French jazz pianist Jacques Loussier filed a $10 million copyright infringement lawsuit against rapper Eminem in New York on Thursday (March 28), claiming some of the music used in the latter's "Kill You" was lifted from his own work.
Loussier, who gained fame as the founding member of the Play Bach Trio in 1959, claims the backing track on "Kill You" is a little too similar to an instrumental jazz fusion work of his titled "Pulsion."
"The conduct of [Eminem] as alleged in this complaint was never authorized, licensed, permitted, or ratified by [Loussier]," alleges the suit, as quoted by the BBC.
Loussier named Eminem, Interscope Records, and the label's parent company, Vivendi Universal, in the suit and is seeking some $10 million in damages as well as a broadcast ban on the song. "Kill You" appears on Eminem's mega-successful 2000 album The Marshall Mathers LP.

wtf is wrong with sampling?
well first of all...
there is no credit for a sample so there goes that idea
2nd of all
the beat is like exactly the same almost, not a sample, more like the same exact thing
-
yeah they might be guilty about this one check out the

Man, this is the 3rd beat I've heard, that sounds like it was just straight JACKED. Unbelievable. I blame it on dre's co-producers, they're jackin' beats to get with him. Anybody know if Scott Storch had anything to do with this? Ha.

Yeah....remember what Mellowman said about Dre not letting anyone bring in material anymore....& that he wants them to create music on the spot so this type of shit doesn't happen anymore.

Funny, Scott Storch didn't even play on Em's last record. A keyboard player named Tommy Coster Jr. did, he had that tight article about him helping created "The Real Slim Shady."

Usually artist get a little bit of money for the sample, and the record lable pays for that, not the artist. And why sue Em, he ain't the producer, his the rapper, it's the producers job to check all music, then report samples to the company to get them cleared. It pays having family in the music buz, even if their artist only sold like 1,000 units, it's still experence on how to run the game. Anyways, even if Dre didn't know it was a sample, he still gots to check that, and the artist should not sue Em, it's not him that makes the beats. Dre should have been more careful with that. He has since fixed it, but $10 million dollars is a bit much. Maybe like $10 million of some lesser foreign money, and also he should know not to sue Em, but the producer and the record lable, they handle samples.

Eminem SUED? Wow, I'd never think it would come down to this... ;D
This is probably some shit Dre ain't even responsible 4. I think Tommy Coster Jr. went home one night, decided to listen to some music for inspiration, heard this, went to the studio the next day an' was like: "Ay Dre, I came up with this here thing last night, check it out..." Sure, respect is due to the French guy, but C'mon! Suin' Eminem (who ain't even responsible) 2 years after the album comes out spells G-R-E-E-D. The Frenchie was just like: "Sacre bleu! Zis zounds like like my muzic á la piano! I bet there iz big monee in zis fyr moi!" (No offence to any French people.) Oh well. Em is already probably used to bein' sued.
