I'm separating this one from al Bundy's thread since that one's about 40 and Rasheed Wallace, but since a couple people on this board think Tray Deee is a God on the mic, I'm here to get everyone's opinion on this. Don't get me wrong, Tray Deee's a good rapper, however as a lyricist, he wouldn't be considered in the top 150 (if there was ever such a list. For those that think Tray Deee is an incredible lyricist, post a memorable verse, because none come to mind. In the meantime, here's a list of artists that would, in a battle, embarrass Tray Deee (and people who think that he is an incredible lyricist):

Indeed, I was bout to say...and frankly, Tray Dee isn't really a lyricist, either. Dude ain't on any Cube/Pac shit, and he isn't exactly a storyteller or anything either.
He does, however, have a nice mackish voice and a good ability to shift his flow at ease much like Snoop. Long Beach niggas are probably the smoothest-flowing cats in the West.

exactly....I'm talkin strictly lyricism here....Tray Deee is average on the mic at best. Although this board's biased towards anything DPG related is on par with Fox News bias towards the Republican Party, which explains why people on this board think he's a GOAT MC.

plus the gangster persona is used well in his raps, that's basically all it is
he's got good presence tho, always makes the track that much harder when he's on it...
I wouldn't say lyrical beast tho, many people can do full songs better than he could

Lets get something straight:
I have never ever ever in my life said one thing about tray deee being a battle rapper or a lyricist. I could give a fuck about either. I said Tray Deee is a beast on the mic, and the best there is. There is a whole lot that goes into "the best there is" including, lyrics, flow, voice, charisma, mic presence, etc. Half those people in your list, I wouldn't listen to if my choices were them or Jessica Simspon.
So whatever it is you are out to prove, I don't care, I think your wrong. If EVERY SINGLE person on this forum voted your side, except for me, I would consider everysingle person on this forum wrong. Tray deee has never dropped a bad verse, and always makes a song better. He is the best there is, hands down.

Don't get me wrong, Tray Deee's a good rapper, however as a lyricist, he wouldn't be considered
To your credit, I will give you that Tray Deee is very charismatic, has a unique voice, and can flow, however when you compare subject matter, versatility, and writing ability he doesn't have shit on 85% of the rappers out. CPO Boss Hogg has a unique voice and flow, so does that make him a great lyricist?
Tray Deee has little versatility compared to many MC's. If I want a hot 16 about the streets of Long Beach and what happens there, then I'll holla at Tray Deee. Anything else, I'll look elsewhere.
On a side note, how much longer is he in prison?

And besides lyricism on these songs, tray deee also showcases so much more, he just takes over the songs, he is felt. So many of your rappers listed could never see tray deee on a song.

You are a joke with your list. The only thing I can think of is you don't know what good rap music is.
I'd rather listen to Tray Deee than some of the people on my list, but at the same time, there's only so much you can write about the ghetto before it gets repetative. Tray Deee is a good rapper, and if I'm in the mood for gangsta shit, I'll listen to a Tray Deee record...just like if I was in a pimpish mood, I'd put on a Too Short record
However. there is a HUGE difference between being a great lyricist and a great rapper, and while Tray Deee and Too Short are good rappers, they are FAR from being great lyricists. I'm not talking about rapping about Atkins or landscape, I'm talkin about using metaphors and wordplay in addition to rappin. If you knew anything about rap, you would know there's a big difference between someone rapping and throwing big words in there once in a while and rapping and being creative with wordplay (although there is some overkill on the usage of metaphors...Lloyd Banks is guilty of this sometimes).
Lemme put it like this, a lyricist has the versatility to rap about a bunch of different things, not just LBC gangsta shit. You can list every single tray Deee song and point to how much of a great rapper he is, but if you look at the subject matter, he's a one dimensional gangsta rapper that can flow and has charisma. He's talented at being a one dimensional gangsta rapper, however to say he's a great lyricist is absurd.

again, I never said tray deee is the best lyricist, I said he is the best rapper. How many times in this one thread do I need to point it out. Just because you are great with the lyrics does not mean that you are the best rapper. Sure Ras Kass uses tons of metaphors, and plays on words, and shit like that, but for the most part, his albums are boring. Ras Kass is way more of a lyricist than Pac, but Pac is a way better rapper, same goes for tray deee and many other rappers.

Too busy to give u more ,but you are tripping. Tray Deee is nice. Being good isn't all about Punchlines and hot 16's. It's about being successful at what you are trying to do. Tray Deee is a gangsta rapper who gives us the grim realities of his experience. His only weakness is that he doesn't vary his flow enough. But his rhymes are structured and he makes more than just one word rhyme...he uses alliteration a lot!

As for 'Tray Deee only spits gangsta shit', I'd like to mention 'Santa Claus is coming straight to the ghetto' where he definately doesn't spit a gangsta verse. The verse is dope anyways. Another possible mention could be 'The Wall' with RBX, but then I'm not certain if the song is about gangsta shit or not.

Tray Deee has a decent flow but it gets boring - he tends to use the same flow on most tracks. Lyrically he's not really saying much, the emphasis is on his flow and multi's rather than the actual content.

Tray Deee is a monster. Dude's flow is sick, he flips multi's as good as anyone, he's never dropped a wack verse and his delivery is top notch. He's not as good as Nas, Pac, Big or Scarface but he's closer to those guys then he is to Game, Papoose, Styles. etc.
West Coast rappers seeing Tray Deee are Sly Boogy, Crooked I, Ras Kass, Kam and Xzibit, that's pretty much it..

Problem vs the Hustla was problem one of the most original ideas ive ever heard...He battled himself and murdered both characters...wow...his first cd wasnt that great, but his 2nd was and anytime he features on tracks he kills it and same with his mixtapes, i gave tray dee all the respect in the world, but give these 2 a mic with no beat and tray and seein cassidy!

Too many people in this section (even those claiming to be a true hip-hop head) are too much of in awe of anything DPG related to see reality. The bias towards anything DPG related is extreme in this case because any true hip-hop head would tell you that Tray Deee, while a good rapper with charisma and flow, would be destroyed by real MC's. Crooked I would embarrass him. Ras Kass would embarass him. Buddens would embarass him (his flow may be boring and lacking charisma, HOWEVER dude has the versatility to do anything and excellent wordplay compared to Tray Deee). Cassidy would embarass him. Lady of Rage would embarass him. Jadakiss would destroy him? Would you like me to continue?
Anyone that REALLY knows hip-hop would know that as a lyricist, Tray Deee is nothing special. All these verses people have posted prove my pont. Most of his verses are repetative and one dimensional.

i can agree with that. Tray Dee always come nice and he gangsta, but there are better lyricists then him. he is one of my favorite rappers though, cuzz never comes wacc, and he has such a sicc voice, he keeps you hooked.

yeah thatīs true, Tray Deee is not the greatest lyricist, thereīs always better ones, but his style and flow is only seen in a few, cause itīs like dre says if you wanna be an artist you gotta have talent and style, not only one of em, and that what Tray Deee is, heīs not a 100% perfect lyricist but he got more flow and charisma then most "lyricist beasts", and for me itīs better like this.
