Top 5 hip-hop producers of all time
This is my list, post yours...
1. (DJ) Premier - Straight up, this awazingly talented east coast producer (born in the South) named Christopher Martin a/k/a DJ Premier is, and have always been the No.1 hip-hop producer. He has blessed the hip-hop nation with beautifully produced jams mainly for his group Gang Starr, and has produced brilliant street anthems for many rap superstars, examples is Jay-Z, Nas, The Notorious B.I.G. & KRS-One. He has remained active as one of the top producers in the industry since '88 up to today and as opposed to trends, he has kept his music hardcore/street since day 1, avoided pop-rap trends, always bringing the REAL shit. He has NEVER made a sellout beat. No other producers has done this, no other producers should be compared to Premier, No.1.
2. Dr. Dre - I gotta give it up for Dre. This entrepeneur has produced so many dope beats that a place in this list is unavoidable. From "Straight Outta Compton" & "The Chronic" to "Dr. Dre 2001" & "The Marshall Mathers LP" he revolutioned the genre with his famous "G-Funk" sound, and has consistently delivered phat, addictive tracks from NWA to Death Row to his situation today with Aftermath, and still going strong at the tender age of 37. What seperates him from Premier is that he tends to make softer, more commercial beats carrying a misplaced pop-feeling, namely "The Real Slim Shady", "Knoc", "Let Me Blow Ya Mind" and so on. Nevertheless, Andre Young is certainly a musical genius, a hip-hop legend who will forever be remembered as long as the genre exists.
3. DJ Muggs (the most underrated producer of all time... check out all the countless amazing beats he made for Cypress Hill... deserves this position, and again, he has never made a wack beat)
4. RZA (the influental producer who got the east-coast back on track in a period when the West was running the game... a genius, even though some people fail to realize it)
5. Kanye West (I know he may be young and inexperienced in the game... but look at all the beautiful music he has produced, he has an amazing ear for good music... his productions leaves a bigger impression on me than Timbaland, Swizz Beatz and The Neptunes put together)
