What are some west coast songs that were released as singles that you thought were going to blow up but didn't? A few of mine...
Xzibit "Get Your Walk On"
The Game "Put You On The Game"
I really don't understand how those songs wren't big hits....
-
get on my hype remix
-
Hmmm, Real American actually talks about music for a change. I was beginning to think you gave a fuck about the music and were just here to debate with people over politics.
Anyway, I didn't really think "Put You On The Game" really had much potential to be a hit (it's quite possibly the most annoying Timbo beat I've ever heard)...Game should've released "Higher" or "Where I'm From" as singles instead, IMO.

Ice Cube - You know how we do it
"You Know How We Do It" didn't blow up? I remember seeing the video on MTV quite regularly back in '94. It wasn't as big a hit as "It Was A Good Day", but it was still quite popular - these were the days when the public's craving for G-Funk was starting to warm up, so a lot of major label rappers adapting the G-Funk template (even wack ones) were doing well.
And with "G'd Up" - I dunno how well it did, but the album went Platinum, so it must have blown up in at least a handful of significant markets (certainly, amongst Snoop fans).

LMAO....You know how we do it was a major hit then, and shit it still gets more spins on KDay than most new hits (other than Grills). G'D up blew up a lot too, even outside of LA
-
G'D up Didnt blow up?? I thought it was a Hit?

Yeah, that's what I figured. No way Tha Eastsidaz could've gone Platinum otherwise; "G'd Up" would've had to do quite well in other markets. According to AMG, it hit #2 on the Rap Charts and #47 on the Pop 100. Not great or anything, but combined with Snoop's fanbase, that pretty much ensured them decent sales...and they got them.
-
jayo felony's "nitty gritty"...wutta fuck were peeps smokin on back in 98 to sleep on this....
3x krazy's "keep it on the real" ...it shoulda deserved more exposure....
the game's "put u on the game"...a definite banger....not to mention a bad ass timbo beat...
-
keak da sneak - super hpyhy should have blown the fuck up on a national scale
-
keak da sneak - super hpyhy should have blown the fuck up on a national scale
Yeah, I think his style is a bit too unorthodox to blow up nationally without bein pushed hard. Most people around the country love the beat, especially in Florida, but they think Keak is trash and got jokes like "he sound like Cartman" or "damn the Cookie Monster got a song now?"
-
yeah i forgot bout jayo's nitty gritty maybe the best song ever
-

Couldnt have said it better myself.

The Game - Higher
Yukmouth - Nuthin 2 a Boss
Daz f/ Soopafly - Don't Stop
Kurupt f/ Jon B. - Sunshine (if "Beautiful" by Snoop blew up, this track shoulve blew too)

without a doubt, nice vid too.

I have one I always thought was really good. The Dogg Pound - Feels So Good featuring LaToyia Williams. I just feel that it was a great commercial record that could have been huge. If released with the right promotion, I think it could have been as big as Let's Play Hosue.
-
snoop & bad azz - wrong idea
kurupt - we can freak it
They were pretty big to me, everybody around the nation heard em and they were in rotation on BET. Wrong idea was on 106 and park.
-
Criminal Set - Xzibit
-
Bad Azz - U Dont Wanna Be Broke
Tash ft. Raekwon - Rap Life
-
i think RapLife was a poor choice.. but its obvious why they went for it.. 1) its the name of the album, and 2) the raekwon feature..
my fave song onthe album is Nightfall
-
Xzibit - Muthafucka
Xzibit - Criminal Set
Xzibit - Get Ya Walk On
Bad Azz - Wrong Idea
Mack 10 - Hate In Yo Eyez
Mack 10 Ft. Big Tymers - Do Tha Damn Thang
E-40 Ft. Clipse - Quarterbackin'
-
SLY BOOGY - IT'S NUTHIN
-
Raplife Great Song 8)
-
nature to ride- spice 1
push bacc- dpg
nature to ride isnt commercial-directed at all, but its still fukkin sick. on the other hand i could easily see push bacc bein played all day... ill-ass joint.
-
shade shiest / Nate Dogg / Kurupt - where i wanna be
that was kinda a hit but it shudda put sheist past gold on his album as to me it was one of tha best g funk tunes since regulate
also
Mack 10 / Techniec / Shade Shiest - Stack'Bangin
Mc Eiht - Thicker Than Water
they were both dope as fuck n dey never got the shine they deserved
-
Mack 10 presents Da Hood - Hittin' Switches
easily one of the best tracks of the last few years...
-
This Has Bothered Me For A While
Mack 10 & Dogg Pound - Nuthin But Tha Cavi
-
basically anything by mack 10
-
This Has Bothered Me For A While
Mack 10 & Dogg Pound - Nuthin But Tha Cavi

mr short khop - dollaz, drank & dank (that song should have been huge)
bad azz - how we get down
b.g. knocc out & dresta - jealousy
tha comrads - that there
tha liks - tha next level
king tee \w tha liks, xzibit & breeze - freestyle ghetto
peeps - take some
-
King Tee ft Baby S - Squeeze Ya Balls
Julio G played this song on the 9:00 bomb every day back in '97. This should have blown up. Amazing DJ Battlecat beat right when he was blowing up. Plus the hook was catchy.
Sly Boogy - That's My Name
Catchy hook, Scott Storch beat, this should have been big, but no promotion.
Ras Kass feat Dr. Dre and Mack 10 - Ghetto Fabulous
You had a guest appearance by Dr. Dre and a Dre'ish sounding beat with a nice hook basically wasted. This song should have been huge. Priority really fucked up with this one.
King Tee - Dippin remix
This song is similar to Dr. Dre's Let Me Ride and the video is similar but I actually like this song more. The whole song is catchy as hell and the beat is sick. It's your perfect Southern California crusin type song. I never heard this song on the radio and saw the video maybe once.
DJ Quik - Trouble
I don't see how anyone could not like this song, nor do I understand why the radio didn't play it more.
-
king tee \w tha liks, xzibit & breeze - freestyle ghetto
damn that was a crazy track.
I got a question- Mad CJ Mac- Come And Take A Ride (Ft. Poppa LQ), how big was that track out in LA when it dropped in '95?
-
jayo felony's "nitty gritty"...wutta fuck were peeps smokin on back in 98 to sleep on this....
the game's "put u on the game"...a definite banger....not to mention a bad ass timbo beat...
jayos song is ubelievable

Bad Intentions- Dr. Dre and Quik (this song didnt blow up like it should have.)
Keep it Gangsta- Daz
-
Sly Boogy - That's My Name
Catchy hook, Scott Storch beat, this should have been big, but no promotion.
Yeah I was DEFINITELY about to say that one. I was on that track hard as hell, and it definitely had what it takes to appeal to everybody in the nation.
-
warren g's - something for you to bounce to ... and a whole lot of warren g and quik tracks...
what else shouldve blown the fuck up is "kurupt ft. j-ro - tonite" that shit was my party anthem for a while.
-
hi-c ft. suga free - say woop
-
My top choices would be
Game - Put ya on da game

Mack 10 - Hate In Yo Eyez
Sly Boogy - Thatz My Name
Crooked I - Boom Boom Clap
-
This Has Bothered Me For A While

-
and why didnt knoc'turn'al's album not hit big ? did it make platinum ?
a song that should be huge is "knoc ft. xzibit & nate dogg - what we do" dre just produces an amazing track, and i dont even remember a video... best song of 04...

-

ABOVE THE LAW - BLACK SUPERMAN
Black Superman did blow and it blew up huge, locally here in the underground and on the streets. Just because the radio didn't play it doesn't mean it wasn't a hit. Black Superman is the epitome of an underground street classic. Everyone was bumpin that shit back in the day.
-
