Title: Snoop Dogg- Round Here
Post by: d-nice on August 28, 2007, 07:46:37 AM
Man at first I will admit I was clowning this song for the Stan/Dido sample. But the more I have played it, it is becoming one of my favorite songs on BCT. Dre made that song have a real sinister, hood sound to it. And that bassline will rattle the shit out of a system. Snoop had a more laid back flow but lyrically it fit well. But Dre did his thing with that beat.

Yea its easily one of the top 3 tracks on the album for me...if you hear it on a proper system it sounds so atmospheric, really dope track!

Same here. I really did not pay much attention to it when I would listen to it at home, but I started bumping it in the ride and was blown away by it. Especially with Dre's involvement on it. Adding the piano keys and a booming bassline. He really made that track hood on there. I was hoping it would be a single but he probably would have got alot of flack for it. Dre's attention to detail is crazy.

imo this song hasn't even a real bassline. this are just two tones. Listen to "Boss' Life", THAT'S a bass line. "Round Here" is average imo, nothing special.

Well reverb whatever you want to call it, it knocks in a system. The bassline during the song is faint but it still hits, but during the chorus it really rumbles. Boss' Life has a nice one also.

When I heard that Snoop was going to shoot a video for Round Here, I couldn't wait to see it, but then he chose Boss Life as the next single. :'(
I could imagine a great video for Round Here, it really sounds so atmospheric, Dre created a crazy-ass beat.
Gotta be my favorite track of TBCT.

One of the better track yeah. See when Snoop sticks to beats like this or gfunk or straight up funk thats when he's at his best. When he starts doing beats with Pharrell thats when i give up on him.

the 'ooo-oo-ooos' during the chorus are the fucking SHIT. They're subtle, but once you hear them you will never doubt the song again.

For me, it's the added sounds from Dre that make this stick out. The added bass and piano give the song a completely different sound than when Dido or Em rocked it. It almost makes it errie. I pick up different elments of the song each time I listen to it. Like Dre used similar organ sound at the beginning of the song that was used on Murder Was The Case. If you listen to it right after Snoop does the chorus.

I always loved that track. Dre used that sample way better than The 45 King & Em did on "Stan". The additions he made really compliment it.

It is great indeed, though a bit more energy from Snoop would have been welcome.

It would truly have made for a good, atmospheric video. I can imagine a dark video, film noir style, with Snoop walking/driving down Longbeach past gang violence in dark alleys and with perhaps a choir singing or humming during the chorus...and lots of flashes of violence happening.

Alas!

Yeah it has nice bass also. The last Snoop album that sounded crisp and clear like that is Tha Last Meal for me. That album is a sound system's dream.

Yeah , even if his latest work has been average for his standards , Dre beats sound clean , it's amazing ... contrary, for example, to a Just Blaze beat which sounds horrible if u bump it loud , even in a very good system

Yeah lyrically Snoop has some nice rhymes but it is with a more laid back flow. I think if it was rapped with more aggression it might have changed the mood of the track. The flow fits the beat IMO. Melodic yet gangsta as fuck at the same time. Dre did the damn thing production wise.

No doubt. I really did not listen in depth on the album too much until lately. 1st half of the album is dope, a little bit of filler towards the end but overall I thought Snoop put together a good album.

Its just the looped guitar part that kick off Dido's and Em's song that quickly remind you of it for me at least. Dre added enough elements to the track to make it something completely different now that I have listened to it a thousand times.  ;D

The added claps, piano keys, organs, bass, all make it super hood and melodic. I can see how Snoop would say when he first heard it, he did not think of Stan when he first heard it, but come on, he knew WHERE that sample came from. That was the part that had me rolling. So Dre used it and flipped it into something different. It's all good, because Dre did a hell of a job with this track. It is not their best collabo, but it is still dope as fuck to me.

I've been saying for a while now that if snoop took the best worst 8 tracks off of each of his post doggystyle albums he'd have almost pure classics in his discography. Cause it's not like there's not 12 or 13 really good songs on most of his records, it's that most of those records have like 21 songs, 8 of which are garbage.

If he just picked the best 13 tracks for each record he'd have such an amazing discography. You'd think that compilations/greatest hits could fix that but they don't because the companies that make them only compile the singles and ridiculously famous songs.

and of course he CAN'T trim the records like that because

a)he has to collaborate with alot of people to keep all his industry ties straight

b)he has a very diverse fanbase to appease to he tries to put something for everyone on the record

Very good point Tanj. Maybe with Ego Tripping he can have a classic album like that. If he did it Black Album style like Jay-Z did. 1 producer for each track. Maybe a little something like this

Producers

Dre
Quik
Fred Wreck
Battlecat
Mel-Man
Terrace Martin
Pooh
Pharrell
Timbo
JR Rotem
EP Pope

Daz, etc (all the other producers he has worked with, but they could only do 1 track)

black album has a different producer for each track? that's cool.

Hm, I doubt Dre will work on Snoop's next album. He seems to drop a few tracks once every three records unfortunately. I wonder what the fuck Quincy Jones was doing when he was Dre's current age and I wonder if it involved RELEASING MATERIAL.

Yeah the black album was made like that. He has worked with easily 13-17 producers, dope ones to pull something like that off. I would only have people do hooks though. If not he can do them himself. I think Dre would do it, hell he might mix and master it too.

in my opinion Snoop should work with people that makes him sound great (at his best)

Dj Premier
Hi Tek
Soopafly
Fredwreck
Scott Storch
Terrace Martin
Lt Hutton

I didnt mention Dr.Dre because ..hmm fuck dre for now, but Snoop should stick to those and u know instead of getting Neyo or Brtiney he should get Raphael Saadiq or Angie Stone

oh and if Snoop makes more track like this one http://www.zshare.net/download/33914040272d9e/  I'll buy his record for sure

It is the first track on Welcome 2 Tha Chuuch compilation.

Hercy, I am just lazy because Snoop has worked with SOOOOO many producers I don't either remember them or my hand started cramping on me typing them all.  ;D But yeah on BCT I really did not have any complaints on the beats. But definitely he should pick the best people to work with. Now if Dre is on board, cool, if not, cool. But I would want him to be on board because if Snoop can pull this off, it would be really rare in music right now.

Yeah it sounded like the 2nd half of BCT it was rushed or he just threw a bunch of tracks on there. It had no sequence to it like the first half. The first 12 or 13 tracks are bangin but after that I skip all over the rest. Just a couple tracks here and there like Imagine and a few more I will play.

i can't believe i didn't like it at first.

i don't agree with people saying that Dre is way past his prime: i still like his old stuff, but compare it with the new stuff and you can hear the growth.
plus, he didn't suddenly lose his ability to coach.

by the way, it's kind of strange that Dre will never listen to Round here, for example

he stated a few times that he doesn't like listening to his old stuff + a song is played out for him after it has been made ( if i'm not mistaken).
so i think he only gets to hear it when someone else is playing it
