so i got my new Sony 40" LCD (full hd 1080p) two sundays ago.. i traded in my settop box for a HD one last thursday, but Time Warner fuckers forgot to give me the component cables... so just today i went back and got the cables, and im back in the HD experience. haha. shits fucking great. Discovery channel and weed ... oh yeah.
I'm wondering if i should get HDMI cables though... i can get one off ebay for a pretty good price compared to Best Buy, circuit city, etc. But I dont know if its going to make a big difference with a hd cable box.. i think its only maximized with stuff like xbox 360/ps3/blu ray? and cable dont even handle 1080p..
I had my own 51" sony hdtv in college so i was pretty lucky, but my parents didnt know about it, so when i moved outta school, i had to sell that tv quick.
i specificially waited out on playing the wii and ps2 until i got a bigger tv (after the 51", i went down to a 20" Sony tube, and then finally like a 15" Sharp LCD Aquos).. I had god of war 2 for like 6 months or something, and i just started playing it this week finally. I played the first one through on my 51", and it was fuckin amazin, so i knew i had to wait it out, a 15" tv wouldnt do the sequel justice. and I still have Super Paper Mario and Metroid Wii sealed, both of which i bought on release date.
any tv techs up in here? Wondering what a good set up would be.. I need to get some Surround sound too.

Dude HDMI cables are a must to get a true 1080p signal. My set is a 720p but I use HDMI for my Directv, and 360.

fuck i thought this was thread on the new upcoming EPMD album.

yup, if you want the FULL HD you need the HDMI cables.

yeah the thing is, I dont think Time Warner cable box is capable of receiving 1080p though. DirecTv is satellite right? How do i go about figuring out the resolution for the cable box?
If your set is 720P , does it upconvert the DirecTv signals to 1080i?
And I dont have PS3, 360 or blu ray yet. but i plan on buying at least one of them in the future.

cable box is 1080i but your TV will upscale the picture to 1080p.
Get HDMI. It's better quality than Component.

no. Component can handle 1080p just fine. HDMI has a little better quality since it's digital but it isn't some crazy difference. Hell I got my Xbox 360 hooked up to a Samsung TrueSync monitor and it looks fucking great with a VGA cord.
-
do you have a brand of HDMI cables that you recommend, I saw monster had 600, 800, 1000. and I saw Dynex too. But i had some pretty crap experiences with their ipod products.. and dynex is significantly cheaper..

Don't matter really. Pick up cheap HDMI cables off of ebay. Monster cables are a JOKE.

yeah, i hear ya, it will still look fresh, cause its still 1080, but to get the FULL hd experience, you need HDMI cables.

Get HDMI undoubtedly. You got 1080p, you might as well not bullshit and get optimum connections even though most shit isn't fuckin w/ 1080p yet anyway.

Exactly. I spent a gwop on my HD set, so I will wait and probably get a 42" 1080p set for my bedroom. No rush, since 1080p resolution isn't being used that much yet.

360 does use it but no game iirc natively displays in 1080p it's all upscaled (still looks great though)

That website has really good deals on HDMI cables
http://www.Amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000E8OVN0/ref=ord_cart_shr/002-4234636-4215254?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=A3VODXGBJ323R7&v=glance
here is another good deal from Amazon
I need to get HDMI cables myself, just been lazy. I also wondered how much of a difference they make. Also, I have a DVD player that can do 1080 quality, and so can my TV, is the only way to get that quality tho is to buy a HD DVD? Because I don't own any HD DVD's and the dvd player never lets me change past 480, or whatever the lowest setting is
-
oh yeah, whatever you do, don't buy the cables from Best Buy, circuit city, etc...total ripoff.
-
there are sites that sell 10 inch HDMI cables for like 8 bucks. They're real cheap.

you just need a HD set top box, and the cable company should suply u with components. since urs is only HD ready, its prob not 1080p.

if you have a ps3, get HDMI cables if your TV supports it. but thats about the only thing you need.

While we're on the topic of tv's, I have a 62" Mitsubishi DLP 1080p. I'm wondering about the HDMI cables as well, but not sure the differences between all of them.
Here's a pic of my tv:
and here's a few of the tech details about my tv:
Composite AV (RCA): 3 in (1 front), 1 out
S-Video: 3 in (1 front)
Component Video: 3 in
HDMI: 2 in
RF: 2 in
DVI audio: 2 in
Analog audio ouput: 1
Digital audio output: 1 (Coaxial)
Firewire: 2
Can someone help me out with some direct links or whatever and tell me exactly what cord/s I need, and how many for the best HDMI viewing expereince? Thanks!
-
Listen homies go to Frys and go to the computer sections they will have some off brand name HDMI cables for like $14. they are all the same and its a must to get the HDMI cable to get the true signal to your TV.

but like some of the links that were posted above were for like only $4. I'm just not sure exactly what type to get (not the actual brand, but the type of HDMI is what I'm looking for).

plasama is still better than lcd right?
-
Shut upppp, that tv's fuckin dope man, 1080p is the fuck shit man, i csaw thatr shit at the sony store and they had spider man 3 and u could see like every thread sewn on his fuckin custome man, it was fuckin dope!!!
-
plasama is still better than lcd right?
uhm yeah a good amount of times its better.. like the blacks are a lot darker, but the life of a plasma tv is much shorter, and theres much more risk involved with plasmas (IE. screen burn in)
-
The TV i used for the past 1.5 years, a 15" Sharp Aquos LCD
(http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/7017/img0446wh9.jpg)
the tv i have now, Sony kdl-40v3000. 40" 1080p

-
I"m really feelin that 40" Justin. Good shit bro!
-
are you watching any HD movies yet and so what format are u using HD DVD or Blu Ray?
-
actually new plasma's don't have the burn in problem anymore. All plasma tv's come equipped w/ a screen saver type feature that basically erases the burn in. So say you watch ESPN all the time, and you get the burn in of the scrolling sports ticker at the bottom of the screen, you just run the eraser option on the tv and it will clear it up. The only drawback of the plasma's nowadays is the lifespan of the gases in the TV.
-

I havent been watching any hd movies yet.. i myself am not sure whether to roll with HD DVD or Blu Ray. Im not a movie fan at all, so it really hasnt crossed my mind. ( I watch maybe 2 movies in a theater per year) haha.

I was going to get a macbook but i'd have to get the pro and it'd be a huge waste of cash. plus i'm waiting on a install disc for the new leopard OS so i can run it on my comp :)
-
yeah.. the pro is cool, but its crazy expensive, and i dont think i would even use 1/4 of the functions it has.
all i need is iMovie, itunes, internet, and office programs. thats it for me.
my moms friend works at apple, so i was able to hook up this macbook for like 15% off.
i'm still kinda trippin about the webcam function, even though its old technology, its very new to me. haha.
