Devin "The Dude" Makes Moves
Devin "The Dude" doesn't want to fight you or lick shots, he'd rather talk, then issue back shots. The rapper, formerly of Scarface's Facemob and Rap-A-Lot's Odd Squad, has seen a surge in his popularity with stunning cameos on Dr. Dre's Chronic 2001 album. Even though he's worked with some gangstas don't expect Devin to follow suit. "I'm supposed to make you laugh," he says. "I take some otherwise serious issues and bring out a silver lining on them."
Recently, Devin ,along with Snoop Dogg, contacted by another gangsta don, Kool G Rap, to lay a verse on the song "Keep Going," which appears on G's upcoming Giancana Story album.

De La Soul And Devin Make Song For The Fat Girls
(6/2/01, 10 a.m. ET) -- Houston-based rapper Devin The Dude garnered worldwide attention in 1999 when he appeared on Dr. Dre's Dr. Dre 2001, delivering the comical chorus on the standout song "F--k You" (which also features an appearance from Snoop Dogg). While the song was not released as a commercial single, several radio stations throughout the country added it into rotation.
Devin's services have recently been requested by De La Soul, who are in the midst of recording the sequel to last year's Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump, which is tentatively slated to be released this fall. Devin tells LAUNCH that the two acts teamed up to write an ode to overweight women. "De La Soul was down here and they asked me to do a hook on one of their songs on their up-and-coming album," he said. "I'm on that one. It's called 'Baby Fat.' It's just telling the big girls, don't be ashamed of their weight or whatever 'cause there are men out there who can love that cushion. You know it's good for pushing. It's kinda cool. It's kinda hot, man. They did that track, and the verses they did was like, 'Whoo!' So yeah, it was kinda cool."
Devin also recorded "Just A Man" with Lucy Pearl frontman Raphael Saadiq for the Baby Boy soundtrack. As a member of the Rap-A-Lot Records group Odd Squad, Devin made his national debut in 1994 with the album Fadanuf Fa Erybody!!! Devin returned with his first solo album The Dude in 1998. He is currently in Los Angeles working on his sophomore release Just Trying To Live, which is scheduled to be released August 28.
