-In rap today, with literally thousands of releases each year, there's bound to be some copyright infrigements to be un-noticed. Well this one's a late bloomer, as the song has been released for over 7 months (March 20th, 2001). Platinum rapper Snoop Dogg has filed suit against Layzie Bone for copyright infrigement the over use of lyrics from Snoop's song "You Got Beef" which also contains rappers Tha Eastsidaz and Jayo Felony. Layzie Bone used elements, illegaly, of the song on his song "Battlefield" (From Thug By Nature), stating "If you got beef with B-O-N-E, then holler at me, Lil' Layzie", which is sung in tune and contains several similar words to Snoop Dogg and Tha Eastsidaz hit song. Apparently, Layzie Bone thought it would be allright to use elements of the song since Snoop Dogg was good friends with him (they have collobarated several times), but Snoop Dogg didn't feel the same way.

My Thoughts:
I bet in almost everyone of these cases that the artists attorney has something to do with this. How many times do we see Snoop bite rhymes or beats sampled? I myself believe this is false. If it's not false I would say it has to do with Snoop's attorney/label/management... if it is truly Snoop who decided to sue then all I have to say is that is the wrong move. Last year it was reported that Snoop sued Nas for using lyrics from Gin and Juice in Oochie Wally.... I never heard about it again and I haven't heard about a Nas/Snoop beef. Snoop was sued for using the Ghetto Symphony beat on his NLTD album... how many times has that song been sampled and then Marly Marl decides he is going to sue Snoop... Snoop later said it was a bitch move by Marly Marl to do something like that.... so if Snoop sues Layzie it's very hypocritical. Also, Layzie and Snoop seem to be real tight and I can't see Snoop suing him... Layzie was on the Doggy's Angels album and they seem to have a good vibe going on in the video...but who knows... I always believe management has something to do with moves like this, but if it's Snoop I gotta say..... stupid move. I almost wanna say it's TVT Records who is doing this... Snoop leaves them.... yet they have rights to "Got Beef" and they may seem like they were cheated so they decide to get back at him... and sue Layzie.... one of his homies.... who knows.

This could be a internet for all we know so instead of saying "FUCK SNOOP" right away we should chill and find more info. I highly doubt Snoop did this, but with the sales of music in general people may be getting desperate.
I think Layzie used elements from the song to pay respect to Snoop, he wasn't using them negatively. It is probably attorneys and shit but I'ma keep silent til we have more info.

Snoop Has No Relation To TVT Right Now, So If TVT Wanted To Sue Somebody, Snoop Wouldn't Be Able To do Anything About It. That's Like If Somebody Copyright Infringed on "Gin And Juice", Suge Could Sue THe Hell Out Of Em, Whether Snoop Wanted To Or Not.

Not to get too far off of the subject, but this kinda fits the topic of artists whom we thought were friends, but ended up fucking each other in the end.
November Issue of The Source, theres an article on Lil Troy from Houston. It goes on to read that he had a big hand in getting Scarface and Rap A Lot together and even recorded much of his early music which resulted in him landing a recording contract. Scarface sued him for some music that was used on Troys last album, and this all happened while Troy was in jail. How fucked up is that. It's really hard for me to believe that Scarface would sue Troy while hes in Jail over some old ass promo tracks. Makes you wonder if artists like Scarface and Snoop have to answer to their publishers more then we think. Maybe its their publisher thats behind all of this. I dont know. Just tossing out another example...
