A big step backwards for Warren G... actually promotion wouldn't have affected album sales figures much... why can't you simple minded people realize that Warren G is not as interesting/popular today as he was back in 1994 ?
Damn... :-/
-
His album was out few months ago, after that.....few concerts
around the u.s.(3 or 4 i think)and then?N-O-T-H-I-N-G-
Warren g has been fucked from the third label (def jam, restless and now Universal).
After that,i hope he goes indipendent!!!

Fuck That - And Dont Call Me Simple/Single Minded (Whichever You Implied)
You Know Why Warren Aint As Popular As In '94 For Exactly That, Promotion. Hes Been Fucked Over Time After Time And I Feel Sorry For Him, ROTR Was Sellin 15,000 A Week (After 1st Week) And To Be Fair For The Standard Of Album Thats Weak
I Cant Speak On US Promotion But In The UK :
When It Dropped In The US My Independent Store Had It Imported (£17.99) A Week Later A Few Other Places Got It Imported (HMV & MVC - MVC Being The Cheapest - £15)
I Have Just This Week Seen The 1st Poster In HMV For Warren And A 'Flat' In The Window For 'Lookin At You' - How Fuckin Late Is That?!
Warren COULD Still Push Major Units - Ive Played People ROTR In The Car And People Like It - The Problem Is They Are Chart Buying People - If He Was Promoted And Broke Onto A TV Station (I Am Talkin UK Here) And Have A Decently Selling Single - Like 'Lookin At You' Should Have Been - He WOULD Sell To Those People
Sales Have A Knock On Effect To More Sales

i just wish DRE signed Warren to "aftermath"...

Pointless? - Ahh Yea, Like 1700 Of Your Posts
I Could Have Gone On About US Promotion But Being In A Postition Not To Know How He Was Promoted Over There Wouldve Made It Speculation. So I Used The UK As An Example. Is That Easy To Understand For You?
Now - How Can You Say That The Promotion In The US Is All That Matters? - Thats Ignorance At Its Finest - But Ive Come To Expect Nothing More.
Overseas Sales Account For A Heft Amount Of Alot Of Rap CD's. Europe Has A Huge Market For People Buying Hip-Hop And Theres Money To Be Made - Even Japan Is Mad About Rap - Therefore Warren Gave Them The Bonus Track 'Getaway'
So Next Time Ya Wanna Label My Posts Pointless - Think Twice

Yeah Europe has a big market for rap... my point is, Warren G wouldn't have sold a lot more records if it would have been promoted better... face it... if you're a Warren G fan, you're gonna get the album regardless of how good it's promoted... you can't blame Universal... now... no need to insult me... I said that ONE of your posts was pointless, not all of them.. my posts is far from pointless.. an example is this one.

I Didnt Insult You - I Made An Intelligent Swipe Because Twice In This Thread You Made Swipes At Me :)
So Now Your Not Dissmissing Overseas? - My Point Was And Is That Yes - True Warren Fans THAT KNOW ITS OUT Will Get The Album No Matter What.
Buuuuuut - Many People Had No Idea There Was An Album Coming Out! - How You Ask - Well Just Because We See Things All The Time On Here It Dosent Mean Other Fans (Who Dont Use The Board Or Net) Do. Thats The Sad Thing, Net Promotion Is Fine As Long As Fans Use The Net, But Hell Yes I Can Blame Universal For Not Promoting Him Properly On The Streets And Magazines And TV - Hence The Poor Sales

Yeah I get your point... the news of Warren G's new album would probably have reached out to more people if commercials had flooded TV and "Lookin' At You" had burned up the airwaves... yeah, that fact is undeniable... no more insults... peace

Warren G can never make another Regulate, then he
might as well could make a movie with Tom Cruise
coz it's mission impossible, it ain't gonna happen! He was one of the founders of the g-funk era but in 2002 G-Dub aint
got that much to offer, his solocareer is finished... promoted or not...
-
Take A Look Over Your Shoulder iits a tight album, his second best album.I Want It All was well promoted, and went platinum....
-
Does anyone else see a pattern?
-warren signs to label
-says he has a great deal, artistic control, etc etc
-album sells poorly
-warren blames label, says he has bad deal, no control etc etc
Its been that way since his second album - 3 different labels. LOL not tryna hate on dude, but c'mon, how many times can you blame the label and the deal. Ever hear of learning from mistakes?
Plus Universal is a great label, if you aint selling on there, its your own fault. I think warren's album was promoted as well as most mediocre rap releases are these days. Point is it didnt sell because it wasn't that good.
-
Hi. You know i'm a Warren G fan, so i'll not talk about the quality of his works. But look... Regulate sold almost the same in US and in Europe. Warren G made his best concerts in Europe. "Take a look over your sholder" was made while he was on tour in Europe. And i can go on and on. In Italy it's prattically impossible to find his last album in small/normal cities, i've never seen a Warren G video on MTV Italy, or in other italian music channels, i've never heard a Warren G track on the radio (only 1-2 times, in a rap show, in a radio)... so... ok... i'm a fan and i got the album, but.. 90% of italians who knows Warren G just know him for Regulate. Not cause it was the only good track Warren G made, but cause they played the video a lot here, and it was hot! Same with I Shot the sheriff! So it's all about promotions (if we talk about sales!).
Shit.. they released his first CD Single last month, months after the release of the album (usually they release singles first!!). He got just 1 video. 1 Single (the others are just promos for radio).. Nothing like that! I remember back in the days the single for Regulate went platinum!!
Where's all this shit/promotion?
Then, if we talk about quality... opinions are still like assholes, so.. who cares? I got my review of his last album, u got yours.

Two replies:
1) You obviously dont know shit about Warren's situation. I mean.. he was even having problems to exit from Restless! He made trials and trials, lawyers worked a lot for him... it wasnt exactly a great situation. About Universal... first of all the news is not confirmed yet, second Warren G said in a lot of interviews that he had love for Universal cause they contacted him and they asked him to join the label. And they offered him a lot of support. But he said that he wanted to start a CEO career one day. Maybe he made the money to do it and he wanna try it now. Warren wanted to make a Record Label with Mista Grimm. Maybe it will be a sub-record label of Universal. Dont speculate about rumors. Dont judge till you know the full story.
And he didnt blame nobody, so dont write bullshit. If he isnt satisfacted about Universal.. he got rights to find another label. What's your problem? But... we are talking about rumors, not about FACTS! There are no interviews of Warren G about it, the Universal site still got him listed in the roster and i havent seen this news nowhere. So let's wait for the news to be official and let's wait for a Warren G and Universal interview. Judge when u know facts.
2) Ja Rule sold millions. Is it because of quality? Or because of promotion? Man.. they both important! Even Pac without Death Row sold 1 million. With Death Row and with promotions (of the media, of journals, of the NY Shooting, of the rape case, of Death Row, etc..) sold 10 millions!! You know what i mean? They both importants for sales! Not for quality, but for sales!
-
kvb- i don't know how much you understand about business, but with the proper advertising and right promotion, you could put a piece of shit in a box, label it gold, and sell it to the general public. promotion had EVERYTHING to do with his sales flop. i ain't hatin or nothin those are just facts. peace
-
Personally sales don't mean shit to me, Warren's album is fucking dopeness, one of the best hip-hop LP's to drop last yr imo & it deserved to sell alot more. Some of the people I know that used to love Warren back in the day didn't even know he dropped 'The Return Of The Regulator'.....& i'm pretty sure if it was promoted right & 'Lookin' At You' was pushed this album would of blown up by now. Universal don't deserve Warren & I hope he gets picked up & treated well this time, he's been messed around so much in the past, it's a joke. I hope this situation doesn't put him of making music anymore, because we'll be the ones missing out.
-
Point is it didnt sell because it wasn't that good.
-
Point is it didnt sell because it wasn't that good.
That's not really a valid point though is it, I mean Warren's album was doper than a grip of albums that pushed mad units last yr, for example: Ja Rule. When it comes down to it most of the time sales don't mean shit, they don't represent quality, if they did 'Illmatic' would be on of the greatest selling hip-hop LP's ever released, but was it? no.
-
Ja Rule's album was dope. It had a lot of commercial appeal and catered to a wide audience of people who actually still buy albums, that's why it sold well. I didnt like Ja at all before this album, but he changed my mind. Music & promotion, him and Murder Inc got it locked right now.
Warren is still making music for 1995 imo. Its cool if you like that, but dont complain if nobody else does.
-

The fact that SOME people don't like it is not why i'm 'complaining', it's just ALOT of people never got to hear of it because of lack of promotion & bad marketing. Believe me Warren's album has mass apeal & i'm pretty sure if people actually got to hear about it & copped it they would love it.
Thats what I think anyways.
-
He should sign to Doggystyle. It would be the best when all DPG are back under one label again. I'm pretty sure that their music would be better again... But I'm also sure that this won't happen.
-
damn i dunno what warrens gonna do now man, i mean even though dres his half rbo n shit i cant see him goin onto aftermath, nor dogghouse and i doubt anyone else will wanna take him on after this album failure, even thought i thought it was aiight. i reckon he'll probably go independen or quit.............he'll probably sign wit tha row,lol j

His career is ruined... just like Jayo Felony's.

Man shut up! If you think Warren G's carreer is ruined just cause the sales of his last album aint that good.. then you a fool! What about Nas then? Or Snoop with The Wash OST and with Doggys Angels etc? What about ALL the West Coast releases of 2001? Everybody with a ruined carreer? Shit.
You dont like him or his last album, and it's clear. And i accept it, of course. But stop writing bullshit, and bullshit, and bullshit. Snoop made a lot of bad releases on Doggystyle, but still he's there! Same with Dre (who remembers Dre Presents The Aftermath?). Same with Daz. Same with Nate (who really got his last album OG? lol! I bet just 2-3 of you..). So.. everybody with a ruined career?
Warren G made a good album. Not his best, but.. still a good album (probably the 2nd best of 2001. In the top 10 for sure!). The problem is not of Warren G. The problem is of the West Coast rap and of the record labels who aint spending money on (West Coast non exposed) rappers no more (like they used to do back in the days). That's the reason why we have record labels spending millions to make videos for Ja Rule and a lot of NY wack rappers. Just cause they got the attention of the media, of MTV and of young fans (expecially from Europe).
Warren used to have a GREAT promotion. Let's say the truth! He sold millions because of singles/videos like Regulate and I Shot The Sheriff. And What's Love Got To Do With It. Videos that everybody saw on MTV and everywhere! (the singles went even platinum i think). So it's all about promotions. No more videos played on a regular base on MTV? No more platinum hits! Clear as fuck. This is how it works, man! Simple. Then you can judge a whole album and compare it to his first one, and write that probably the 1st is still his best one. But that's another fact. 99% of the guys who buy rap albums just buy them because of a famous single/video. Warren chosed the wrong video and it didnt even make MTV here in Italy. So what the fuck do u want more from him?
Like u can see... it's all about promotion!
Look at Knoc. He's famous just cause he made a damn video with Dre. And they played it everywhere. And now you all wanna buy his album.
U know what i mean?
PROMOTION.
-
he'll probably sign wit tha row,lol j

Actually DR offered him a contract, back in 1999. Just to let you know. LOL! ;)

Personally i agree with KVB, Warren G is gettin too old for this shit, i know Dre is too, but that different, he a more famouse artists/producer When i saw the video to Lookin At yOu, i jus thought DAAAAAAM warren's gettin old....he jus ain't something that the new catz of hip hop wanna listen to...
Peace

Are you an ageist? Age has nothing to do with it & Warren's still young so I don't know where that 'too old' statement comes from....
-
Are you an ageist? Age has nothing to do with it & Warren's still young so I don't know where that 'too old' statement comes from....
Exactly... Warren isn't that old at all
-
me personally warren g is whack no offense....his ROTR album wasn't what ya'll hyped it up to me....it was an average album so don't try to push it off on universal records, blame it on warren for lack of work
-
i think alot of yall are making some valid points.
if this is true and he did get dropped, its just pure trifling. but i know that both sides are to blame
whoever is responsible for choosing "lookin at you" as a first single made a BAD move because that song dont represent warren g or g funk. its one of dre' left over crap beats
warren g doesnt show very much charisma. we all know he is layed back. but just having laid back music isnt going to cut it. especially without promotion. he is extremely quiet in interviews. he isnt controversial. all these things add up. the talent is there.
as far as universals part,...they didnt promote for shit...im sure the only reason they chose "lookin at you" as the lead single was because it was dre produced. they havnt showed me much.
but one thing yall are forgeting is they dont know how to handle a westcoast artist. since universal is a downsouth label, they dont have to do much for the artist down there, since that market supports anything from their area. but the same cant be said for westcoast artist. maybe its becaus of the fans in the westcoast. since we dont get no radio play fans dont know what poppin in the west
-
i wouldn't like to see dre sign warren to aftermath simply cos dre is only signin new talent...
warren g needs to sign with a label that has all the old true g's like dogg house...but the only problem is snoops dogg house's parent label priority aint too good at promotin the albums neither...which is precisely what warren needs....
and the album aint even gettin promoted in the US, or countries much closer, so whats the point in arguin UK if they can't even push units in his own country? he needs a label that will rep him worldwide at the right times...like death row did with its past artists...but he aint gonna sign wit death row now is he??
-
what ever happened 2 the ghetto village RMX wit snoop and nelly, that prolly woulda helped him get sales
-

coz of nelly mainly yeah...if they released a video and had the remix as the single n shit snoop would help him sell....but these days nelly would more!
-

whered u hear that nelly wouldnt do it?
-
When i saw the video to Lookin At yOu, i jus thought DAAAAAAM warren's gettin old....Peace
This is right. I thought it too. Just compare his tired face with the one of his old videos. He's getting old. He's 30 or 31, he aint young no more. But it's another Warren G...
Btw..
We are still talking about rumors like they true. I mean.. c'mon.. let's wait for some official news. We just heard it from Myrealname (no disrespect, but u didnt quote any official news). I wanna c it officially written somewhere first. And about Ghetto Village, we dont know the full story at all.
Maybe Warren recognized he cant never be the same Warren G that made platinum singles, and videos in the top 3 of MTV & BET, so he realized that it's better to get some G's by going underground, maybe working with Mista Grimm....
Who knows? Give him a chance. He's still the one who put Snoop, Nate, 5 Footaz, Twinz, Reel Tight, Dove Shack etc.. on the map! He can be a CEO. Personally i think he is the only DPGC affiliated who got the skills to be a CEO (with Dre, of course). So it's interesting. Let's wait for other moves. His career is totally in his hands now..
-
Twinz's album was the only decent warren g's production, Reel Tight's album is wack as fuck.
-

U made some good points there. I agree with most of what u said.
-
Twinz's album was the only decent warren g's production, Reel Tight's album is wack as fuck.
I agree. But you forgot he produced tracks for Snoop, for Nate, for Tha Eastsidaz, for Kurupt, for 5 Footaz, for Mista Grimm, for 2Pac, for Shaq, etc..
The Twinz album is pratically perfect! The Reel Tight is just average, but that's because they aint that good. I mean.. it was a R&B album. First time Warren tried with a R&B album. It wasnt good, but blame Reel Tight, man! I mean Jodeci are off the hook even without beats! It's not a rap album, it was more like an experiment. A bad one probably.
I wanna see if Warren produced a whole album (or just a track) to Mary J Blige like Dre did. Well.. one thing is to make experiments with Reel Tight (no diss), one thing is to work with stars..
-
Warren G could go to work in a radio as speaker/dj,cuz i think his music's career is completely died. :-*
-
Now snoop is not the best Ceo in the music industry, i still believe he's lazy in these days....at least he produced music and most important,he put out new talents,he gives opportunities....Warren G no!
-

What the fuck? You wanna win like a kid or you wanna make a serious discussion? New talents? Who? Doggy's Angels? Bad Azz without promoting him? The grandfather Tray Deee? Or recycled artists like Soopafly and Kokane?
Who are those new talents?
-
...E-white,la toya williams and the others :-*
The WACK promotion about bad azz's album was a priority's fault, genio di un antonio!

E-WHITE? Who is him? Right now i'm just read his name in the Source and in the credits of the last Warren G album! LOL! Did he make a song? No. How the fuck you know him? Mistery. You just read about him on journals/sites, man! Sorry to tell you but Snoop didnt launch him at all, lol!
LATOYA??? Actually she appeared in DAZ's R.A.W. album first!!!! So, to me, Daz lanched her!
The others? Who? I repeat: Kokane? (lol! young? lol!). Tray Deee? (lol!).
The only new talents launched by Snoop are Doggy's Angels. And i'll never spend 0,5$ for their album. All those good beats ruined.
-
Plain and simple the promotion was horrible. Like 7O4D said, alot of people who are big Warren fans didn't even know ROTR exsists. The only promotion it ever got was the "Lookin' at You" video primiered on 106 & Park, small radio play and a jumbo sized picture of the album cover on the window of my local Wherehouse.
-
i just wish DRE signed Warren to "aftermath"...
Ive been thinking that for a while myself, it would give dre another top class producer at aftermath which would at least get the albums completed faster!
-
Yeah I found out about Warren G being Dropped from Universal Two Weeks ago.......
the local Radio station here in SEattle had a concert, and Warren G was suppose to perform along side with master P, ja rule and others........My friend is a bodygaurd for one of the radio personalities...and he was told Universal was only Sending Master P to Seattle, and that Warren Is no longer affiliated with Universal and is not allowed to perform at the show at the expense of Universal. Basically if warren wanted to perform, he had to fly his own ass here and pay for everything himself besides what the radio station would pay..........warren declined and he was dropped from the show like a week before it went off.....
i figured he was dropped from the label..not too many artist would pass up a concert which would equal sales in that market.......shit even master P sales jumped locally and radio stations are playin more of his cuts..now.....
but warren is a smart man...he will find a place...or just stick with producin......

Looks like it's official.....this is the end for Warren g's career. :(

Plus Universal is a great label, if you aint selling on there, its your own fault. I think warren's album was promoted as well as most mediocre rap releases are these days. Point is it didnt sell because it wasn't that good.
You had an okay argument until you said Universal is dope... Universal doesnt know how to handle anything that isn't Nelly or Bling'd out. They didn't know how to promote Canibus or Rakim, ditto for Warren. There's a half-dozen solid singles on that album... they picked the worst one by far... the only reason i knew warren was coming out was because i follow him.. he had no promotion whatsoever up here.. i never once saw his video on muchmusic... and they play a decent amount of hip-hop.

True... sad but true.

i wouldn't like to see dre sign warren to aftermath simply cos dre is only signin new talent...
quote]
Only new talent??? then explain why Dre signed Rakim Allah!?
It would be good if he signed Warren to "Tha Math" cuz he´s in the same position as Rakim, nobody cares about them anymore...

It's a little bit different......damn,how you can compare warren g to Rakim???

I dont know about the end of the career of Warren G. But damn.. Nate Dogg made an horrible cd, he didnt sell at all and now? Why nobody is talking about him? Just cause he's rolling with Snoop? It's the same with Bad Azz. Why? Or Kurupt. Why?
Fuck that! It's music. If they'll continue to make dope music.. their career will not finish here.

Warren G cab still be alive if he stop rappin and start producing for Big star.It would also help if he change his style to make his own flavor that no one have. And another possibility would be Being a DoggHouse producer.Or Hook Bacc with his artist : Real Tight ,Phat Bossi and Jessica
if none of this happen Warren G iz dead nuff said!!!

I didnt compare their skills, just their position.
Their both in the same seat u know, they both had great careers and now they are at the bottom. Dre are helping Rah and he should do the same with Warren.
Peace

Warren G should go to THA ROW

Warren G should go to THA ROW
:D
haha mr. G-Funk is too soft for the Badazz thaRow-image.
Seriously, I think he'd be dope as a Aftermath in-house producer, or might as well Dogghouse.
But thaRow is the lable that needs a new producer the most though.
But if he did sign for thaRow, I guess you could say farewell to a 213-reunion.
