Title: Question about USC

How can USC claim they won the 1st of the last 2 (soon to be 3 ;D) BCS National Championships. I read an explanation somewhere but it didn't make to much sence to me. I saw a couple guys on ESPN really critizing people for saying USC can win there 3rd national Championship in a row.
I'm just getting in to college football so some of this stuff is still confusing to me.

the BCS had them ranked #2 behind LSU i believe, but the AP had them #1 so therefore LSU and USC shared the title 2 years ago. Co-Champs

Yup USC should have been #1 that year they got dicked.
