Banks was and is constantly spoke about as one of the best of all times
Andy Goram was the best goalkeeper that I have seen, though it was between him, Schmeichael, and Neville Southall for 5th place in my list
I assume that you will think that I am being biased with my rating of Goram, but you can't deny that he was an amazing talent and IMO the greatest goalkeeper that Scotland has ever produced (the only Scottish goalkeeper that was close from what i've seen was Ronnie Simpson which might come as a surprise)

No problem, i'm cool with Zoff too. He wasn't as spectacular as Buffon or Schmeichel, i've never seen him doing miracles. But he saved everything was possible to save, and that makes him a great GK. Never big mistakes. A great leader. The captain of the Italian national team who won the World Cup in 1982 (he played 2 WC Finals) and the European Championship in 1968, plus he was been the glorious captain of the glorious Juventus team.. the best team in the world at that moment, imo (8-9 players from the WC of 78 and 82. Just like Juventus from last year, with 9 WC finalists plus Ibrahimovic and Emerson in the top11).

Off course you can say that if you want, but remember this is a GREATEST OFF ALL TIMES list, so if you really feel Tony Adams is a top 5 defender off all times, put him in your top 5. But dont do it cuz your a supporter of Arsenal, cuz this isnt a favorites list ;)

To clarify, let's say I want to have players X, Y, and Z on the goat football team... but all 3 are known to have played mainly right-mid... could I place one at LM, one at CM, one at RM...? Cuz I know with the basketball polls... players would be voted for both SF/SG, or SG/PG, etc..

This is why I said at the start we should have a player for each sort of "role" rather than position.
i.e. holding mid, attacking mid, winger.
I have like 10 fantastic right wingers and am struggling to think of 5 who warrant a place in the GOAT team.
Personally I'd take my 2nd best right-winger and stick him out on the left.

There is a lot that played in England, its easier because our teams were more likely to play 'proper' left wingers in a 4-4-2 than other European teams. Going to be hard to get my list down to five though. A couple our obvious, but then after that there are a lot of players of similar ability.

To be honest, if you were to give him a position in THIS team it would be as a CM. That's just my opinion tho. I didn't think he was a left-winger, I don't consider him a centre-forward. I see him as a supporting/attacking midfielder.

i love man u but to be fair i have mainly included united players in 5th place basically as a mark of respect knowing that it wont influence the overall result, eg g neville at right back and irwin at left.
Your way wrong on england though, i dont see why i hate the majority of the players week in week out but when they throw on a england shirt i have to support them. Forget that United > England

Some people may have a problem with choosing my #1 at this position but it is because he could drift so effortlessly between positions that he could just as easily play here (and did play here) as he did in midifield or as a centre-forward.

its starting to drag a little, its gonna help sorting out who plays where but in all honesty that is gonna be pretty complicated. Im not sure what is the best way to go ahead with that.
An idea that we could have a poll or a list for players positions and based on highest vote we could choose them to be considered in that position only
This is where it becomes more difficult to do one of these for football than either basketball or American football due to football not having assigned positions (bar goalkeeper)
We could make the left and right midfield positions one vote due to the amount of left/right midfieldes having played both positions (though I think that this is less of a priority than assigning positions for certain players)
What players are we discussing? Maradona, Cruyff, M Laudrup, Best
