Nope, it's about being passionate and doing festive things to 'help' others (even if it's just christmas tree lights everybody gets a kick out of), just like Jesus Christ was passionate and helped others.  The guy didn't have to hang any lights up, but he wanted to do it big, and his passion made him make the above for no good reason.
