Go here to read the whole interview: http://www.spin.com/features/magazine/2007/07/0707_50cent/
What about the MCs -- Chamillionaire, Ghostface Killah, Master P -- who have said that they're not going to curse in their music anymore, in response to the post-Imus outcry?
None of those people sell records.
Chamillionaire sold more than a million records.
Let him go sell gospel records, if he's so fuckin' righteous. I can write around the curses if I want to, but you can't tell me to write around the curses. First of all, there's a clean version of the record available, anyway, if people don't want to hear that content. This is adult entertainment. Why is pornography legal? Wouldn't you say that the women who do pornography are hos? They get paid $1,000 to fuck on tape. You understand? And we can't say 'ho'? And who's the leading consumer for pussy on a tape? Middle-aged white men.
The peanut gallery: "White men, yeah. They buy all of it. They're spending way more."
These white men are buying the pussy from the hos because they aren't being sexually fulfilled by the women they have in their traditional lifestyle at home. And they go outside for the thrills without any attachment, so when they go home, there's no phone number or nobody calling who can ruin their fuckin' lives. So it's understandable why pornography is the way it is. But after all that, why is somebody worried about me saying 'ho'? I make up different terminology all the time. I made an effort to make a reference to a male organ without being disrespectful in a woman's presence on "Candy Shop." If you say "penis, cock, dick," whatever way you want to say it, that's going to be disrespectful in the presence of some women, so I said, "the magic stick" and "the candy shop" is the bedroom and the "amusement park" is the bedroom, trying to come up with a way to do it where you're not being disrespectful. But those efforts apparently don't mean very much.
So what do you really think about those guys who say they're not going to curse anymore?
They're just saying it. They're not going to really do it.
Yeah, it's hard to imagine Ghostface is going to stop cursing, especially considering his last couple of records.
The peanut gallery: "Nobody even cares what he does." "Who's listening to him, anyway?" "That was the '90s, B. Kids don't even know Ghostface anymore." "The streets are different now," says Yayo. "Guys like Ghostface don't matter. They don't. They had a run, but it's over."
But can't he just make a great record, even if it doesn't sell, and we can appreciate it as listeners, as hip-hop fans?
No, because a great record is embraced and enjoyed by the public. And it's played in cars and clubs.
What if it sells a couple hundred thousand copies, isn't that valid? Or does it have to sell millions for you to take it seriously?
In my camp, a couple hundred thousand records is a failure. From my perspective, if I sell 200,000 copies, after selling 12 million records, it's considered terrible.
But maybe he's trying to make a different kind of record?
What, the kind people don't buy?
No, one with incredible, detailed storytelling that's moving and powerful, and isn't dependent on some obvious hook.
Look, I understand all that. But if you're on a major record label, and he [Ghostface] is, and you sell a couple hundred thousand records, that was a failure. Your fuckin' photos and videos aren't recouped with 200,000 copies sold.
OK, but can you at least acknowledge that a commercial flop, like, say, [Ghostface's] Supreme Clientele, can still be an artistic achievement?
"He didn't even write that album, man," says Yayo, his eyes narrowing.
What?
Yayo: "He didn't write it. That kid from Far Rockaway -- Superb -- he wrote that record. You know Superb from Far Rock?"
No, and that's a pretty serious charge.
-
lmao @ 50's pathetic position. He has become the masses, instead of standing above them. What a pathetic show for an idol aka leader.
-
50 is normally smart in his interviews, but that was just fuckin retarded
-
someone is gonna get his jaw broken ;D
-
^lol anyways both yayo & 50 have rapped on 2 Wu-tang beats plus on 50's song "Too Hot" there's a Ghostface sample. Also there's a song off The Massacre that has the same beat as Ghostface's song. I think it was Metal Lungies. 1 last thing, on his (50's) song with UGK (as the worlf turns) he rapped something like "whoever's in the game for the fame gotta be a lame" or something like that. 50 lost.
-
Aw man, I can't wait to hear the Tony Stark/Carlton Fisk attack record.
And honestly, Ghost could kill 50, lyrically, even without cussing

LMAO.....
I don't really like 50 Cent or Yayo's music that much, but they really do have a point.
Ghostface ain't been relavent to anyone in the industry in quite sometime.
-
Who even care what 50 or any of his hangers on think?
Ghostface ain't been relavent to anyone in the industry in quite sometime.
Are you serious?! He made one of the best records of last year.
-
"Who's listening to him, anyway?" "That was the '90s, B. Kids don't even know Ghostface anymore." "The streets are different now," says Yayo. "Guys like Ghostface don't matter. They don't. They had a run, but it's over."
Yayo's right, Kids dont listen to Ghostface... Grown ups do... kids listen to Yayo.

I GUESS HE SHOULDNT HAVE PUT OUT PREDICATE FELON THEN.

and they took shots at chamillionaire as well (i believe same interview)
sad part is these 2 camps was fucking with eachother for a hot a minute, not 2 long...gunit and there ways :-\
-
50, Yayo, G-Unit...
:grumpy:
-
Post that what 50 said right after Yayo said Superb wrote that album too.. 'cause I think that actually shows it's true that Ghostface didn't write it.. 50 quikly went like "I don't know nothing about any of that. Let's say he's the writer, than still.." I think Yayo wasn't supposed to say that in public so 50 tried to cover it up because the people who told them that are probally people over at Universal so they don't want that info to come out in the news.
-
I've never been a Ghostface fan.....
No one that I know is ever buzzing about a Ghostface record (and we don't have the radios tuned in either, so it's not cuz he doesn't appeal to "most mainstream")..........
Does anyone have any update as to what Ghostface's last album sold?
It's been out for quite sometime now, so if he went Gold I'll take back the comment about him "not be relavent".
As poor as most artist's sales are doing these days, gold really = platnium now, so unless he did gold I really don't see him as having an impact on anyone but the "hip-hop heads" who never stopped claiming "hip-hop is dead" ever since they picked up Nas' latest release.
Then again.............I'm on the westcoast & that could be a specific reason why I never hear any kind of buzz about him around here.
Someone PLEASE prove me wrong about the nature of Ghostface in the hip-hop game today, because I don't like going against the majority too often, but this is just what I'm feeling right now.
-
Fuck them dudes...For real though I was holdin out hope for 50 to turn his shit around but dude is a straight lame, and the rest of his camp are just swingin from his dick.Lets compare a ghostface catalog Vs. a Yayo or a Banks...Lets be fuckin real.

I'm not saying Buck or Banks or anyone of them is a better lyricist or has better albums compared to Ghostface........simply because I haven't listened to a Buck album or a Banks album or a Yayo album yet that I didn't think was trash.
On the other hand, although I haven't listened to that many, I've never heard a Ghostface track that I liked either. :-X
-
For the person that wanend to know how much Supreme Clientele sold, the answer is 700,000+

Its all good,Diffrent strokes homie..but for them dudes ecspecially Yayo to diss a Vet in the game is crazy. Id rather be a "has-been" then a skidmark on the game like Yayo.
-
ghost could do some pop music like 50 cent but he chose to do that thug slanging criminal banging wu tang kung fu shit, you gotta respect that, just like the roots keep doing their jazzy-rap fusion that doesn't sell.

Damn. If that's the truth then I gotta take back my word against Ghostface.
If he has that many peeps supporting him, maybe he just needs a better promotion machine behind him.
I really heard little to nothing about his last album while it was in it's "prime market selling time", but I'm sure that means a ton of other people were just like me.
If he really did do 700,000 +, imagine what he could've done with some better decisions being made on the promotion end of things!

Yeah I know what you're sayin bro.
At the very least, at least Ghostface got the streets on his side, and he's been doing this for a long-ass minute already.
Yayo just lucky that Em decided to sport the "Free Yayo" shirts on TV, otherwise he'd be even less popular than he is now (if that's imaginable).

his last album wasnt supreme, was fishscale, it went gold or close to it and was one best released in 2006. shit supreme clientele is one of my favorite albums, i can't believe it was not ghost who wrote it, yayo is just talkin shit as usual. all i gotta say is:

LOL.... anybody got # of copies sold of "Fishscale" vs. "Predicate"?
-
I dunno how much Fishscale sold overall but I know it sold 110,000 in the first week. It prolly woulda sold more but TI dropped a album same time.
-
50 and yayo r wack
-
Fishscale did more than 200,000 with only 1 single. Look at the amount of Vids that Yayo had for his album & he only went gold plus he's on G-Unit

Have we all forgotten how Ghostface released two full-length studio albums last year? Fishscale in March, and More Fish in December? Promotion was just about none and the sales were likewise, but still, it's really Ghost's sixth official studio album. Selling about 36,000 copies in its first week, you may definately consider that weak.

Hmmm.....weak indeed. But maybe the promotion thing is truely what's holding him back?
-
On a side note, I really gotta nominate 1980DRE for best sig at the moment.
Somethin about a sexy-ass girl in a LA hat gets me everytime lol.

Well, that's evident, because the quality wasn't less than any other album. It's really odd how he did have a buzz before he dropped Fishscale, but most people weren't even aware that he was dropping More Fish so soon after. Ghost still has a respectable fanbase, so I find it hard to imagine this is to blame on anything but weak promotion. Still, what it does prove is that Ghost's name alone isn't enough to sell that easily.
You can point back at the statement 50 and Yayo made about him not being relevant because he doesn't sell like that... Thing is, perhaps the whole audience Ghost aims for shrunk that much. What's left of it is a dedicated audience, but it's nothing compared to the masses 50 moves. At the same time, without having his audience properly exposed to him in the media, 50 wouldn't go multi platinum either. That's pretty much case closed: rappers need the exposure to sell. Ghost didn't get the exposure he needed; naturally his decent album didn't sell at all.

50 and gayo are dumbass punks

So what your saying is going Gold or better yet Platinum = being relevent in music
When 50 drops classics like Fishscale and More Fish make sure to let me know but I think he may be too busy releasing 28 whack ass singles before his album hits the shelf.
Somehow I bet you got G Unit pillow cases....

As with the previous poster, go through the rest of the thread, not just my initial post......educate yourself about the reasons regarding my statement, and don't hurt yourself.
The other Ghostface fans understand where I'm coming from & have shown the level of their maturity by hearing what I had to say, and discussing it with me instead of coming at me like an illiterate dick that's just waiting to get embarassed. I'm sure if you had bothered to take the minute & a half to read through this thread in it's entirety, you would understand as well.
Now........please continue this discussion ;)
