The Milwaukee Bucks continued to aggressively reshape their roster Wednesday by beating out a clutch of teams to acquire New Orleans/Oklahoma City center Jamaal Magloire.
Milwaukee will send swingman Desmond Mason, its 2006 first-round pick and cash considerations to the Hornets for Magloire, an East All-Star in 2004.
The Bucks, according to sources, felt they needed a more physical presence on their front line to aid the development of No. 1 overall pick Andrew Bogut and the recently re-signed Dan Gadzuric. Magloire, like Mason, has only this season and next season left on his contract, lessening the immediate demands on Bogut without affecting the 7-footer's standing as a future cornerstone.
Given Milwaukee's logjam of swingmen after retaining Michael Redd, trading for Jiri Welsch and signing Bobby Simmons, a move involving Mason between now and the February deadline was widely seen as inevitable. This one gives the Bucks an opportunity to play Magloire and Bogut -- the Australian from the University of Utah is still expected to start -- together, with Simmons starting at the other forward spot. The Bucks also have Gadzuric and Joe Smith in what suddenly looks like a well-rounded frontcourt rotation.
The Hornets have been shopping Magloire for months as part of their own makeover, which accelerated in February when Baron Davis, another former All-Star, was dealt to Golden State.
Coach Byron Scott denied earlier this week that Magloire was available, but the Hornets - rebuilding around the embryonic backcourt of Chris Paul and J.R. Smith and displaced from its home base in New Orleans for at least a season - opted for the chance to add another 2006 first-rounder to their own and an athletic swingman with ties to the team's new home state.
Mason, entering his sixth season out of Oklahoma State, carries a career scoring average of 12.9 points per game and averaged a career-best 17.2 points last season.
Magloire played only 23 games in 2004-05 because of a fractured ring finger but averaged 13.6 points and 10.3 rebounds in the previous season. The five-year veteran's 19 points in the 2004 All-Star Game led the East.
Memphis, Chicago and the Los Angeles Clippers were among the teams that, needing quality size, hoped to win the race for Magliore, whose departure has also seemed inevitable since he was mentioned in various trade scenarios in conjunction with the June draft. Most of those scenarios involved the Toronto Raptors, who have long coveted the Toronto-born big man.

I honestly believe this trade is good for both teams...Now the Bucks have another big man and an established all-star to help Andrew Bogut develop and maybe even play alongside him. A line-up with Bogut starting at C and Magloire at PF would be great for them...Getting rid of Desmond Mason also cleared up space for Milwaukee. Plus, the acquisations of Bobby Simmons and Jiri Welsch left no spot for another G-F on the Bucks' roster...The Hornets also will improve, because they can now start PJ Brown at center, Chris Andersen or Nacbar at the PF, Desmond Mason at the SF, and have a young, developing back-court of Chris Paul and JR Smith, which could become an elite back-court if both players reach expectations...What do ya'll think about this trade?

In the meantime:
With the start of the NBA regular season just one week away, the Bobcats strengthened their frontcourt with the acquisition of forward Jumaine Jones from the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for a future second round pick on Wednesday, October 26.
Antonio will be pissed.

What does that have to do with the trade? Stay on topic, I made a seperate thread for the Jumain Jones trade...

>:(
I posted that shit before you made that seperate thread >:(
on-topic: pretty even trade, I approve it.

very good deal for the bucks.. horrible deal for the hornets

Didn't you say Magloire is mad overrated and that he's no way an established all-star but he just robbed that convocation to Odom? I'm happy you've changed your opinion again. And again. And again.

You are dumb. An established all-star (if you spoke english you'd know this) means he's made a name for himself as an all-star. That's what he's done, by luckily appearing in one all-star game, as I stated in the past. I think he's a pretty good big man, but no way would I rather have him than Kwame with Kwame's potential. I don't know what you're trying to get at, the only thing you've (word of the day everyone>>) established is that you don't speak the best english...PeACe

I would rather have Mason than Magloire I think Magloire is a little overrated.
-
skill wise i think mason had the edge
but every team needs a good solid big man and thats what magloire brings to every team

Magloire has played his prime years and is nothing but a role player with 1 lucky past all-star appearance (which he stole from Odom).

WTF is your point? LMAO...This is only proof that you don't speak english. Do you know what established all-star means? It doesn't mean I think he's great, all it means is that he's played in an all-star game and is recognized for that...You're a fucking idiot, I still think Magloire is overrated and I still think he's played his prime years, but he's still a good center. So is Chris Wilcox...If you're gunna try talking shit, don't make yourself look unknowledgable while you're at it... :-X

He's born in 1979. He's played his prime years?

Did his stats not drastically descrease after his all-star season? He will never play another all-star game, it's quite obvious, he had his best season before he got injured last year. He's a good center, I'd prefer him over Mihm, but he's no superstar and has no potential to be one either...PeACE

I prefeer him over Mihm too. So why didnt we trade George & Jones (2 expiring contracts we will not renovate) for him?

LMFAO@you considering this as a possibility. Now I KNOW you're insane.

Ok. Let's hope the 2nd round pick we will select next year will be better than Jones and George combined.

We can hope, but it's unlikely...

Ok man. I wanna hope. In the last weeks i've used my mind instead than my heart. My mind was clearly telling me this team was far from being complete. And that our roster was far from being appealing. My mind was still telling me Brown was a bust, who just changed the colour of his jersey. And that Odom was still a soft player with no heart and leadership, even now that he'll play as a point forward. My mind was still telling me Green is just an undrafted pick, and that Profit was a garbage player in Washington. My mind was still telling me Cook and Medvedenko are Euroleague-material, not NBA-material. My mind was still telling me Parker was an undrafted playground player with no real NBA experience at high levels to lead an important team like the Lakers. My mind was still telling me Mihm and Brown cant play together on the floor. But i'll be more positive. I wanna believe my heart, like you do, and not my mind. I wanna believe. Since you look so positive about our roster and about our season, i wanna trust you. From a Laker fan to another Laker fan: i'll be more positive, like you. Let's say for the whole month of November i'll stop bitching about our roster. Let's hope i'll not have to regret it. I'm giving you a chance.

Finally, you see the light. It took long enough. Remember, part of being a fan is retaining an optimistic outlook. You've been looking at all of the negetives in every single scenerio, not once keeping faith or "Laker pride"...That's what got me mad, that's why I had to call you out on your Laker fan status...I don't have doubts that you love the Lakers, but you also have to remember that you represent Laker fans, and when you're keeping a negetive outlook on your team, it doesn't sound or look too good...I'll now leave you alone, but PLEASE refrain from making excessive negetive remarks about our team in the future without a hint of hope...Thanks.
