy.  Fasting also gives our digestive organs a rest and rids the body of accumulated wastes.

Fasting is not just abstaining from food and drink during the day-light hours, but it is also our eyes, ears, and mouths that are refraining from evil behaivor.  The Prophet (saws) taught us something to the effect of, "If one of you is fasting, he should not use obscenity that day nor shout; and if someone speaks abusively or wants to quarrel, he should say; "I am fasting."

Allah says something in Al-Qu'ran to the effect of 2:183-

"Oh you who believe, fasting is perscribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you that you may achieve taqwa (self-restraint, piety, consciousness).

and also Allah teaches us the fasting person has two moments of happiness: One moment when he ends his fasting for the day and the other when he meets his Lord.  And the smell which issues from the breath of a fasting person is more pleasant to Allah than the smell of cologne/perfume.

man it's not like they go an entire months without eating , hell the "2iftar" (or iftar) lasts from 5.30 in the afternoon till 5 in the morning (feel free to correct me).

It's different depending on where you live, we follow the lunar calender, we start fasting before the sun rises and finish our fast at the setting of the sun.  Where I live it's from around 6:00am to about 7:00pm, so that's over a 12 hour fast.  If you fast for 12 hours a day for 30 days, then compiled together that's 15 days without eating.
