It's a serious question, before the hate begins lol...
When Juelz Santana dropped Me 2 U I picked it up 'cause I liked some samples I heard. I didn't know a thing about Dipset but the album was dope and I still play it time to time.
Since then, nothing. I've only heard Cam's singles and I didn't like the poppy sound of some of 'em, so I avoided him. I didn't 'get' the hype around other members of the crew and I didn't hear anything from Juelz' second album.
Then, this weekend, I listened to Hell Rell's album on the headphones in my local record shop and it sounded fucking great - really gutter, grimy shit, like modern East Coast hip-hop should be.
It got me thinking - maybe I haven't given this 'movement' a chance. So what I want Sikotic, Spice and the crew here to do is 'explain' the Dipset to me - is that Hell Rell CD a good indication of their sound? Are there better examples of what they do? Any help would be cool - I recently realised I've lost touch with a lot of modern hip-hop so this seems as good a place to start as any 8)

Yeah alot of people think we are joking around when we speak about the Dips but its all sincere, these guys are really running the rap game right now.
I'l give you my 2 cents on the 6 main mc's of the Dipset. And make sure you check out J.R's and 40 Cal's new album.
CamRon = He really has it all, the ability to make gangsta tracks while at the same time making club tracks aswell. Cam has a great sense of what he likes to do and his lyrics and punchlines are never lacking. Check out all of his 5 solo albums they are all very, very good.
Juelz = he is def the mainstream rapper out of the group, at times I think his mixtapes sound better than his albums, but the guy can still spit real nice. Juelz is usually on point with the wordplay and metaphors but at times can sound a little too commercial, but dude is great regardless
J.R. Writer = Wow you must check out his new album "History in the Making" Dude is a lyricist to the fullest. Although Cam has great metaphors and lyrics J.R. might be able to top him someday.
40 Cal = Check out his album also that he is releasing tomorrow. Dude has a real confident, grimey sounding voice and is on point w/ his lyrics aswell.
Jim Jones = Dude is a boss, now his rapping skills arent where J.R.'s or Cam's are, but Jimmy knows how to make good tracks and his last 2 albums were madly underated.
Hell Rell = Maybe my least favorite dip but dude is still raw. Hell Rell seems to be the most gutter of all the Dips when he raps, Hell Rell has some nice raps though.
Overall just check out all of their albums and mixtapes, they never dissapoint

but right now you might tell that im listening to alot of purple city and SAS
SAS is a part of dipset, they brothers and are real nice, good punch line good metaphores, good flow, and they work well together.
purple city is not technicaly part of the dips but are closely affiliated. shiest bub, un kasa, and the producer (i cant spell his name, makes fye beats and spits nice) the also have a-mafia, smoke and numbers and a few more. they are real nice and did an album with the bayro gang from paris.

Y'all have to realize, these dudes are some of the only cats in the game not tryin' to be the next nigga. They got their own style (like everyone else is saying), they don't go with the same formula 95% of the other dudes out are goin' for.
Alotta you pansy ass muhfuckas are so used to the formula that you lost respect for originality and uniqueness. That's why Dipset is shakin up the industry and niggas either wanna shut em down or leech off what they're doing.....cuz there aint nuthin else like it.
They are well-rounded and diverse too. They got the mainstream sounding tracks to attract newcomers with catchy tunes. Then once they hook you, they reel you in with that hardcore, grimy, gutter, herpe-blister-poppin' shit that's G'd up as hell. They got beats, they got lyrics, they got flow.
I mean, if you don't know by now, you're either ignorant and avoiding that pure unadulterated crack.......or you're a fuckin' lame. Your name better be Helen muthafuckin' Keller if you don't feel this shit. DIPSET!
