Aside from the record company politics, and aside from the west coast artists doin whatever they do to promote themselves...what region do you think will do more within the next year or so to help the west get back into the spotlight, whether it's a conscious effort to help the west back or if it just happened on "accident"?
For the last few years, there have been many collaborations between the west n south, and the west n east. In many cases, these are the only times that the fans from the other regions get to hear west coast music, especially for those who don't live in college towns. Because of these collabs, I think the south, who happens to be on top right now, have done much more to help the west than the east has. Collaborations definitely do a lot for artists on both sides.
Here are the most notable South and West collaborations that I have seen happen in the last few years, whether its producer/rapper or rapper/rapper:
Snoop and Neptunes (if you wanna call em south)
TI and Daz
TI and Quik
Quik and Luda
Lil Jon and Snoop Nate Suga Free
Bun B and Crooked I/Game
E-40 and Lil Jon
Snoop and Lil Jon
Boyz n da hood n Game
Boyz n da hood n Eazy
Young Buck and Game
Murs and 9th (if you call 9th South)
The most notable ones from the east that I can think of at the moment:
Game and 50
Dre and 50
Nas and Game
Jay-Z and Quik
Rick Rock and Jay (5 years back but still notable)
I know I am missin a lot...but I think the south has been hookin up with the west more, and that we need to try to "use" them to get back to the top or somewhere near it.

well rappers from the east are making more money and you see their videos more than the south i think, so they may have more influence nation wide. plus, south music is a cheap imitation of the west, with its 808 drum kits and simple melodies, so the south might keep west artists in business, but the major names from the east are prolly gonna be the ones to blow up westcoast cats if they collaborate more.
-
I'd imagine the South has got more love for the West, as far as bringing back who knows
-
I voted for the South.
Also remember that David Banner track he had on his last album talking about the love he has for the west coast.
-
The south, the east don't really care about anybody but themselves.
-
The South always seems to be showin love to the westcoast...
-
the midwest gives alot of love and respect to the westcoast i went to STL they showed me love cuz im from the west and westcoast did stated this gangsta shit even when we dont get the thanks we get but the midwest shows lots of love to the west fuck eastcoast and the south they come to cali and they get fucked up or jacked ;D they all copyed the westcoast

I mean right now, its gotta be the south. Lil Jon is droppin like all kinds of beats for Cube, Too $hort, and E-40. These are all straight west coast legends. While i'm not a huge Lil Jon fan, at least he is puttin some west coast cats back in the game.

It's up to the west to put itself back on the map but if there is any region that will have a hand in that it would be the south definitely. The east has never had love for the west really.

One thing I would give the east is that they do tend to put west coast artists on their mixtapes, but it's usually not too often, and it's usually the same few.
-
south always shows us love
-
forget both of em...it's cool do to do some collab with south..but damn..we can't just live off depending on others. West gotta come back by starting something new.
-
South
There are more similarities between south and west cats than there are with either and the east. A lot of people on the west have family down south or their family came from the south. I think regionally when it was East & West and not much from the south they identified more with the West. The east basically cares about the east period so if either were to be more help it would be the south.

None of them West Coast music gota build up agian by it self South, east wont help shit all.
-
I mean, there are some select East Coast MC's that show the West Coast a lot of love. Talib Kweli has worked with the likes of Quik, Snoop, Game, DJ Babu, DJ Khalil, and pretty much the whole Strong Arm Steady gang (Ras, Phil, Krondon, Chace and Planet Asia). He also works with Steady Gang frequently on their projects and on his own.
Also, Redman has done several collabo's with the DPG. The track with Daz ''Blaze Up'', the one off of ''Gang Bang Muzik'' with the Eastsidaz, and several Snoop collabo's (eg: ''We Some Dogs'' with Meth, ''Long Beach 2 Brick City'', and the ''Freestyle'' off of WTTC Vol.1)
Fab also collaborated with Snoop, and did a track with Game way back on UKNOWWHATITIS Vol.1.
Some up-and-coming acts from both the East and West Coast seem to be working together also, such as Saigon and Sly Boogy.
Granted though, there are a lot of Southern rappers that seem to show just as much (if not more) love to West Coast acts. Ultimately though, I think it's down to the West Coast to bring itself back.

yeh its their ingorance.. they think even the weakest emcee from from NY can turn a westcoast rapper out.. remember readin a thread other day on boxden where was a thread. DMX v Xzibit and it was a disgusting 78 [dmx] - 24 [xzibit] >:( some of the posts where so inaccurate saying that dmx has way better lyrics then xzibit.. i laughed and tip'd their thoughts bollocks.

Well...bein realistic, in 2005, we definitely need a jump-start, and the west can't do that by itself, especially with no help from the industry. Like I said, the only reason that some of the new west coast artists are known is because of the collabs they do with the south and the east, because they never hear shit that just stays on the west.
-
i voted for the south.

Neither.
Because the truth is the south or the east don't care about the west they just the west to expand their own fanbases.
-
the west is gonna do it on its own like it did it the first time , keep droppin heat they cant deny the west, as for gettin love in the industry definetly the south gives the west more love...too many closet haters on the eastcoast
