I am sick of people badmouthing Kokane. Most of you idiots probably just started listening to rap music 2 years ago, because Kokane is a westcoast legend who has been putting it down for over 10 years. Have you guys even heard an Above the Law album, or "Dont Bite The Phunk" and other Kokane albums? Everything he does is tight, and if you can't reconize that fact then you dont know music. Just stick to listening to Ja-Rule.

KoKane did not sing the hook on "On The Boulevard"... I could go check who did so right now, but I'm too lazy to leave my chair and go get the booklet.. anyway KoKane's dopest hook for me was on the Snoop track"Hennesey N' Buddah".

Mamie Gunn sung On the Boulevard - same guy who sung Blow my Buzz on Devils Night (and the Wash)

It's pretty easy to tell it's not Kokane if you listen closely.

Oh yes... I always thought Kon Artis was singing the hook on "Blow My Buzz", but I'm obviously wrong.

When "On the BLVD" first came out, people were debating weather it was Kokane on the hook or now, since he wasn't credited...I remember making a topic asking if people thought it was Kokane (as I was 50/50) and EVERYONE said it was Kokane..At first I really had doubts, but than I started beliving it was Kokane, now that two people say its not Kokane, I dont know what to think...The credits never credited him, but instead credited Mami Gunn as additional Vocals...People thought that Kokane was uncredited by mistake, and Mamie Gunn did back up vocals for Kokane. It sounded a lot like Kokane, but a little different...I really dont know, at first I had my doubts, than I belived it was Kokane, now Im having my doubts again...What do yall think?

It's definitely not Kokane.

The voice lacks Kokane's bass, instead it's a more basic sore throat type of voice

Also, if Kokane was on The Wash soundtrack, why wouldn't they credit him to promote his album?

Snoop always credits Kokane, even for the smallest things (check Kurupt's Space Boogie and Bring Back that G shit)

His publishing isn't there - he got publishing for small appearances like Wrong Idea and this is a far bigger part

Dre credited him on 2001 on La Niggaz for a smaller part

It's not him, I'm 110% sure

I don't know man...I still think it's Kokane on "On the boulevard".....a lot of the time Kokane DOES NOT GET CREDIT for appearring on a song.  I know the linear notes list someone different, but like I said, sometimes he just doesn't get credit....

Name one song he's done with Snoop and his crew which he doesn't have at least an additional vocals credit in the CD liner - Name one

You can't

It's not Kokane

Faces of death w/Spice 1
Ready 2 bang - w/Bad Azz
Clinic 2000 w/Above the Law
Killaz in the park - w/Above the Law
Prelude on Niggaz4life - w/N.W.A.
Neighborhood sniper - w/Eazy-E
Land of Oz - w/Snoop Dogg from the Oz Soundtrack

.....you mean that isn't Kokane on ANY of these songs?  Check the linear notes...I don't see his name or publishing.

Wahey!

First of all I said name one song he's done with "Snoop and his crew"

So that leaves you with:

Ready 2 bang - w/Bad Azz
Land of Oz - w/Snoop Dogg from the Oz Soundtrack

Ready 2 Bang does not have Kokane on the chorus - that is Snoop on the chorus "If a buster ran up on you Bad Azz tell me what would you do" - you mean that chorus right? That's Snoop - Kokane's not on the song

I don't own the Oz Soundtrack so I can't tell you - what I can tell you is that in the issue of the Source with Ja Rule on the front (about a year back) there is an advert for the soundtrack which includes the names Snoop Dogg and Kokane.  But like I say I don't own that album.

So I think my point has been proven wouldn't you say?

Title: Re: Kokane's best hooks
Post by: That_Cracka_J on April 18, 2002, 01:19:12 PM
No, your point is not proven....I added those other song titles in there to further illustrate that he is omitted from getting credit on songs.  What, that can't happen on a Dogghouse song???  "Land of Oz" definitely does not list Kokane OR his publishing in the linear notes...all you asked for was to name ONE song, there it is.  Plus on "Ready 2 bang" I know that's Snoop, but Kokane is in the background if you listen close--after Snoop says "dogghouse gangsta gang" Kokane says "I want it" or something like that.  He is in the background chorus.

All I remember is when the song came out, I made a long topic on the issue of weather the people think if it was Kokane or not, and everybody said they were SURE of it being Kokane...I was 50/50 on it, because when you listen close, he does sound kinda different...sorta sings with more aggresion, but everyone was saying it was Kokane, and it did on the other hand sound A LOT like Kokane...Now Im back to being not so sure, so if you want, bring my old topic back up, and we can discuss it again...

Cracka J:  I listened to Ready 2 Bang again and he IS definitely on it.  However I looked in the liner notes and J.Stamps' name is is there

HOWEVER

I listened to On the Boulevard again and I've started to think maybe it is Kokane

I don't know...I'm like 98% sure it's Kokane on "On the blvd".  I have a SLIGHT doubt, but I'm pretty sure it's him.
