Homie, it's better than the 2nd one, in my opinion. And that's fo sho!
You want a number? It's a good 3.5 mics out of 5 i think. With some very hot tracks. In my opinion it's the best Dogghouse cd ever.
(i give 4-5 mics just to classics or near-classics, and this one aint a near-classic album for me)
-
This album is dope... only one let-down about it, they shouldn't allow badly produced tracks like "Dogghouse" on the album... but personally I loved this... I think it's one of the best west coast albums of all time, in my opinion.
Peace

Personally i think that it doesnt have a common theme in the production. I mean.. it's not a Dr.Dre album. Or a Daz album. Or a Warren G album. Or a DJ Quik album. Too many producers in it, and some beats aint that great. Even Warren G made a beat (even if the track is probably the better produced).
For the next Eastsidaz cd, i prefeer them to chose just 2-3 producers and let them handle all the shit. So you'll recognize the sound, the atmosphere, etc..
But that's just my opinion.

Yeah but look at the production on "Duces N' Trayz"... it's superior compared to the first album. Snoop made a wise move by adding tracks by The Alchemist, Hi-Tek & Swizz Beatz to the album... their talents improved the album severely. Honestly, you wouldn't want an album filled with tired, monotone Battlecat funk... peace.
-
I love this album, i think it's better than the second. I would give it a 3.9 out of 5

Yea, Big Nima Loc,
I see this album as a classic. The lyrics.. and beats all came tight. I was so proud of Snoop for finally putting something out with his own money. And he had an allstar crew of producers which included 4 tracks produced by Meech and a few produced by LT Hutton. LT came soooooo tight. Cant deny. Got Beef is still an amazing track to me.
I just hope that Meech continues to produce for Dogghouse. His one contribution to Duces And Trayz was half hearted at best. "Now Is The Time" wasn't that hot. I think that was what I was missing on their second album. Meech And LT.

Actually i dont really like him at all, lol! He's cool for 1-2 tracks only. Expecially when he makes those boring monotone funk tracks.. maybe with Kokane all over them! Damn!
The very problem of Dogghouse releases is Kokane. I dont like him at all. Back in the days he was cool, but i aint feeling him now. He's boring if he is in half of the tracks. Sometimes at the last seconds of the track, just to ruine it. :(

Word..... "Now We Lay Em Down" was Hott... "Ghetto" had a great sound and feel, "Be Thankful" had a nice message, and "Life Goes On" is probably Snoop's most touching song, it's one of my favorite and most listened to albums.

dont front on battlecat ;) he's off the hook. i agree he indeed has some tracks that are monotone and boring but most of his shit is tight! check out track 16 (ragz n lolos i think) from c-bo's new album. (feat Yukmouth).
and for Kokane. indeed he was on too many tracks in the dogghouse releases but damn sometimes he comes off really tight! i liked on everytrack he was on at this first eastsidaz cd. on last meal there were some cuts where he shouldve been left out.. same with ducez n trays.. i wish on his new album he starts rappin alot again!
any1 who aint feelin Mr. Kane check out this track
Kokane (feat Tray Deee) - Breakout.
this track is off the hook

"Too many producers in it, and some beats aint that great. Even Warren G made a beat (even if the track is probably the better produced)." Antonio you are pathetic when you comes out with posts like that.
Their first album is a 5 mic album in my opinion.

this album is a westcoast classic. when it came out, it was huge breath of fresh air for the westcoast. most of the songs have good subject matter and the beats are on point. eastside up eastsida ;D
-
I would give this album a 3.5 - 4 mics at it's best. It's a dope album & it gets alot of rotation & I know BC gets some stick around here but I funkin' love "G'd Up" that is one funky & dare I say it classic westcoast track. I think this album was a breath or fresh air, it was a nice album full of gems but not quite classic....given time might become one though..

Yeah I love "G'd Up", definitely one of the best Battlecat-produced tracks ever... when comparing this to the mediocre tracks "I Luv It" & "Ass On Your Shoulders", you'll understand why Battlecat can never acheive the "legend" status which Dr. Dre & DJ Premier has... peace

yea , the first eastsidaz is definitly a 4, 5 out of 5
it got the westcoast sound in it which i luv so much. ;D
on the second cd I only liked 3 or 4 songs >:(

Yeah homie, i totally agree with you here. Battlecat is tight as fuck! I was talking about the monotone funk tracks, not about the real tight ones. That's why i wrote i prefeer him to make less tracks but just the best ones, not the monotone ones.
And i agree about Kokane. Back in the days he was really funky. But Snoop used him too much, probably ruining his albums and Kokane's reputation! Dont get me wrong, he's tight sometimes. But inopportune sometimes. Feel me?

oh and kokane wasn't there so much on the first eastsidaz so that ain't the main reason

the first is a classic. But the second aint that bad either. Lot of peeps in here say it sucks and shit. The second album just has a different sound. You cant sleep on tracks like :
i luv it feat.kokane, snoopy collins
eastside ridaz feat. nate dogg
i dont know feat. suga free, supafly
now is the time feat. kokane
cool feat. butch cassidy, nate dogg, kokane
break a bitch till i die
so low feat. lil mo, kokane
I think the song "cool" is a classic. Production hella tite and butch nate and kokane in one song. MAN THAT SHIT IS HOT.

11 Another Day 5 of 5
That's fucking right homie
That song is MAJOR
Butch was unbelievable on this
-
Another thing that makes this album so great is that it was the album which catapulted Butch into the minds of West Coast fans. He'd been laying it down since '96 on odd tracks here and there but he was properly introed on this album
