Squad for Argentina

Player Club Caps Goals
Sol Campbell Arsenal 66 1
Luke Young Charlton Athletic 7 0
Wayne Bridge Chelsea 20 1
Shaun Wright-Phillips Chelsea 7 1
Joe Cole Chelsea 28 4
Frank Lampard Chelsea 37 10
John Terry Chelsea 20 0
Phil Neville Everton 52 0
Peter Crouch Liverpool 3 0
Steven Gerrard Liverpool 38 6
David James Manchester City 33 0
Wayne Rooney Manchester United 27 10
Rio Ferdinand Manchester United 43 1
Alan Smith Manchester United 16 1
Michael Owen Newcastle United 74 33
Robert Green Norwich City 1 0
David Beckham Real Madrid 85 16
Michael Carrick Tottenham Hotspur 4 0
Paul Robinson Tottenham Hotspur 17 0
Jermain Defoe Tottenham Hotspur 15 1
Jermaine Jenas Tottenham Hotspur 14 0
Ledley King Tottenham Hotspur 14 1
Paul Konchesky West Ham United 1 0

how in the name of christ can he call on crouch hes terrible and hasnt scored all season! Spurs have FIVE players in there, they are playing well but thats excessive - sven ONLY went to the bolton match last night to see the spurs players hope to god he opened his eyes and saw how well nolan played - i think although he is not a better player neccesarlily than gerrard or lampard he provides another partnership option cause those 2 have no interlink/working together skills at all....

the worst thing for england is having 2 of the top 10 midfielders in the world (argueably) that cant play together  :-\

Oh man, Bolton was as lucky as it's possible to get.

1. Defoe through 1 on 1, onside, but offside wrongly called, would have been a 100% chance.
2. Defoe through again, scores, but wrongly disallowed for offside.
3. Jenas crazy shot is stopped by Gardner, Mido hits the bar on the rebound.
4. Stalteri failed cross somehow ends up hitting the upper bar.

It was a pain to watch.  :'(

I don't think Nolan is good enough for England, with players like Lampard, Gerrard, Carrick, Jenas, Joe Cole, King, all competing for 2 places in the center, dunno why Smith is in the national team, though he was good against Chelsea, and Wright-Phillips is hardly being used @ Chelsea..
LOL @ Young & Konchesky, England needs a right-back.. and even Heskey would be a better choice than Crouch.  :D

lol yeh i guessed from the notion of you thinking that

"Carrick, Jenas & King" are "all competing for 2 places in the center"

i'd love to see sven say that one  Frank, Steven  step aside   Jermaine and Michael are playing in the centre today  ;D

Yeah, Lampard & Gerrard got it locked for now, but Jenas best position is as attacking midfielder, Carrick best position is holding midfielder, and King was recently used as holding midfielder in the last England game with big success..  Imo, Joe Cole is more of a attacking midfielder than a winger where he's often being used..
Both Lampard & Gerrard is better at attacking, so if Sven wants a defensive anchor on the midfield, it's either King, Carrick, or Smith..

We were so unlucky not to get a point, the Defoe offsides, and our last ten minute flurry deserved at least one goal.

As far as Nolan for England, apart from the goal and the post hit, I didn't really see what else he did in the game apart from hooking aimless balls into the corners which Diouf and Giannakopolis were too lazy to run after, and making a few tackles. I don't get the feeling he totally comfortable with the ball at his feet, and at international level that is vital. Admittably though, he definitely deserves to be in the squad if Hargreaves is constantly in it, cause Hargreaves really is truly useless.

The worst thing is that whatever the situation, Sven always brings him on. If we need a goal he comes on, if we need to keep it tight he comes on, I wouldn't be suprised if one of our goalies got injured that Hargreaves would come on to replace them.

Uh...the offside goal was so close it was a simple linesman snapshot, thats football, end result was we absorbed your pressure, yes we got lucky on occasions but we too hit the upright, had decisions go against us, but it was further proof that teams have to complately alter their style of play against us.

and carrick and jenas are overrated, nolan is worth a chance, im not saying he is better than the other players but i beleive he provides another option...sven needs a solid squad throughout for the WC and testing a few other combinations before wont hurt.

I wouldn't have Nolan is the squad.  Great player but his timing is bad.  If he came into the squad now it would make a shambles of all the friendlies and games that the current squad have played in order to try and cement their place in the team.

Great player, maybe next time.

Yeah, those offside goals, penalty decisions, red card, over/not over the line decisions always seems to go against the team you're rooting for..  :-\

Jenas might not be ready for England yet, but imo Carrick is the best defensive midfielder in England today..
You won't notice it unless you're paying attention to him, he isn't flashy but he's doing the dirty work, always breaking up the opponents attacks, his passes have pinpoint accuracy and great tackles, and he's still improving, players like that are priceless to the team..

As for Nolan, I didn't really notice him, Gardner, Davies & Diouf was the livewires I noticed, Nolan seems to be the type of player that can be quiet the whole game, then pop up out of nowhere to bag a goal or two..

Then tottenham missed out on somebody that marked Ronaldinho out the game not once, not twice but 3 times..... ;D
