NEW YORK (AP) - Kobe Bryant was suspended for two games without pay Friday for elbowing Mike Miller in the throat.
During Wednesday's 101-99 loss to Memphis, the Lakers guard was called for a flagrant foul with 8:24 to play for elbowing Miller.
After the game, Bryant was unapologetic. He had been gashed over his left eye in the second quarter when Miller pushed him in the face with his hand; the cut required three stitches.
"Any player that was going to come down the lane at that point in time, I was going to let him know that he just can't walk through there," Bryant said. "I think we as a team have to do a better job of establishing that. And me, as a leader of the ballclub, I've got to take the initiative to do that - and hopefully, everybody will see that.
"This being our home court, people come here and think it's Hollywood and all sorts of stuff, so they think they'll come down (the lane) and look pretty and shoot jump shots and dunk the ball and finger-roll the ball and do all sorts of cute stuff. And we've got to stop that."
Bryant is scheduled to serve his suspension Sunday, when the Lakers host Utah, and Tuesday, when Los Angeles plays at the Jazz.

Ok, its one thing intimidating, its another thing playing like a bitch and playing dirty, elbowing is not in the rules, elbowing and almost hurting someone is not intimidation, its being an poor sport. Dwyane Wade did the same exact thing, intentionally elbowing Kobe for retaliation, but he didn't get shit...More proof of Kobe being one of the most hated players in the league...and LMAO@that Hollywood comment, Kobe sounds serious as fuck about this shit...I love it. Seriously though, I woulda' socked Mike Miller in the head if he woulda' "accidently" cut my eye open like that. I definitely understand Kobe's frustrations, getting pounded everytime he takes it in, and most of the time there being no whistle...Even that last Kobe lay-up for the game was a foul, so I can definitely see where the frustration is coming from...I wanna see Odom and Kwame step up in Kobe's absence...I would love for the Lakers to win their next four games, as I predicted before the Kobe suspension...Profit is Kobe's most reliable back-up though, so the Lakers are really gunna feel his absence in these next 2 games...PeACe

I think , Kobe is right about the team being too soft at home, , too many uncontested lay-ups and dunks have been given. About Mike Miller, Kobe was pissed off coz this bitch walked away like nothin happened after the incident. We need a Rick-Fox type of player who can be the enforcer (who can be suspended games unlike the leader of the team)

Kobe Bryant was suspended by the NBA without pay for two games for flagrantly fouling Memphis guard Mike Miller on Wednesday, an action that cost him $289,943 in lost salary and continued an already arduous week for Bryant and the Lakers.
Bryant, who disagreed with the league's decision, was called for the foul after elbowing Miller in the chin in the fourth quarter of the Lakers' 100-99 overtime loss. Referees called it a flagrant foul I, but the league upgraded it to a flagrant foul II, assessed for "unnecessary and excessive contact."
Bryant, the NBA's second-leading scorer, will serve the suspension for a home game Sunday against the Utah Jazz and a road game Tuesday in Utah.
"I'm very surprised," Bryant said Friday. "Shocked, actually. Very, very surprised. Angry and frustrated. I've been hit with a couple of flagrant fouls already this year, hit with a clothesline and no suspensions come of that. And I get two games for this."
Laker Coach Phil Jackson said Bryant's postgame comments probably contributed to the severity of the suspension.
Bryant said after the game that "any player that was going to come down the lane at that particular time, I was going to let them know that they just can't walk through here."
He reiterated those remarks Friday.
"What I said is no different than what everybody else says," Bryant said. "If somebody comes down the lane, you've got to hit them. You can't let them come down the lane, just finger-roll and get up easy baskets.
"Nothing to hurt anybody or anything like that, that's just basic NBA basketball."
Miller had thrown a pass just before the foul occurred.
Laker General Manager Mitch Kupchak also disagreed with the ruling.
"We understand that the league has a job to do in enforcing disciplinary action, but we disagree with and are disappointed with their ruling," Kupchak said in a statement.
Bryant can appeal the fine but not the suspension. He is not allowed to be in the arena for either game, and he spent most of Friday's practice watching from the sideline as the team prepared for Utah without him. The Lakers, currently 15-14, have lost three consecutive games by a combined nine points.
Miller and Bryant began tussling in the third quarter Wednesday, when a driving Miller elbowed Bryant and caused an inch-long gash near Bryant's left eye that required three stitches.
Bryant said Friday the league appeared to ignore that play.
"It seems that way," he said. "I got called for a foul on that? He threw his elbow out and cracked me in the face."
Bryant did express remorse for his flagrant foul … sort of.
"I wish I could go back in time and take that foul back knowing what I know now, getting two games for it," he said. "No way in my mind did I think it was going to be a suspension or something like that. No way."

News Flash! The team wont be any tougher 3 games from now. Comparing this to the old Detroit teams is silly. Those teams were legitimately tough...and yeah, they were dirty, and intimidating. But that was their gimic, their thing. What they lacked in talent, they made up for in toughness. This Laker squad is FARRRRRRRRRRRRR from that...and this wont change anything. If Kobe feels the team needs to resort to this shit....its his way of saying we arent talented enough to compete. The team doesnt need to toughin up physically, they need to toughin up mentally. Honestly, they should sit Kobe for more then two games. Im not talkin shit, but i seriously think it would help the overall team a LOT in the long run. These guys have gotten too dependant on Kobe. Having him out for 5 games or so would probably lose you 5 lol. But the team would get used to being more aggressive themselves...and not so passive. very easy to distinguish who are the Kobe Fans....and who are the Laker Fans. obviously two different groups lol There are better ways to get your team to toughin up, then takin a cheap shot at somebody like a bitch. News Flash! The team wont be any tougher 3 games from now. Comparing this to the old Detroit teams is silly. Those teams were legitimately tough...and yeah, they were dirty, and intimidating. But that was their gimic, their thing. What they lacked in talent, they made up for in toughness. This Laker squad is FARRRRRRRRRRRRR from that...and this wont change anything. If Kobe feels the team needs to resort to this shit....its his way of saying we arent talented enough to compete. The team doesnt need to toughin up physically, they need to toughin up mentally. Honestly, they should sit Kobe for more then two games. Im not talkin shit, but i seriously think it would help the overall team a LOT in the long run. These guys have gotten too dependant on Kobe. Having him out for 5 games or so would probably lose you 5 lol. But the team would get used to being more aggressive themselves...and not so passive. The other guys would have to step up in his absense, and should be stronger by the time he returned. Its well known around the league that Kobe isnt the greatest at motivating his teammates, so this would force them to motivate themselves. Just sitting and watching Kobe force up fade away jumper wont win the team any playoff series....so why not take the chance now and see what happens.

Like i said, theres a reason his leadership skills have been in question around the league ever since Shaq was traded away. Im not saying he'll NEVER be a good leader....he just isnt one now. They play well when Kobe scores between 25-35 points....and only shoots 25 times. When Kobe shoots 35 times, and scores 40 points...the team doesnt play so well. Like ive said, a million times NIK...he is a good player, one of the best in the league. But as much as you think i dont give him enough credit sometimes....you give him too much. Maybe we're both wrong, shit i dunno. Who gives a shit really. Its never been his skill or talent ive downtalked, its his attitude. Kobe got suspended, and it's a good decision, but please Miller can't be portrayed like a poor victim: he started it. It's retaliation. Shit happens. It happened to Wade too, against Kobe, in their last game in Miami. But since Wade is untouchable, nobody suspended him. They didn't even call it a flagrant, lol. But fuck it, Kobe's shit was still wrong. Exactly like Miller's stupid foul. It's gonna be interesting to see the Lakers playing two straight without Kobe.

The thing is, he's not a Robin...If Shaq was Superman, Kobe was Batman, or maybe even more...How could the closest thing to Jordan be described as a Robin? Yeah, the refs ain't showing love to the Lakers lately.. Miller's foul was very very bad and dangerous. He was driving to the basket, with nobody stopping him, but still he hitted Kobe who was not even contesting his shot. I didn't like that shit AT ALL. But fuck that, like Phil said it's a marathon, and the next two games will be just a test for us, so i ain't bitching about it no more. What i wanna see is a good reaction at home. Surprisingly we have a way better away record than the home one. If we fix our menthal problems at home we could reach the 4-5th place in the Western.

I didn't want to bitch about it, cause having a former international referee as a father i'm not into this "we got robbed by the referees" shit. But i've noticed a lot of strange situations lately. Expecially against Mihm. I've seen Shaq elbowing him in the last Miami-Lakers game, but the referee always called it a foul against Mihm. At least 3 times he inverted the call. Plus Wade elbowed Kobe but he didn't got punished with a flagrant (it was a 2 games suspesion easily). And i can go on and on.. what about the last shot by Mihm in the last game? Wasn't it a cristalline foul? And wasn't Miller's foul a flagrant? Shit they're getting no love. Why?

LOL...It's not even a mystery. The refs (and even the league) simply doesn't respect the Lakers...I'm not complaining though, it's just been obvious. It actually happened again today...Late in the 4th quarter it was a tie game, Kirelenko was under the basket with Mihm defending him. Mihm didn't even contest the shot and he gets called for the foul...Earlier, Lakers were down by 3. Odom drove it to the hoop, got fouled on the shot, and flipped the ball up for an amazing reverse lay-up. The ref calls NO continuation...a great chance to tie the game and sway the momentum towards the Lakers direction ruined once again by the refs...There's no way I'm blaming this game on the refs though, the Lakers missed too many vital free-throws down the stretch for me to blame this game on the refs, but let me tell you, the respect the Lakers lack around the league is unexplainable...Kobe is gunna shit on the league in his return.

I pretty much don't/can't watch the NBA because the reffing is awful.... every 5 seconds there's a whistle.... one guy gets a finger laid on him while he has the ball and it's a foul..... so lame
