I had to install some software that came on dvd. I figured I might as well get a burner instead of just a player. Does anyone know what the best software is to copy dvds? I need to rip the dvd to my hd and then write it.

depends on the dvd..
if its encrypted or not and how much disk space it uses..
there are some good guides on sites like.. http://www.dvdripguides.com/dvdmenu.php

So it's not possible to just rip an .iso or image of it?

it depends on the movie...
normally u cant as the extras etc make the image too big.. OR its encrypted..
u know the dvd's you buy in stores are dual layer 9 gig.. and the dvd+/r disks are only 4.7 gig...
it can be done.. there is info out there.. but its not a simple copy operation

I'll try that MPEG2/SVCD guide. I remember downloading some movies in that format on 2 or 3 cds and the quality was good. But I didnt really need a dvdburner for that then, since it can be put onto normal cds lol, props for the guide.
My dvdr drive can write dual layered dvd's tho, but I think those are expensive to get.
