Man the West Coast just doesn't give a fuck. There is way too much hate out here. The music will never thrive out here because of the hate. The West will never come back. I listen to people, read posts, listen to fools in the record shops, it ridiculous. If someone likes The Game-they hate Lil Eazy and diss him and vice versa. If someone is a 50cent fan they hate The Game. People take rap beefs personally, especially out here. In the East Coast it seems they enjoy a beef and give love to both sides like 50 and Fat Joe, Nas and Jay-Z. People say damn that was a good diss, then go out and buy both albums and respect both artists. Out here it seems people love to hate. The South is unified, they all work together, you can find South artists guest shit on every album down there. I used to be on that tip myself, back in the day when I was younger, I took sides in the Eazy/Dre beef, the Cypress/Westide Connect beef and even the Mc Eiht/DJ Quik beef. I would not only talk shit about the other artist, but not buy the records or support them in any way. Now, Im just like music is music. I love the West Coast and I think this shit needs to unify. Imagine Dre working with legends like Mc Eiht, Spice-1, DJ Quik working with everyone including new upcoming artists. Ice Cube taking time out to hook-up with The Game, Snoop Dogg and The DPG working with other artists making good music. I doubt it will ever happen, but anyway fuck it...West-West, late.

ROTFL!!!!!!!!!!!!
On the real, I kinda do agree -- hot music should be hot music, and its possible to have love for both "sides" of a beef. I kinda view rap beefs like how people watch wrestling, its fake as fuck but its really entertaining to watch. To me, shit like Jay/Nas is a lot of fun, its something interesting to talk about, and its almost like a game on wax. to me the pac/biggie stuff was mainly a big misunderstanding, and was kinda sad the way it played out (even though that was entertaining too).
Sometimes it gets more serious though, like i honestly do not like 50 cent anymore -- he's mean spirited, disrespects the entire culture and clearly has no problem tearing it down for his own personal benefit, has complete control over the media that covers music-related shit, he's not even ill anymore, etc. that's why so many people are yellin gunot, he's disrespecting so many fundamental cultural norms and levels of respect that everybody just wants to see dude go down (like blackballing via business shit instead of keeping it on wax, getting people's albums pushed back and making them lose endorsements, etc.)
lil eazy shit is more just funny because he's wack, its fun to clown him and his crazy/annoying ass fans but honestly i wish the dude success. his fans are more annoying than anything about him himself.
most of the time, beef is just entertaining and a way for artists to show their skills and get more publicity for themselves, and in that context as long as it stays on wax and nobody gets hurt its a lot of fun. i don't think anybody thought that jay and nas were gonna kill each other, and ether did wonders for nas' career and perception as an artist

If the Game wasn't around, the west would be better off. Game hasn't done shit for the westcoast, besides selling 2 million for himself! The dude is busy in a beef he'll never win, when he should be working on his music, and promoting his artists, which won't see albums till 2007. West won't be back until detox hits stores.
-
The only people everyone seems to rally behind is Dre. Everyone else gets half hate and half love.

game got attention brought on a lot of these new west cats, his own people like eastwood and tech, glasses malone and everyone that glasses is planning on bringing into the game (if it weren't for game, glasses probably wouldn't have the deal and label that he's got, period), indirectly brought attention to bishop lamont (dre met bishop at a game video shoot), which has increased the visibility for everyone on bishop's mixtapes, j. wells, etc. if it weren't for game a lot of people would still be listening to the same washed up cats that are never gonna come out, instead there's all this attention on a lot of these guys that a lot of people have never heard of before that really have a chance to shine on their own -- IMO that's a lot better than depending on dre to put out every artist, or snoop sorta pushing the same 3-4 cats that have been around forever.

First of all, everyone in the west knew who eastwood/bishop/tech/glasses were before Game. Second, none of them are mainstream, and none of them are getting attention. You see tech putting out an album? Look at 50, GRODT sold, then 6 months later, Buck and Banks both had plat albums and were daily faces in hiphop. Its been a year for game, and those artists around game are no closer to albums, or closer to selling anything. Game isn't doing shit, or promoting anyone. Hes promoting himself, and thats it.

i just think west rappers needs to put real effort in their music. Not like dpgc. I like daz and kurupt..but it was fast for them putting that lastest album. Too fast. These rappers need to meaningful music. This is just my opinion.

Those artists have only been around Game for a couple of months ::) I know a couple of people at school who never even heard of Eastwood or Techniec, but because they were on the mixtape with Game they now know who they are. And people other than west coast rap fans listen to Game and that gets Eastwood & Techniecs name around.

One thing about the West Coast aside from the beef is that a lot of the fans want to have their cake and eat it too. They want the west to shine and achieve nationwide/worldwide success but at the same time cater to only the left coast. We're not on top right now mainstream-wise I mean in the early/mid 90's we were running things so an artist could make 100% west coast music and it would sell. In 2005, an artist would have to appeal to more than just the west, and need to be promoted to really put West on. If you don't have the label that's going to promote you because you're independent then you have to go out and promote yourself. I know Game was backed by Dre but he didn't sit on his ass either. His album didn't really have any West Coast features or much west coast production but everybody that listened to his album knew where he was from and that in itself has sparked some interest.
As King Bryant said everyone in the West knows Tech, Eastwood, Bishop etc. The problem is these artists need to be known by more than just the West. They have that opportunity now.

I purchase albums from my fav rappers no matter who they beef with. I aint really feeling the really popular rappers anyway, they suck IMO

I think the only problem is how people like to bitch about new records instead of buying them

I think west needs to stop rappin about gangsta stuff. I've been listenin to rap way too long..and it's boring the heck out of me. Would "f you this and f you bitch" gonna appeal the nation? haha..
but anyway..the point is..if any west can't rap besides alcohols, weed, girls, blings and gangsta stuff...I don't think they should rap. The problem with west is they don't know anything else besides gangsta stuff.
Daz and kurupt ain't a thang these days (at least in my opinion). I just wish west be more versatile..
West don't need to bring that "west" again..they need to change. I know there's someone out there who's gonna make that happend..not THE GAME.
-
there is hate everywhere
-
I love the West Coast, but I still have to admit that it needs to be more versatile, as someone else has said. New York and the South both have large alternative scenes in addition to all the gangsta/thug shit coming out. The West Coast? Since "The Chronic" came out, the West has been single-mindedly devoted to nothing but G-Funk gangsta shit, which gets tiring after a while. There are a lot of good alternative acts out West, too (like Hieroglyphics and Ras Kass), but they're dwarfed way too much by the gangstas. I think West Coast rap is also particularly notorious given the fact that too many rappers have Blood/Crip connections, which tends to cause more violence. There may be lots of thugs out in NY and the Durdy, but they're not set-trippin' (except for those who are still obsessed with their old N.W.A. and Eazy-E tapes - like Young Jeezy), so it doesn't seem quite as problematic.
-
what the west needs is a lil jon - a producer who's puttin' out a bunch of artist from his coast and being all over cats' tracks even tho it's annoying after a long time.
oh..and also a new sound.

Who the fuck are you calling me a hater? You obviously don't know shit about me because I ain't a man to hate for know reason. The only reason why I said that shit was to emphasie the fact that I'm in Cali. The south is doing there thing, that's good for them. I'd just prefer this california shit.

lmao at the people sayin "what has the game done for rap?"....the answer is NOTHING! thats the answer for every one of your favorite rappers! the only rappers that have done anything for rap were the ones that started new trends, new styles of hip hop...The pioneers....the rappers that shaped hip hop...everything is based off that....
what has the game done for hip hop...nothing...what has spice 1 done for hip hop...nothing...what has lil' wayne done for hip hop...nothing....dmx, ja rule, ludacris, jadakiss, 50 cent, benzino, shade sheist, trey dee, and dare i say it...ras kass....none of these people have done shit for hip hop....in fact the only artists i would say have done anything for hip hop are artists like warren g, snoop, NWA, Nas, Jay-Z, LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, Grandmaster Flash, Kool G Rap, Run DMC, eminem (and the only reason i say this is because he has had a huge impact)...etc...
the fact is east and west are both filled with tons of hate...the east coast just has more fun with it and is more creative about it...diss tracks are done with style.
the west is sooo unoriginal now (lyrically)....there are some incredible emcee's comin out of the west and the producers to match...but everybody is rappin about the same shit...the only artists from the west that have the guts to rap about anything different don't get any radio play (dilated peoples, jurassic 5, etc...)
the west needs to diversify and get a new sound...if the west is ever going to be put back on the map its going to be because people stopped rapping about cars, money, bitches, weed, and killing. and because it doesnt still sound like it did in the early 90's (to a point).
honestly i think when detox drops its not going to be much of a familiar sounding album...its not going to be like 2001...its going to have a more unified sound...dre is always bringing heat and is the only one at this point with the ability to start the changes that are needed. and he knows that. when detox drops you won't be able to tell what coast dre repped...its gonna be all about the music
-
the west needs to diversify and get a new sound
it's not even that.... they need to get some new people, other than a Blood or Crip from L.A.
they need someone good from another state on the West other than Calfornia....

amen
i live in seattle and we have some sick rappers here that get no airplay...its fucked up. I've heard a lot of demo's and met a lot of the "up and coming" seattle rappers (if you can call them up and coming...) and theres a lot of good shit...but nobody gives a fuck about seattle...its all about LA & the bay and blah blah blah...the west needs to branch out
