I think that Deathrow has got to be the biggest and best label that rap has ever seen. It's as simple as this: it had the two greatest rappers of all time at their prime- Snoop Dogg and 2pac, and it also had the greatest producer of all time at his prime which is Dr. Dre. Now IMO no other label can ever come close to to what deathrow did during it's reign as raps top dogg so imma have to say they were the best of all time. What do y'all think?
-
Deathrow 4 sure. They had snoop, dre, tupac, daz, kurupt, RBX, lady of rage and more rappers. All in their prime. They were all making dope albums. They were running the rap game at this time.
-
man Death Row no doubt, they were amazing, from 92 to 96, man....fuck all the behind the scenes shit, the MUSIC was amazing, and thats what matters...for the most part, lol, cause i mean, death row being violent and some people not gettin paid or somethin wasnt part of the music. so from what we saw and heard, i gotta say Death Row really was untouchable, but every empire, every dynasty, every big piece of hot shit like that has to fall someday, so who cares if their not great today, how great they were back then makes up for it....LOL @ my post

i don't think death row was a greatest label at all...
the best would be like def jam or some , death row only had the artist, suge wasn't and ain't no business man, look back in the days , he could have been bigger than this but this fool was just throwing money left and right and shit. dawm
-
all-time it is def jam, they been doin this 4 20 years, but no other lable saw tha sucess death row saw from 92-96
-
Death Row, NO DOUBT!!!!!They ran the rap game from 92to 96!!!! They had the two greatest rappers of all time in Pac and Snoop, and the best producer of all time in Dre, and they had tha best group of all time in Tha Dogg Pound!!! They also made tha charms with their record label logo on it big and know almost every rap label has their logo on a charm!!! Every1 wanted a death row charm!!!
-
Probably Death Row...but if Eazy had still been alive and everybody stayed on Ruthless just imagine...
Eazy E
Bone Thugs N Harmony
Kokane
Above the Law
BG Knocc Out & Dresta
Shaki
MC Ren
NWA reunion???
-
you got to be on crack to say anything BUT Def Jam
Def Jam no doubt
DR only lastest for 4 years
that's like saying Gun's and Roses is greater than Aerosmith...

I totally agree... saying DR was better than Def Jam is like saying Nelly is a better MC than Eminem...
-
so then by big jakes theory... no way could biggie be the best rapper since mad other rappers lasted longer...
i guess that means scarface, snoop, too short, king t, will smith, nas, jay z are all better since they lasted longer
i dont think biggie is the best btw or even care that much for him but u get the pt
-
i know def jam is huge but there is no way that they were ever as good as deathrow was when they were at there prime no way!!!! Deathrow had the best label at that time and of all time so far while they were around......its too bad what money does and violence does to people.......just imagine if they were still around with all there artist
-

death row

Why should Def Jam be tha better record label since they have been around longer?? Its not about quanity is about quality!! And who has put out tha better quality off music?? Just look at what Death Row was all bout, like i said they had the greatest producer ever in Dr. Dre, the 2 greatest rappers ever in Snoop and Pac, and the best rap group ever in Tha Dogg Pound!! Def Jam is a tight label no doubt, but they no way compare to what Death Row brought to tha rap game!!!!
-
Death Row in that era, where ALL THE GANGSTA classic shit came out,
of course def jam is on the list
so is ruthless
all comapneis came out with classic stuff
but death row is what got me, 2pac, dre, snoop, DOC, rage, DPG, nate dogg
everything, most of my fav rap artists were on the OG Death Row
-
the best all time is DEF JAM
the best WAS deathrow
-
Best record label is Def Jam. Back in the days, they had LL Cool J hungry and Rockin' Bells, Slick Rick Tellin' Storys, Public Enemy making a Terriordome out of rap, Beastie Boy making college frat house drink Brass Monkey, Rick Ruben producing, and everything. Later came Warren G Regulating, Onyx Slaming, then later DMX Ruff Ryding, Ja Rule Hollering and Jay-Z fucking up the game with his Blueprint on how to make a classic. (I'm no fan of Jigga, but Blueprint was a classic) You never know when Def Jam went from LL, to PE, to G Dub, to Onyx, to DMX, to Jay-Z. Def Jam has always stayed consident. Death Row was hot for awhile, and blazed the game and changing it in it's 4 short years, 92-96, but Def Jam has always out lasted. But Russell has sold it, and were will Def Jam be in the future. Who knows, but Death Row is coming back.
As for Ruthless, If Cube & Dre never left, everything but 2Pac would have been Ruthless. But Ruthless had no busness savey in terms of artist. Imagion NWA and Tha Dogg Pound, and Bone Thugs, and Rage, and Above the Law, all under the same label, shit, that would be too fuckin good. And Eazy would have signed Warren G, and G-Funk on Ruthless, with more Dre style beats, and Cold187um a.k.a. Big Hutch, and Yella, it'd be the shit. Ruthless might have been better that Def Jam. But either way, we can only wish for a Eazy E track featuring Cube, Snoop, Kurupt and a raw Bizzy Bone with Nate on the hook.

^^ good points^^
you only for got about true pioneers EPMD who also were on DEF JAM, aswell as Method Man and Redman, Foxy Brown, and new member Noreaga.

the DEF JAM roster looks more impressive to me, theyve been puttin out material since like the 1980's. while death row was realy only a 4 year stint that crumbled hard.

Death Row Records In The Mid 90s

I knew I forgot some, but that's to be expected with their roster. It's too huge, I tried to get the main ones, chart sellers.
