For me, its because of those shorts. When I was like 8 and I played soccer they shorts were practically short shorts. That pretty much did it for me. :)

seriously...
From the outside looking in it's just because all they're doing is kicking a ball. I know there's a lot of strategy and skill involved in it, but from someone who hasn't grown up watching it, it just looks like some guys kicking a ball. And  I don't really think it's gay... I watched the world cup. I even travelled from San Diego, CA to Minnieapolis, MN just to watch some soccer games (and chill with the family).
So basically is just what your exposed to. US=football Canada=hockey rest of the world=soccer.

I don't think soccer is gay, I just think it's incredibly boring. I know it take a lot of talent and physical endurance for them to do what they do on the field, but when the the game ends and the score is 1-0, it seems like a huge waste of an hour and a half. Plus, in America, parents use soccer as a nice gentle game where everyone gets a chance. Let's say if the score is tied, the parents and coaches encourage the kids to stop trying so everyone feels appreciated. They take the competitive nature out of it.

I even travelled from San Diego, CA to Minnieapolis, MN just to watch some soccer games (and chill with the family).

Where in Minneapolis?

You mean soccer in the US league is boring . Watch European soccer (Spain, English, Italian leagues), it's on another level. It's like watching European B-Ball

No, I'm talking about European soccer. I've sat down and watched it a couple times. I'm saying the moves are cool and I'm sure there is a lot of skill involved, but aside from that, it's a slow moving game. Most of the time the ball doesn't get anywhere near the goal.

Um... it was actually in St. Paul. I just stayed with my family in bloomington (suburb of minnieapolis). I have no idea where the exact location was, since my cousin did all the driving. It was an annual thing they do in a different city every year. The next one planned to be in seattle.

Oh ok. Bloomington is about 5 miles away from where I stay at. I haven't seen anyone talk about Minneapolis here so I had to ask.

one of the main reasons y n.americans dislike soccer is when they fake their injuries or dive to get a call. that pisses me off when i see someone dive or just grab their thigh or some shit in excruciating pain and then when the ref calls the foul they get up like it was nothin.

Soccer is just great. The Leauge i mostly watch is the Mexican Leauge and obviously it is not on the same level as many Euro leauges but its still a competitive leauge.  The game be a 0-0 tie and still be one of the most entertaining games out there.  The enjoyment of the game comes not only from the goals but also : the passes, the well timed slides, the strategy by both teams, the moves, the fact that there is no break for 45Mins.  Its just great.

You don't except the reason of soccer being boring as a reason why people in Canada & America don't like soccer. How about Soccer has some of the stupidest fans ever? They are the dumbest fans in sports simply because of the roiting, throwing flaires at the players, the drunken fights, shooting of players who didn't do too well in a game. It seems like every soccer game you hear about another incident involving the fans which leads me to believe that fans should just get banned watching going to see the games if all they want to do is start roits.

People have gotten on the NFL, NHL, MLB asses in the past because there wasn't enough scroing in their leagues & those leagues did something about it. Soccer has done nothing about it. A lot of sports fans do want to see high scoring games & don't consider 2-1 a high scoring game or a team being up by 3 as the other team won't be able to make the comeback. If soccer finds way to increase the offence, then you'll be seeing more people in Canada & the US taking an interest in soccer.

But if its excitin games ur wantin u dont hav 2 look ne further than the old firm game (Celtic Vs Rangers) there has been like 1 0-0 in the last 5 yeers or sumthin n its always a fantastic game no matter the score.

Yep, cuz the only way there are more goals is to throw away the offsides rule and  if they enlarge the (not sure how you say it in english?) the frame lol.  And that will mean less spectacular but more goals and just boring lol

soccer is the only truly world game.
if americans cant see it for the beauty and skill it is, fine.
there are over 200 other countries in the world that embrace and fully support it

its the same thing here in australia...................we have australian football (which is another sport i love) but people dont accept soccer for a couple of reasons - theres not enough 'action or goals' or people find that it 'moves slow'

like u need it to be 10-9 to be entertaining or interesting??

i think they hate "foot-ball" because its "bor-ing" lol. i catch myself watchin tha World Cup and shit....but i can really understand why people wouldnt like this sport. the only teams that make it exciting are either from South America or Africa. European teams play like robots. They should get the indoor soccer back...at least it had some action. You can spend an hour watchin the ball in regular soccer and never even see an attemted goal. Imagine watching a basketball game, and at halftime there wasnt one shot attempted! Shittt....we'd hate basketball too then.

But if one....ONE....soccer player took a hit like a lot of linebackers deliver on almost every play in American Football, theyd be done....i mean killed. Soccer has gotten ridiculous. I guess no one read what I wrote. The game would be less boring if there were more attempts to score. Hockey sometimes can be the same way as soccer with it ending in a 1-0 game, but there are a lot of shots on goal. There is always those moments where the puck would be inches away from crossing the line, but then the goalie makes an incredible save. And those moments happen often. In soccer, it's a miracle if the goalie has to move more than 5 times. What's the fun in watching guys kick the ball around midfield for the majority of the game?

What Americans hate football/soccer? We don't even give it any attention.

It's the European cats on this forum that get their panties in a bunch whenever an American calls their sport "football" and the other sport "soccer". You guys are so passionate about the sport that you can't understand why people from the US don't care for it and it angers you. I and most Americans respect your love and passion for the sport so show some respect for those of us who choose not to play/follow it.

I have no preference, both sports bore me like bitches with no personality. It's just what I've noticed. We had a huge thread about it before.

I definetly agree wit that its an absolute disgrace the way footballers fall about these days....back in the 70's n 80's it would never happen....its mainy in continental football in portugal, spain n italy tho its becoming terrible in britain 2...but if u think about it rugby is prolly the toughest sport coz u takin the same hits as nfl except u aint got no pads on.....

tug of wars? you talkin about Soccer or Rugby? what tha hell is a tug of war? Put it like this, i dont care for soccer...and a lot of Americans dont either. But i do respect the players athletisism...which a lot of Americans probably do too. You gotta be in unbelievable shape for Soccer. I dont really look at them as gay...or pussies, i just cant get INTO the sport. it isnt interesting to me. i dont think hockey players are pussies or gay...but i cant really get into that sport either. but dont discount American football. Believe me, they wear those pads and shit for a reason. if youve ever worn em, they arent comfortable at all. theyre heavier then you think...and players have died from the heat exhaution. If you could physically play the game of American Football without them...and actually live through a whole season, every player would. But without the pads...i guarentee you on every single play...youd have at LEAST one player carted off the field. And youd have at LEAST one player seriously injured (ie. paralyzed) every week.

Im not discounting american football at all, all Im saying is that Soccer isnt a pussy sport.  The Tug of wars im talking about are just between players  where its two midfielders, a striker and a defender, etc etc.   Different leauges just have different styles though, some do flop more than others

i used to play soccer and there is a lot of contact that ppl just dont see like how ppl say bball is pussy cuz if u touch a guy its a foul but ppl dont really appreciate the amount of contact that goes down especially in the paint
its just that nowadays the diving and fallin around has gotten out of hand to a certain extent and that really deters the american viewers

Yeah I don't see how watching poker could be fun. I don't even like to play it unless I'm under the influence.

But I have played cricket multiple times. One of my friend's from one of those nations where cricket is huge had a club in high school. It wasn't really my thing but it was something to do to avoid homework for a couple hours. At least in cricket the score could be 100-20.

Rugby is a really rough sport but there are no 300+ pound rugby players that could easily paralyze someone if they hit them at full force. Back in the 60s, there were hardly any pads worn at all in the NFL. As the players got bigger, so did the pads. Rugby is like 60s NFL with alot more action.

lol stupid comment. If the toughest rugby player you can find ran a short crossing route across the middle of the field with no pads and got lit up from tha blindside by some 250 pound solid linebacker with a full run at him...he'd be eatin his dinner through a straw for the rest of his life, easily. Rugby is probably big where its played....but how much to those players earn a year? It might be a lot...i dont know. But if it isnt the same earnings as you make in the NFL....and the rugby players were as tough and "skilled" (yeah right lol) as you think...theyd try out for the NFL. We've had a rugby player in the league before....but he was only a punter and played a position where he never got touched. Good for him...

US=football Canada=hockey rest of the world=soccer.

and global=basketball.

FYO: Soccer is the most popular sport in the world.

i think he's saying that basketball is the only sport that seems to be popular around the world, AND in America.

ultra slow pace(though baseball is about the same)
lack of scoring
little if any use of upper body...most popular american sports utilize hands/upper body involvement
too much tapping the ball back and forth...and little ball advancement(vertically) much of the time
americans demand more out of our entertainment
rarely any drama or excitement

i understand sometimes it can be a sort of chess match sometimes...but no one can say soccer is actiuon packed...i've really tried to give soccer a chance and whatch games(some world cup games and some of those euro league games...but god...watching paint dry might be more interesting

americans will never enjoy a sport where there are commonly only 1 - 2 goals per game.  americans like action, and there just isn't enough scoring to make soccer appealing to americans....

For me, its because of those shorts. When I was like 8 and I played soccer they shorts were practically short shorts. That pretty much did it for me. :)

what the fuck... American Football is nothing but time-outs... how often are the ball in play for more than a minute without interruption?

Actually a lot of the time. If you'd watch NFL, College, or CFL football you'd know that

Time outs aren't used until usually the last 2 minutes of the 1st or 2nd half. The TV time outs can be excessive sometimes, but those only last a minute and a half or less. Other than that, unless a penalty is called, the game keeps moving.

And 90 minutes of kicking the ball around midfield the majority of the time isn't "action". The fact that soccer is considered a sport is the only thing seperating it from C-Span (a government channel where state reps address the house on television. It's boring as hell.).

HELL NO! American football dont flow 4 more than a minute coz it stops after evry damn play!..then they gorra all line up again n usually the same shit happens again..only time nfl gets excitin in ma opinion is when an interception takes place...football is moslty non stop...only time it stops is for fouls n substitutions.

The clock only stops on time out, player going out of bonds or incomplete pass. So how does it stop every damn play? The Pittsburgh Steelers basically run the ball all the time, so the clock hardly gets stopped. But the Philadelphia Eagles pass the ball all the time so the clock is bound to stop. The total time of an average NFL game has decreased over the years.

You're telling me that you find passing the ball back & foruth exciting?

the reason american sports are fast paced and more active is

1. they are ad-friendly....you have a commercial every time there's a time-out....they play 2 minutes and rest for three
2. there are virtually two teams....one for offence, one for defence....unlimited subs

atleast football has continuity...when ur running around for 90 mins on a ground that large you cant expect the kind of pace u get in nefl, nba, nhl

peace

Americans hate on soccer for two reasons

1. Either they're ignorant, and just hate on anything different than themselves, or

2. They've seen europeans, defending others hating on soccer, talk about how much greater international Football is than American football, so it's a defensive backlash.

The sad truth of it is, most americans give fuck all whether or not you're playing soccer or whatever you want to do, Americans in general never even think about the rest of the world, we have our own world.  Unlike the european nations where everybody lives pretty close to another country, We don't get movies from overseas, or watch television from overseas, or play sports from overseas, or buy products from overseas, or worry about threats from overseas, or any fucking thing.  If you don't watch the news, you'd never even think about anything outside the U.S. because we've created our own world where if you WANT to be, you can be isolated from the rest of the world.  So what I'm saying is, most people don't hate on soccer, they don't even think about it or give a fuck.  We have lots of kids here who play soccer in school, nobody usually thinks about it as inferior or superior to any other sport, it's just a sport.

P.S., before the children with no mind come on and start talking about how wrong it is to say that blah blah blah, I'm just saying the truth, I'm not passing any judgement on whether or not it's a good thing or a bad thing, i'm just saying what I see, how I see it.

that doesn't sound right for 2 reasons:

1. europeans like a lot of stuff that comes from the states, including rap - americans don't like a lot of stuff that comes from nowadays europe, quite frankly, they dont even know much about it.

2. americans would never question why europeans don't like something american, quite frankly, they don't give a shit why euros think the way they think.

ultimately, americans just dont give a shit about the rest of the world, which is why you can't put a mirror up there.

well I know I don't watch soccer because I don't wanna get up at 4 or 5 in the morning to watch a bunch of euros kick around a ball.

We have a pro team in Vancouer (The Whitecaps), they get around 10 000 people at every game.  I have absolutley no interest in watching it.  I dunno why, just dont wanna.  But I'm a Canadian that hates hockey so what do I know.
