Phife Dawg: My alltime favourite emcee, great flow, delivery and his voice is perfect for the mic. Ive always got a Tribe or the Ventilation LP in rotation. Ever since Tribe dropped ive been bumping this cat.

Masta Ace: 'Disposable Arts' is Ace's final record, he's fed up with the rap game and voices it throughout this LP, he goes through almost everything. Its deep and gives you an insight to what a REAL emcee, who used to love hip hop but has become disenchanted with the fake bullshit destroyin it, thinks of the game. Ive never felt Ace before this dropped, but he convinced be that real emcees still do exist. My emcee of the moment. Its a shame he's gone.

Xzibit - My favorite MC right now. His lyrics, voice, flow, charisma and albums are all tight as fuck. I think he's very consistent. Some people didn't like Restless but I thought it was probably my favorite album of 2000 and we all know his previous joints were hot. "Get Fucked Up With Me" is straight heat. That shit is perfect for smoke! Man VS. Machine is my most anticipated album. I'm just counting the days until the album drops.

Snoop Dogg - Always been in my Top 3 MC's ever. He usually comes with tight albums. Tha Last Meal was a great album. The voice and flow is what makes me enjoy Snoop's music so much. IMO Snoop's "Death Row" flow was untouchable and even though it's changed I still think it's ill but not as great as his older flow. Paid The Cost To Be The Boss is another much anticipated album.

Scarface - Just like Xzibit, Scarface is my favorite MC right now and has to be one of the most consistent rappers out there today. Every album was dope. Even all his Geto Albums were amazing. IMO he's the deepest rapper out there now and matches 2Pac in the deep lyrics category. His voice is straight up raw like Xzibit and the flow is hot. I remember when I bought The Diary which was the first album he used his new flow on, that shit blew me away. Last Of A Dying Breed is a superb album and should be an influence to rappers because it had no commercial joints but still went gold. I can't wait for Face's Def Jam release because the new single with him and Jay-Z is fuckin' oven hot!

E-40: hes always been so original...even when he was in the M.V.P.z with B-Legit and D-Shot.....u cant touch him....there is no rapper like him....just one of the greatest ever...
Xzibit: hes just so tight....to come from a very underground start to being one of the biggest rappers is a huge feat....hes been down for so long....lyrically one of the strongest right now and ever....
Tray Deee: hard as hell....intelligent....o.g.....thats explains Tray Deee perfectly....hes one of the most underrated...hes been down with snoop since doggystyle and before....he helped snoop in writing that album.....he will get his due once Generals List drops....

Xzibit: Mr x to tha z has been real hot, and tha album, damn is gonna be amazing....restless sold 2 mill albums, this will sell 4-5. Im really feelin his lyrics, a good lyricst and good voice for rap.

Nas: fav rapper is always hot, stillmatic was hot (What goes around and one mic was off the hook) really good lyricst at open mic.

1. XZIBIT - Hands down, best flow, best attitude, funny, good subject-matter, the ability to raise a average track with a verse.

2. METHOD MAN - Funny as hell, extreme flow, and always makes tight joints, also the ability to completely save a horrible beat.

3. PHAROAHE MONCH - Damn, I didn't even use to like him, but he's one of the biggest talents out there, this cat can produce also, and he showed off a little of his huge potential on the Training Day-joint "Fuck you", which he also produced. Also, his verse on the DJ Quik-sampler was off the hook, so good that DJ QUIK chose to repeat the beginning of the verse 3 TIMES.
"Now, what - the - fuck - do - we - have - here"?

Good topic BTW.

Biggie - I was so caught up in the west/east beef with Pac back in the day, that I wouldn't even give this cat a listen. Now that I've found his music, I'm amazed almost every day at something he says. He was soooo fucking talented. RIP.

Bad Ass and Techniec don't worry I was like that too. I was such a die hard West Coaster. I did buy B.I.G.'s albums though because I really liked his music I just hated him as a person with a passion. LOL! R.I.P. Biggie.

His voice annoyed me at first, but once you get past it, his wordplay is just amazing. Juicy was the only song I really felt back in the day. Now I like almost everything he is on. Wish he was still around today. RIP.

Charli 2na - He got a tight flow and always comes correct on the mic.

Nas - Stepped up with the lyrics on Stillmatic.

Nas: His new cd blew me away, not as good stillmatic, but it shows his great lyrical ability. Thought i would never get a good nas album after nastradamus. Hopefully he keeps the good work up.

Crooked i: my most anticpated cd at the moment. Murdering Mc's, death rizzo and uh oh show his good lyrical ability. I think that Murderin Mcs is fucking incredible!! I think he has got a real hard hitting voice and flow aswell. All he needs is some good prodcution behind him.

Yeah, this cd was tight. I'm feelin every song maybe for except 3. One of the dopest cd's of 2001 for sure... maybe even in the top 5.

I'm also feelin all of the Likwit Crew and all the people that branch off of them.. King Tee, Xzibit, Tha Alkaholiks, Defari, Phil Da Agony, Declaime, Ras Kass & Saafir (Down with Xzibit- Golden State)... Dilated Peoples...

King Tee - He's been puttin it down for years and brought alot of these people in the game... he does the MC shit, Gangsta Shit, and just drunk party shit all at the same time.. I can't wait for something of his to drop.

Tha Liks - Their shit is just dope to party too.. it's dope.

the Rest - They all just prove there's real talent out here in the West Coast.. makin anyone who says the West lacks lyricism eat their words. And then they're actually spittin real shit...

Snoop Dogg - He's Classic. Bosses Of All Bosses, You Gotta Like Him. He's been Puttin it Down for a while now, has the best voice in RAP.

Kurupt - My favorite MC. Had an Incredible Flow Back In the Day, but is kinda lakin deez days and his lyrics are gettin boring.

Dj Quik - Been IN The Game For A Hot Minute. One Of the Most Talented rappers/Producers In the Rap Game. Very Original and Unique. has Party tracks as well as chill out songs.

Eminem - Dope flow, dope lyrics & witty. Probably the most entertaining MC for me, once he drops new shit, I listen to it religiously.

Method Man - Brings comedy into hiphop really good, doesn't seem to be serious about anything. Real entertainment.

Masta Ace - been listenin to him forever. Doesn't really fuck around on the mic, gets the job done. Probably one of the best oldschool cats around, that's gotten better over time.

My God this is an impossible question to answer, but I'll try anyway:

Current Favorite:

Jay-Z - He has effortlessly dominated a field of talented MCs for over half a decade.  He's incredibly gifted and incredibly smart.  He's also very business savvy, and his career gives us an idea of what B.I.G.'s could have been.  The name Shawn Carter will always be in my Top Ten.

All-Time Fav's:

B.I.G. - In my opinion the best of his time if not the best ever.  He will ALWAYS be in my top 3 at any given time.

The D.O.C. - Perhaps the greatest writer of all-time, he overcame the worst possible setback to pen the majority of hip-hop's best 2 albums.  His solo work is also magnificent (including Helter Skelter).  I am anticipating "Deuce" more than anything else at the moment.

Kane - He was the best in his prime, and he has proven he can still bring it when he's got a good beat (see: "The Man, The Icon)

Eminem - Incredibly talented and incredibly driven.  I will always respect him for the obstacles he overcame even if I don't agree with what he's saying half the time.  Listening to Em is like watching The Godfather; you know these people are wrong but you can't help but pull for them and appreciate their entertainment value.

KRS-One - This man drops the knowledge like no one else.  His voice and delivery are intense.  Wears the "Teacher" nickname well.

Rakim - Trendsetter, Icon, Pioneer.  No further explanation needed.

Ice Cube - Probably would have been the best ever if he could have retained his early form, but of course that was impossible as all great artists must grow and change.

Slick Rick - Waaaaaay ahead of his time.  He has one of the tightest flows ever and the unique voice to go with it.  Plus he's the wittiest rapper ever, influencing everyone from Eminem to Redman to MC Paul Barman to B.I.G.

Kool G Rap - The pioneer of the multi-syllabic rhyme scheme used by everyone today.  He was also one of the first "gangsta" rappers although he is not a west coast cat.  His only drawback is he needs a hot beat or he doesn't come off as good (i.e. Kane) but then again, who does? (only B.I.G.)

Big Punisher - Kind of a new & improved G Rap with a latin twist.  He was too ill when he came out, just murdering the mic on everything he touched.  Then he got lazy and ballooned up to 700 pounds.  The last two years of his career were not representative of the fire this cat was capable of.  I almost think he purposely tried to fall off just so he could build up doubt and resurrect himself, but he died too soon to prove me right.

Bun-B - This cat gets almost no love from "true" hip hop heads but his skills are second to none.  His verse from "Murder" is IMO the greatest ever spit.  Plus he found a way to flip the accent that makes other southern MCs sound like stupid backwater hillfolk into an asset.

Nas - The fact that he's gone from most-jocked to most-hated and back to most-jocked is something I can only attribute to his skills.  Though I don't subscribe to the notion that Stillmatic has completely redeemed his position as hip-hop's great one, I can't front on his skills.  He's not as good as he was when he came out but he's damn good.

Honorable Mentions:

2Pac: Easily the most charismatic MC ever, his flow was also very good and he tried to "be somebody" instead of just trying to make money.  He wasn't the deepest but he was far from shallow.  My problem with him is his repetitiveness, his hypocritical nature and the fact that he brought too much hate to the game.

Redman - Very skilled, very unique and very funny.  He is the predecessor to Eminem; the goofball with skills.  However, he never ventures as far into himself or important issues, which keeps him at a level below Marshall Mathers.

Chuck D - Along with KRS-One, he is hip-hop's reigning king of activism.  Who would have thought a booming voice and tight flow (along with flawless Bomb Squad production) would propel a group of black panthers to crossover success?

Ghostface Killah - He is the most unique rapper I've ever heard, and he has massive skills (as does the majority of his crew).  I give it up to this man for having the balls to be "hip-hop's Andy Warhol."

Snoop Doggy Dogg - This man will go down in history as the most recognizable rap star ever (alongside 2Pac).  He released the single greatest LP ever although it was not really his vision and he had a lot of input from his mentors.  Still, his voice and charisma are so impressed on me, he'll always have a place in my collection.

Zack de la Rocha - Not too many people even make the effort to listen to this cat.  Most people are too busy enjoying the brilliant way Rage Against the Machine fused rap with metal.  He is VERY DEEP and VERY DRIVEN; he's the modern version of Chuck D and KRS-One with an even more passionate desire to change the world.  Along with Tom Morello and the rest of the band (R.I.P.), he's definitely changed mine.

OutKast - Innovative, skilled and very unique.  The most daring duo in hip hop since Run-DMC.

Beastie Boys - Very underrated.  Though none of them stands far above the rest, together they form one of the greatest groups ever.  With their old-school routines and broad musical influences, they are some of the last true hip-hop "artists."

Busta Rhymes - Incredible flow and presence matched only by his outrageously genius image and sense of style.  Would be among the greatest ever if he would quit dumbing down his lyrics for mass audiences (though he wouldn't be near as successful).

I know I'm forgetting some people but that's enough for now.

I'm glad someone recognizes Bun-B. He is one of the most underrated MC's ever. "Murder" was my favorite track from Ridin' Dirty. Him and Pimp C are definitely one of my favorite groups ever and the best thing out of the South now along with Outkast and Scarface.

Dogg, not to sound like an ass, but that's not even 1/10 of my collection.

I'm sorry, I just have too many favorites.  I guess if I had to narrow it down I'd say B.I.G. & Rakim from the east, Cube & D.O.C. from the west, and Eminem & Bun-B from the south/midwest.  That's as far as I can go.

Oh yeah, I also forgot to mention Run-DMC, EPMD, A Tribe Called Quest, Wu-Tang Clan & the Fugees.  Equally great groups.

Speaking of the Fugees, Lauryn Hill is one of a handful of femcees who can rock the mic with the big boys (the most notable others being Rage & Da Brat).  Actually there are quite a few nice females when I think about it...Latifah, MC Lyte, Lil' Kim (don't front), Remy Martin, Free, Rah Digga, Eve...damn.

As for up-and-comers I like Cee-Lo, and Mos Def is nice as hell.  Cam'Ron is ill too although for some reason everyone seems to hate him.  Last but not least, I must also give props to that underground genius known as Paul Barman.
