A few issues with IE....

1) Its slower than FF

2) It downloads spyware all the time without telling you... Once I switched to FF I never had to worry about spyware

3) It doesn't have tabbed browsing

4) It doesn't give you nearly the same control... IE has a clumsy plug-ins system, firefox has a nice extensions system. see them here https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/?application=firefox

the extensions system alone is a huge deal as is tabs

^ mozilla, opera & microsoft are working together to make plugins from one browser compatible in another

IE doesn't download the spyware, its the user authorising it to do so

on another note, anyone have issues with firefox not loading pages when you open up ~20 tabs?

What videos are you trying to see?  I've never had a problem, check this page though you might need to DL the appropriate program.

1.  IE uses a plug-in system to modify its browser.  Firefox has extensions.  One of the main selling points of firefox is that its built to be extensible, users can easy write their own extensions to modify its performance.  This is not the case with IE, there are a few different plug-ins that are usually fairly clumsy and obnoxious, they aren't developed by inidivual users, but by corporations usually.  Mozilla and Microsoft are not making these products compatible cross platform.  They may be working to make stuff like Real Player, Windows Media Player, Quicktime, and Acrobat cross platform plugins, but thats the extent of it.

go here to see all the extensions that are exclusive to Firefox.... these can't be ported over to Microsoft since FF doesn't even develop them, end users do, its up to the users to make these extensions cross platform, but the way IE is developed its too hard for people to even bother.  https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/?application=firefox

2.  IE before SP2 would DL spyware all day without the user even knowing it was going on.  Now I'm not so sure.

3.  Why would you want to open  20 tabs? lol

So is there any solution to the picture problem? Like when there's a lot of large photos on a page, you're not able to view them.

well, i run a 3500 user network all with IE browsers & don't have any issues

why do i open 20 tabs? makes reading forums easier .. so i don't have to look at one topic, hit the back button etc.. just right click -> open in new tab on the topic .. makes it much easier

I'm not really sure what problems you are referring to, I haven't experienced any, but if you want a better solution than switching between IE and FF try this..

IE Tab Extension
https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=1419&application=firefox

Embed Internet Explorer in tabs of Mozilla/Firefox. See the pic for an example...

There is another one called IE View that solves the problem too, but IE Tab seems much cooler...

BTW... another reason why FF is and will continue to be better than IE...

It's now being developed by Google.

Here's a list of other extensions that I personally like..

Google Suggest - Integrates Google Suggest functionality into your firefox search box.  It will auto suggest alternative keywords as you type.
http://toolbar.google.com/firefox/extensions/

Customize Google - One of the best FF extensions.  Lets you totally manipulate google, and makes Google Suggest the default setting for your google searches.  Plus does a bunch of other cool shit.
http://www.customizegoogle.com/

Gmail Delete Button - Adds a delete button to GMail.  Really helpful if you use GMail
https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=882

Go here to see a bunch of other extensions

The picture problem is fixed in version 1.5
Release Candidate 3 is out now, the final version will be out in a few days..

just right click -> open in new tab on the topic .. makes it much easier

Or better yet, click the mousewheel, opens the link in a new tab.  8)

I don't get it.  I use IE and don't know what could be wrong with it.  It's fast, never get spyware, I don't notice any problems with it.

I guess I'll try Firefox and see if I notice a difference.

I don't get it.  I use IE and don't know what could be wrong with it.  It's fast, never get spyware, I don't notice any problems with it.

I guess I'll try Firefox and see if I notice a difference.

You probably won't notice a difference until you start using tabs regularly... with FF you can right click on any link and create a tab, or go to view, toolbars, and drag the add tab icon to your toolbar... another option is to hit ctrl click on a link to open a new tab.

Another huge difference for me is the bookmarks toolbar.  Most web pages assign icons to their links, IE doesn't even notice them, but with FF you can put icons on your top toolbar that quick link you to your favorite webpages.  Right now I can fit 30 links on my toolbar.

A few other cool things to try with FF...

1.  type 'dubcc' into the search bar and FF will send you right to dubcc.com.  type cnn and you go to cnn, nyt and you go to the new york times site.  FF auto queries google and sends you to the top result automatically.  you can change the default search engine to others if you like.

2. you can add your favorite search engines to the FF toolbar, in the top right you'll notice you can search google, if you click on the G you'll see there are other search engines that you can change to, and you can DL more.

3.  Resizing text.  With FF resizing text is much easier.  In IE you can only change text so much, with FF you can make it as big as you like and its done easily too.  If you have a scroll wheel on your mouse, hold down ctrl and scroll up or down.  If not, hit ctrl + or -

4.  Go to tools extensions, and get more extensions for FF.  Especially customize google.

and make sure you DL Firefox 1.5 RC3 that way when FF 1.5 final comes out you'll be automatically updated.
