If Detox comes out it will be a classic album. There is no disputing this because Dre wouldn't release it otherwises. So Dre will have Chronic, 2001, and Detox. 3 classic albums. What rapper can say they have 3 classic albums? The only other person I could think possibly has this is 2Pac. Now lets just hope Detox does come out. ;)
So the question I ask you is... Is there any artists who have 3 undisputed albums recognized as classics?

I know. What I'm saying is try to think what most people would recognize as a classic and what you think are the best albums of all time, find an album that somewhat fits both those critrea and poof! You have your answer. As far as sales, the only reason those matter is because in order for it to be a classic many hip hop heads have to have heard it but even that is unsatisfactory sometimes. Just look at Illmatic. I'm sure it went platinum by now, but when it came out it was a commerical faliure. Today it is recognized as one of the classic albums of all time. I guess in the end a classic album IMO is one that has excellent quality (of course) and really effected the rap game in some way (made rap history).
Maybe I should of started a thread entitled "What makes a classic album" then posted this thread. ???
So far the only possible one I see that are posted are Outkast. Ice Cube had 2, Scareface had one and Jay-Z had 2 IMHO. I'm still undecided on a tribe called quest because I am not as fimiliar with there albums as others, so I can't make an opinion worth postiong.

In this thread alone people stated that Jay-Z, Nas, 2Pac, Outkast, Ice Cube, E-40, Raekwon, Ghostface, DJ Quik, Spice 1, Too $hort and Rakim have had least one classic album (which is all true, alough I'd have to disagree on about half of them having more then one).

Outta those four guys, I'd just pick Nas (with those exact albums). Jay-Z is so-so, some may feel the listed 3 are classic, but I wouldn't.

I'm thinking Outkast (obviously, mentioned before plenty of times.)
Ice Cube with AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted, Death Certificate and Lethal Injection.
DJ Quik has four classics: Quik Is the Name, Safe + Sound, Rythymalism and Balance & Options. Plus, in my humble opinion, Trauma will be considered as a classic in a few years. Say what you say. I don't think the great audience hasn't yet grasped the full greatness of that album. Just my opinion.
Then Pac - 7 Day Theory, All Eyez On Me and Me Against the World.
But when it comes to me, there are many many CD's in my shelf that I hold near and dear and are classic to me, but wouldn't be considered classic by the collective that is "hip-hop heads".

Quik might of had 4, if it was based soley on how good people think an album is. But you have to ask yourself what effect did it have on hip hop and will people be playing these albums 10 years from now. It's Dark and Hell is Hot fits that criteria. Great Depression and Grand Champ don't IMO.

I will definitely co-sign Outkast and Tribe Called Quest. Tribe doesn't really get the props they deserve because they dont have the visibility alot of other artists on this list do, but the three albums already mentioned are some of the best in hip-hop EVER. Don't sleep.
I'm on the line about 2pac. He's a personal favorites of course, but I kinda feel like only 2 of the 3 albums mentioned are REALLY classics.

The fact that AEOM is already considered one of the best albums in history and people are still argueing over which of his 3 albums (AEOM, MTDK7DT, MATW) are the best, proves that all 3 are classics IMO.

THats definetly personal opinion but i think Doggfather was a classic it was just slept on as it was his album after doggystyle. I also liked the last meal but classic? hmmm prolly not. NAs and Jay Z definetly DO NOT have 3 classics ad give Nas 2 and 1 to Jay.....
How about Killa Cam? Confessions of Fire, S.D.E, and Purple Haze are all very solid albums. Hood classics maybe?.....
Big Pun? Capital Punishment, Endangered Species and Yeeeah Baby were all classic IMO.
