Man, I went to one of these shows 2 years ago here in Charlotte. It was a saturday & sunday thing at a local hotel. One of the funniest things I've ever done.
It was a lot like what you saw in that video, all these old out of shape wrestlers, and all these guys like the guy with the microphone worshiping everything they do. It was pretty strange that the wrestlers, who you would imagine are the biggest rednecks in the world, actually come off as more intelligent and having their shit together more than the fans. Full grown men walking around in masks and shit.
The two guys who had their shit together the MOST were Dusty Rhodes and Arn Anderson. They were all superstar and shit. My boss was with me and had some old ass pictures of Dusty years ago, so we got to talk to him for a few minutes, he was really cool. Nice guy.
Biggest prick was likely Ricky Steamboat but only because he didn't really care about the fans. Everybody else was like 'hell, i'm at an event this weekend, I'll just talk with the fans blah blah blah" and you could talk to everyone in the halls and shit. Steamboat would run by you and not even stop, and it's not like there was a huge line trying to talk to him. He signed one dudes autograph and went 'huff" and rolled his eyes, made me lose all respect for him right there.
The most interesting thing was the little hanger on's that just show up at events like this. They work deals to get stars to come sign autographs... but some stars just show up and do their own thing picking up the scraps, lol. People doing that were Scary Sherry Martell (although she was really nice!) and Larry Zibisco.
