Yeah that shit bangs in a system. I have never been a big fan of RBX's selection of beats though. I always wanted Daz or Fred Wreck to do some beats for him.

What? You don´t like Greg Royal and Polarbear´s beats?

I jacked this from Z the laidback Virus who posted this video a couple of weeks ago

RBX "Overdue" Video
http://www.youtube.com/v/0K6sUqrDvAI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0K6sUqrDvAI
It's apparently produced by Snoop, who's laced his cousin with a dark beat. I'm not yet sure if I like the track but I have however decided that the video is extremely low budget and that they shouldn't have tried to make things eery by use of smoke and fire. See for yourself.

I don't think X has worked with Greg in a long time. I love Greg's beats though.

Some are ok. For me, the beats for RBX are either really dope or really bad for some reason.

Oh that Legend of Jimmy Bones is the shit. Definitely would like to see x work more with Fred Wreck in the future. I liked the beats on X's first album but the 2nd was hit and miss and the one on Daz's label was a little better but also consistent IMO. I am bumping his new one right now and the beats fit his style more on this one.

Legend of Jimmy Bones is tight,if the album with Ren sound anything like that, shit is going to be tight. The track they did on "Ruthless for Life" was terrible,so it can be a hit and miss project. They need some hard beats, they don´t fit over g-funk beats. As for rating the RBX albums, the first one is clearly the best. I actually like think the 2nd is pretty consistent too,the next two was in my opinion all over the place, but I still enjoy them.

I never understood why more artists especially in the DPGC camp do not have Fred Wreck do more beats. But yeah Ren and X definitely need some hard hitting beats. I always liked the combo of X and E White also. Although no one will confirm whether or not a duo album was done on Doggystyle.

Yeah,that´s strange. I had a quick chat with him around the time he was working on The Atoms,everything looked good around then as far as working with the DPGC camp. But that never materalized,so I wonder if the beats for that project ended up on the Bones OST? Didn´t E-White and X only have one duo track? As far as I remember they never recorded anything....wait.... I have pretty good memory,here´s the E-White interview;

E-WHITE  (December 2003) | Interview By: Nima

Quote
dubcnn.com: We heard you and RBX are a group “Black & Blue” can you tell us about that project?

I wasn’t really down with the group album, not necessarily because it’s with RBX, I’m not with a group album with nobody, to make my entrance in this game, whoever can’t understand that, just can’t understand that, I’ll do what I got to do to come out solo, to start my career, I don’t need to have a parent helping me, feeling like they got to break my record, we got to go pay a gang for a bunch of features, paying full price for a heavy hitting beat, I got relationships with hard hitting producers, that reach out to me and make me aspire to keep on doing what I’m doing, come down to get down, holla, I’m working with you.

dubcnn.com: How could they talk about the project if you weren’t with it from the beginning?

You know how it is, I guess sometimes, when your not on the best communication terms, with all people involved in the project, then some things get misconstrued, or a piece might be missing, one person may think this is happening and then another person is under a completely different assumption, and it’s not like one particular person to blame, but we all need to be under some kind of communication, where this type of loophole, isn’t going down, and I’m always going to stand up for what I believe in, number one I remain as humble as possible, in all aspects because this is something that is very serious, and if you ever speak your mind and your opinion and how you feel and what you seen and been through, in the time that we live in, I don’t worry about how good or bad the money may be, I stay focused and I know that I’m blessed, You know out of all the minorities coming up and to be heard by millions is a blessing I stay hooked on that and I stay knowing that, two years ago I didn’t have the opportunity to expand on the situations, but like I said I feel strongly in what I believe, I got a whole lot to say I’m not no straight chicken right here, I’m a full grown man I’ve lived I’ve experienced, I’ve been nothing, I’ve been the shit I’ve been shit, I’m ready to speak, I’m ready to live it, I’m ready to testify to that.

dubcnn.com: So there is no group album happening right?

Not at all, their might be a group but it won’t involve me.

Here´s a little odd RBX track, this might be a little too odd for some of you.

It's all good. I started getting into Korn's music and decided to give it a spin. A couple cool tracks but it just was not my style.

Well these beats are not quite on the level of his DR stuff but most are decent.

I assume his Death Row work was more in the line of DIRECTION producing and maybe bringing in samples rather than actually doing the BEATS himself.

Exactly.

I like his stuff from a lyrics standpoint. Sometimes he does recycle to death but alot of artists do. His new one is starting to grow on me a little bit now that I have listened to it a couple times all the way through.

WOW,not sure how to rate his discogs.
I know that I consider his first a personal classic.
Love his 2nd album too so it get´s regular spins too, after that I find his albums inconsistent,
but I give them a spin every now and then to see if I they have grown on me.
So got to rate them all together as a "third" album.
I will burn a cd with the tracks that I feel, maybe the album will be easier for me to digest.
In the in the interview he did with Matt Sonzala on
Damage Control radio
http://houstonsoreal.blogspot.com/2007/02/rbx-ms-hawk-and-more-on-damage.html
a couple of months ago he said he just recorded a couple of tracks with Rob Quest of Odd Squad/Coughee Brothaz, wonder where those tracks will end up? A interesting combo, maybe Devin is on some of those tracks?

RBX and Rob Quest of Odd Squad/Coughee Brothaz;

The 2nd one is cool, it's like 2 albums put together into 1, but so far I like this one a little bit more.

Yeah,I just did a quick run down, you can do a new thread with a "real" breakdown review of the albums,
I love those threads especially if your tag team partner Tanji join in.  :D
In here you can just rank them with a quick breakdown when you have gone trough The Shining.

LOL, You may have to be his replacement since he did not answer my Daz thread  ;D. I'm working on a Cypress Hill one being that is one of my favorite groups. But yeah it's cool to do them if they have a extensive catalogue, 4 albums at least.

Ha,ha I could go harder on the Daz thread, but I have to re-listen to his catalog to come correct.
Those comments I made in that thread was from top of head, because the three albums I mentioned is the ones I listen to regulary. By the way could you zip up the new one pluss gangster crunk for me?
I don´t really follow Cypress Hill,I kind of hated on them for a long time.
I found B-Real voice really annoying,
but he wrecked the track he was featured on Soopafly´s last album so I have opened up to him (them) a little bit now.

Yeah I could have also but it was off the top of the head also. My Cypress one will be deeper than that. Yeah I can get you those Daz albums no problem. Yeah B-Real's voice does annoy most, but that for me is what made him SO different. You can't say there is a mc that sounds like him. That makes him unique IMO and it does not hurt that he got serious skills that are slept on. My homeboy met B and was saying he kicked a freestyle with a normal voice and it was ill. But he wanted to separate himself from other rappers so he kicked the nasal flow and it stuck. That and Muggs is my favorite producer.

Man I remember Cube said something to the effect of that on King Of The Hill. The funny thing is before the beef they were mad tight. Muggs co-executive produced the Predator. Cube LOVED they style. He liked that dark production from Muggs, he wanted at least 3 beats that ended up being on Black Sunday. Yeah B's flow you either dig it or hate it, but they are legends IMO. Trendsetters. But I ain't trying to convert anyobdy, I always say you like what you like. If ya got a open ear, check it out.

You know me I ain´t a dick, you´re right Cube was a FAN of them before he dissed them.
His predator album got that flavor mixed up with Das Fx,I will save the Cube critic to a future thread.
I ain´t frontin they´re legends, shame on me but I don´t own any of their albums.
So you got to hook me up if I´m you want me to give my honest opinion on their work.
I will keep a open mind when I listen to their discogs.  :D

My bad, I hope I did not come off like I was saying you had to listen to them. I got a Cube review in me also. 2 of my favorites along with Nas, Pac and Scarface.

anyway, i like RBX's flow, even though i don't really like any RBX album( not that they are bad, they actually have some very good songs on it, it's just that the albums aren't very consistent imo), but the features he did on the chronic, doggystyle, the marshall mathers lp and some other albums are very good  8) but i guess you're right tusken, when you say that the dark beats on the RBX files fit RBX very well(i'm kinda suprised that Daz hasn't really produced anything on any RBX album if i remember correctly).

I don't have the credits by me but I know Daz did the Murda beat on Ripp The Game and Soopafly did the Tell It Like It Is remix. That Sherm album was the shit.

They only credit Mike Dean for the Murda track on Sherm´s album.
There´s no credits in the booklet, just checked and there´s no Daz beats on The Shining either.

I thought the name of the track was Jus...Murda or something like that on Ripp The Game. I think Daz did the beat on that and I know he rapped on it. I don't know about the Sherm track though.

The track appears on both albums,it´s called something else on the Sherm album but it´s the same track.
Yes,Daz appears on it but according to the credits in the Sherm Smoke booklet it only credits Mike Dean.

Hmm, never noticed that.

Ha,ha it´s all good again I bought a album because RBX was featured.
Ripp the game bloody came out like a half year or year later, anyway Just Murda is HARD.
Must be one the hardest tracks I´ve ever heard,RBX killed the track.
You´ll probably end up listening to the Sherm Smoke album today/tonight just because of this convo, damn I might too.
18 Jus... Murda.m4a Sherm,Daz and RBX   BEWARE!!! it´s some hardcore shit!

You read my mind on that, I am definitely going to put both on to check it out. Sherm was on Mike Dean's label, Dean's List but I have not heard anything from them in a minute.

Sherm was on Mike Dean's label,Dean's List but I have not heard anything from them in a minute.

Sherm had a strange style, well that´s make him unique, but I seem to remember that I couldn´t really get into him.
Dean´s list only released the Sherm album right? If not I´ve missed the other releases and need a hook up asap.
Either way I think he´s better off being a in house producer for Rap-A-Lot,at least in today´s climate.

Yeah his style is not for everyone. His album was the only one from his label, unless Tonya Herron released something I am not aware of. Mike will always be RAL, he is their chief producer and engineer, he mixes all their albums. I just think he wanted his own side deal and label situation. If he does not mind doing it indie I say go for it.

damn, couldn't find that RBX track "please believe lights out", seems like i need to get that videogame and rip the audio track from it(which shouldn't be a problem)

but i have to admit that some tracks from the RBX files have grown on me (A.W.O.L. , the remix, slip into longbeach The edge--> sounds like a deep cover part II lite, feathers in the wind, our time is now. i already liked sounds of reality and rough is the texture, great songs)

i guess i was disappointed when i first listened to the RBX files ( had high expectations from him, after hearing some of his guest appearances), but the rbx files is certainly the best RBX album imo.

yeah i guess you're right. you mentioned MC Ren; i also experienced something similar as you when i first heard his solowork  ;)

the same thing will probably happen with detox if it is going to be released ( for example, i expect an album with the rating 8 out of 10; depending on the musical direction that dre took with it, i may give it a 5 or a 6 out of 10 at first, but hopefully it will grow on me , so i'll eventually rate it 7 out of 10, or even higher).

it's good to see that some ppl participate constructively to the discussion, i hate it when ppl go nuts when somebody has a different opinion about a specific artist/album.

RBX got alot of dope material, but then again he got more wack shit then dope. His verse on "Don't Sweat It" was one of the best verses on "Cali Iz Active".

Fuck what they said and fuck what you heard

Act like you know us, I know you do
Back, all in your face like BOO~!
The iller killer like Thrilla in Manilla
The D-Roc keep snow like caterpillar

"Anybody killa" mean everybody DEAD
Get that, for what it's worth
Big guns, big funds represent this turf (L.B.C.)
Some scream the West but don't rep it right
So when it's time to step they come steppin light
If they step at all, pow

A dope RBX feature on Rage´s street album/mixtape

So what do you think of the Rage mix-tape?
"The West needs me" is soooooo dope.... Damn Rage kills that track and the beat is  :firedevil: :firedevil: :firedevil:
Can´t remember "Notorious DPG",is that on the "official" Welcome To The Chuuch or on one of the mix-tapes?
I got a burnt copy of it laying around somewhere, but never bothered to buy a retail version of it.....
RBX is on the track?....maybe I should go and look for my burnt cd then.  :D

That mixtape was insane. Yeah that Notorious DPG is on that WTTC Tha album and it's Kurupt, RBX and Rage.

So what do you think of the Rage mix-tape?
imo The Lady of Rage is the dopest female MC, and she's a lot better than most male rappers. i see her as the female version of the old "D.O.C." ( no disrespect to the D.O.C. but i referred to the old one, because his style back then looks similar to Rage')

str8 outta VA is my favorite track from that mixtape, too bad it's only one verse.

by the way, check your inbox chad  ;)

If you notice the review is better than the rating.
I believe the rating is a collective decision,so if the writer alone could rate it I believe he would have given it a 4.
It´s a little hard album to rate, the lyrics went over peoples head and the production was more early 90´s gangster than 95´s g-funk.
I will post a review Rap Pages did of this album next month....
By the way I posted a DPG interview you might want to check out in the g-spot for HighEyeCue.

I hate that shit with The Source. You read the review and look at the rating and the shit don't match.

Hmmm,it´s cool.... but it´s not memorable,so that´s probably why I had overlooked/forgot about it.
But I have beamed it over to my cell so it will be in rotation a couple of months,so it might grow on me.
Not memorable like you say. I was anticipating this song a lot when the Welcome Album tracklist came out but this Battlecat beat is pretty boring...

Personally, I was disappointed when I first heard the track and I still don't like it. RBX is sub-par and Kurupt is indeed all over the place. The beat isn't all that either: If that's representative for what they cook up together, Battlecat and Joseph Leimberg would do better to appreciate each other's style but not try to blend the two.

Nice info,so what style did they go for on Concret Criminals?
Gangster or Political?

not sure, but they definately won't make murder these murderers type of music  ;)

Why not?
I would love to hear a Ren verse on that track, not sure if RBX would fit the beat though.  :-\
But as far as the content of Kam´s lyrics, which is a mix of gangster and politcal shit,
that´s basicilly the same type of shit Ren and RBX usually spit.
So I could easily see them dropping some "street politics" shit like "Murder Dem Murderers".  ;)
But I hope they put some work into it and maybe have a theme going through the album.

Kam's shit was quite "shocking", i don't think RBX and Ren would dare to go that far.
sure RBX and Ren spit raw shit too, but not so political.

the fuck the industry attitude will probably be there though  :D

what about the producers? an RBX & Ren collabo sounds nice, but they could fuck it up if they use a lot of mailed beats from different producers you know  :P

You don´t think so?
What do they got to loose?      :P :P
I don´t see this album doing any serious numbers.... so fuck it,they just go all out.
Ren´s lyrics on "Shock of the hour" and RBX´s on "The RBX-Files" was pretty radical, don´t you think?
That´s the type of shit I hope they got cooking for us.
like i said, RBX and MC Ren both spit raw shit, but's been a while since shock of the hour, the villain in black and the RBX files
perhaps i'm a little biased, since i've listened to murder these murderers so many times  :P Kam might have blown me away with his agression

i'm really looking forward to this though  ;)

The Fieldy's Dreams project was cool,so why not.  ;)

dope track  :) i don't really like the fact that Big Rocc is involved too, i wouldn't mind if the concrete criminals would just consist of RBX & MC Ren.

 :P

Big Rocc ain´t that bad,it´s just that he don´t have a distinctive voice and flow like RBX and Ren have.
His flow can even at times sound like Ren´s,just check his verse on;
Above The Law; In God We Trust
16 In God We Trust.m4a

from
Above The Law´s; Legends
(http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41171R49A3L._AA240_.jpg)

What worries me more now is that Concrete Criminals ain´t really a group project like WSC was.
Why ain´t Ren on the track?
How come the track is tagged RBX featuring Big Rocc?
Not Concrete Criminals? The name sucks :P :-X :-\ but.....?

i see your point, but like i said, i would rather only have Ren & RBX in the concrete criminals group

anyway, yeah Ren was shouted out, but he ain't on the track  :-\
so i assume that Ren will only be a featured on some tracks?  >:(

as far as the tag information; well sometimes the tag information on myspace is incorrect, so i guess we should blame the ones that run the pages ( big rocc's page also contained incorrect tags for example).

True,but we ain´t their A&R´s  :P,so...  :P
If I was their A&R I would get Kam to join them and have Paris to produce the whole thing.  :P ;)
offcourse we're not; we're discussing opinions  ;)

another wasted project  >:( >:( >:(
well it's still too early to tell offcourse
but yeah, it was supposed to be a group album, MC Ren and RBX as the concrete criminals  >:(

Big Rocc might suprise us,so lets see how this plays out  ;)

sure, but he better not imitate Ren too much

thanks for posting that recent interview up Chad. I was just about to ask in this thread how it was that RBX hooked up with the death row camp, good interview. i always hear some people say that RBX isn't snoop's cousin after all, but i suppose it's true. can't wait for the concrete criminals shit to drop.

there's a new concrete criminals track on RBX's myspace; i don't really like it  :-\
again, no verse by MC Ren  >:(

seems like our concerns were not that far fetched Chad  :P

I didn't know RBX was Bootsy Collin's son, that makes BC Snoop's Uncle, so let me get this straight: Snoop gots in his family RBX, Bootsy Collins, Nate Dogg, Daz Dillinger, Ray-J, Brandy, Pretty Tony...
That's some talented people!

BTW RBX is a good rapper, too bad he didn't encoutered the success up to his skills

there's a new Concrete Criminals track on the myspace page called framework; this is more like it ( let's forget about that last one)  8)
once again no MC Ren verse though  :-\

anyway let's hope that the album will be full of tracks like The Reign & Framework  ;)

Where in the fuck is Ren?
Skip this project until you get Ren along on all your tracks!!!!
For now you can either replace one of the verses with Ren (when he bothers to record a verse or two  :-\ :P)
or just put these tracks on your solo projects.
Ren and RBX teaming up together was a dream collabo come true for many fans,
sure many of us (the fans) would rather have Paris,Kam and/or CPO than Big Rocc to join Concrete Criminals.
RBX and Ren was the most important in-degrents,so fuck it....
but with Ren MIA this is just a RBX presents "his friends" project.....  :P :-\

yeah it's a huge disappointment, i guess you need to lower your expectations  for this ;)

anyway thought Big Rocc did his thing  ;)
so if he keeps coming with such performances, i won't complain  ;)

Big Rocc ain´t bad, just sounds like a carbon copy of Ren (like Mack 10 is to Cube).  :P
I can live with Big Rocc on the project but as I said I would rather have Paris,Kam and/CPO to take his place.
Now that Ren is MIA,what´s left?
RBX and a carbon copy?  :P
I want the real deal, not someone who sounds like the one we're supposed to hear..  :P
Something got to be wrong with Ren.(?)  :-\ he takes that "fuck the system" thing too serious.  :P :-[

lol yeah i see your point and i mostly agree with you  ;)

i don't know why i'm not as disappointed as you; perhaps it's because i didn't believe in it from the start  :P
i remember reading about the concrete criminals project for the first time ( that it was supposed to be Ren & RBX) and thinking "yeah right"  :P

im pretty dissapointed . i hate it when artists do that...especially in groups . like a bonethugs featuring, but realli it might only be one or two of em

On a more positive note, altough Ren ain't on the new Concrete Criminals either the track (Frameworks) is pretty good.
Big Rocc comes real tight,he stepped up his flow on this one.
But it's the third rapper that impresses me the most.
Who is it?
He sounds like CPO at first, then he sounds like Short Khop, then Kokane  :P
It´s not CPO or Kokane,he only sounds like them in parts of the track.... it could Short Khop though. (?)

doesn't sound like Short Khop to me  :P
RBX drops a few names towards the end ( including his own), so maybe you should re-listen to that ;)

anyway, see, i told you, when looking at it from a different point of view, the project can still be interesting  ;)

Is it this cat;  (I got his album, maybe I should re-listen to it?)
http://www.dubcnn.com/connect/index.php?topic=128014.0

it could be him, i don't know Bookie Loc  ;)
as far as the name is concerned, maybe it reminded you of Bam Locc, which was featured on a track with Big Rocc?

Yes it can still be a interesting project but not what I pictured and/or hoped for.  :-\
i understand  ;)
