In 1996, The Source ran a news article about MC Hammer signing with Death Row. It said his album would feature production from Dr Dre, Daz and DJ Quik. As far as I can tell without having any credits for this download, there's no sign of any of them on Too Tight, which was never officially released. I was still interested to hear it, only because I thought 1994's The Funky Headhunter was pretty good in a G-funky, trying-a-bit-too-hard kind of way. This, though, is grade-A crap.
1. "Intro"
Throughout the album, Hammer links the tracks with skits from M.O.B. Radio ("662 on your dial"), presumably to show Suge he's down with the Bloods. He says it stands for "Money, organisation, business" rather than "Money over bitches", though, because he's a pussy. N/A
2. "I Got U Bouncin'"
I hate the chanted choruses on this album and Hammer's lyrics are as bad as they've ever been, which isn't good when you consider he'd been at it for about a decade by the time he recorded this. The beat's one of the better ones on the album, but not to the point where you'd actually want to listen to it. 2/5
3. "Too Late Playa"
This is great. No idea who did the beat, but it's awesome. Big Daddy Kane murders a verse, 2Pac raps the same 'for the ladies' verse he did on every R&B-based song he made on Death Row, and Hammer drops some awful rhymes. Danny Boy's chorus steals the show. Best track here, hands down. 4/5
4. "The Beat"
Don't know why Hammer's dissing Too Short, but it's the most interesting thing about this song. The hook sounds retarded and Hammer brings along some no-name rappers to make it even more boring. 2/5
5. "Down In My Hood"
If you're going to make a rap song last for more than six minutes and it's not a posse cut, you'd better have a damn good reason. 1/5
6. "Props On The Spot [Skit]"
Another radio interlude. Hammer gives "props on the spot" to some people I've never heard of, as well as Mike Tyson and Eddie Murphy. N/A
7. "Get Up"
The funkiest beat on the album, and Hammer sounds like he might even be enjoying himself. Again, he tells Too Short they can have a scrap if he wants (he's clearly not letting this one go). 3/5
8. "Player Hater Of The Week [Skit]"
More radio talk. Hammer has a pop at that basketball player who said E-40 was shit. Someone should have told Hammer that 40 went at him pretty hard on "Record Haters", and didn't really need him mumbling some disses to back him up. I suppose the thought was there. N/A
9. "Town By The Bay"
Nice, mellow dedication to Oaktown. The beat is cool in that summertime, West Coast kind of way, and Hammer doesn't fuck it up too badly. No idea who the guests are, but they're not too bad either. 3/5
10. "Can You Feel It"
An eight minute Death Row posse cut that manages to get away with having none of the label's major stars on it, unless you count Kurupt, which I don't. Luniz, Mac Mall and Spice 1 all pop by as well. The beat's OK, but the song's just too long. Kurupt murders his verse, by the way. 2.5/5
11. "Hammertime Brings It"
A song about Hammer's concerts, based on "Hollywood Swingin'". Fuck off. 1/5
12. "Everybody Party Down"
This is the sound of a man who no longer knows how to party trying to make a song that he thinks people will want to party to. 1/5
13. "Free [Skit]"
Hammer shouts out everyone on Death Row, just in case you'd forgotten he's rolling with them after the startling lack of any of them on his album. N/A
14. "I Wish U Were Free"
I hate songs about homies in prison, and this is no exception. Some broad sings for half the track, only allowing Hammer to drop one verse. He still makes a dog's dinner of it, though. 1/5
15. "Tuesday Night [Skit]"
Hammer advises listeners to write a letter to a friend every Tuesday night. Fuck off. N/A
16. "Unconditional Love"
Hammer's take on the song 2Pac wrote for him. Considering that 2Pac actually recorded a version for Hammer to memorise, he does a remarkable job at desecrating the song. 1.5/5
OVERALL: 2/5
I'll tell you how shit this is. I put two new albums on my Mp3 player this week - this, and the second album by Linkin Park, because I'd burned a copy for my girlfriend's sister. On the way to and from work, I chose Linkin Park over Hammer nearly every time. Know what? They're better rappers too.

Hammer ruined this album with his nursery rhyming skills, Too Late Playa is easily the best track production wise and it's also the only track on which he comes off adequately (and by that I mean Hammer standards). This is only for collectors and core D.R. fans...

Nice review.. I'm still samplin some tracks and checkin your review...
but, no doubt.. Danny Boy steals the Show on this Too Late track... it's dope! But MC Hammer is wack on every track, including this one, Pac and Danny Boy save it, in my opinion. MC Hammer bastardizes 2pac's Unconditional Love track.. the MC Hammer version isn't even listenable, and I love the 2pac version!

LOL.. I like how you described this song.
You have to hold your breathe when Hammer comes in and hope he doesn't screw it up too bad.

I liked the cd and thought it could have dont well back in 96 or 97
