Post by: Suga Foot on March 20, 2006, 08:20:30 AM

You say that like it's a bad thing.
Stuff like religon is just more controversal so it becomes more popular to talk about.

I don't really believe in all those "1 minute ..." and "Become in 10 steps a...."-books.. I mean, at the end of the day it all depends on what and how much work you do, some things you just can't change. Though some books might have some interesting tips..

www.questmarinesurveys.com - not the best site but gives you an idea of what we do :)

same principle as if you were buying a house, youd get it surveyed for structural integrity and to find fault etc, same thing but on boats, yachts, shipping, marine construction etc...we do work for insurance companies, solicitors (for valuations in claims and divorces) as well as private clients

:D

I have a diploma in Small Craft & Yacht Surveying so my "title" is Duncan Rutherford DipMarSur ;D hehe (i did it with the International Institute of Marine Surveyors - http://www.iims.org.uk/

yea its great money, average survey cost is £400 for a 30" GRP yacht (full pre-purchase survey takes around 6 hours)

Marine surveying is more specialist than Land Surveying or Building/Structural so we can charge more! ;)

Yea in aussie it is LAW to have a marine survey carried out for insurance and pre-purchase...here it aint!! :/ so the government in AU actually offer to subsidise you to move over there to trade if you qualified so you never know i just might one day!!! ;)

That sounds like a cool job.  Do you inspect the engines too?  I worked for my dad a few years ago, we fit a lot of yachts with struts and props (we built them aswell).  But after 9/11 the yacht building industry almost died here.  I started manufacturing dock boxes this year.  ( www.nodamanufacturing.com/dockbox.htm )  I've been setting up with distrobution companies, I'm tryin to get them into yacht clubs etc.
