Title: Busta Rhymes Enlists T.I., Common & Mary J. Blige For New LP
Post by: Meho on April 11, 2008, 10:26:59 AM
After releasing The Big Bang in 2006, Busta Rhymes' life became engulfed in controversy and tragedy. Now, two years removed from the drama, Busta is back to silence his critics and address the haters with his new album, I'm Blessed.

SOHH had a chance to hear a preview to Busta's eight-studio album, last night at a private listening session in Manhattan. The rapper (born Trevor Smith) took the opportunity to inform invited guest that his spirits were high despite enduring a tumultuous two years, which saw the Flipmode General loose the life of his best friend and bodyguard Israel Ramirez; and face two counts of assaults charges and a DUI, ending in Busta being sentenced to three years probation.

The self-proclaimed "Godfather of the Club Banger's" was in old form as he unleashed the first single- the anthemic, "Don't Touch Me (Throw Da Water On'em)," produced by Sean C and LV of Grind Music productions (known for their work on Jay-Z's American Gangster). Followed by the introspective "Decisions," featuring Mary J. Blige, Jamie Fox and Common, Busta Bus addresses the situations that clouded his life during the last two years and he thanks those who supported him through the struggle.

The Cool & Dre produced, "Don't Believe Them" featuring Akon and T.I.
finds Busta and Tip addressing the Grand Hustle CEO's arrest right before last years BET Awards, marking the first time Tip went on record about the gun charge.

The album also features appearances from Linkin Park, T-Pain along with production from longtime associates Pharrell and the legendary DJ Scratch.

I'm Blessed is slated to hit stores this June/July via Aftermath/Interscope.

- thank God he changed the album name, Back On My B.S. was horrible
- lol at his first single again not being a Dre produced track
- the single is creative I guess but I'm not feeling it, sounds like the old Busta --> completley off beat and the production is wack (for those who haven't heard it (http://stealth.to/?id=7uld6gnxdt15kmo1juqu2t5pi1lj34)
- not too sure about the T-Pain feature

Busta Rhymes has titled his eighth studio album Blessed Rap-Up.com has learned. The first single, “Don’t Touch Me (Throw Da Water On ‘Em),” can be listened to here. The album arrives in stores and online retailers on June 17th.

please ...

noT.I. (-> wack)
no Akon (-> annoying as hell)
no T-Pain (-> might even be MORE annoying than Akon..)

only thing missing to destroy this record completely is a lil wayne feature ... PLEASE NO!

Common & Mary J sounds good though ...more in the vein of Big Bang and less like a mainstream hit guarantee crap record..

noT.I. (-> wack)

lol, you trippin.  ;)

Of the mentioned tracks/features, the Kon/Tip track sounded the most interesting..
I have a feeling that the Common/Blige/Fox track ends up in the "Coulda been" department, as in better on paper than in reality.

- the single is creative I guess but I'm not feeling it, sounds like the old Busta --> completley off beat and the production is wack (for those who haven't heard it

I don't feel it either, I bet it ends up as a street single which doesn't make the album, or it's released as a megaremix a la "Touch It"..

an aftermath release with no dre on it? weird...

as for the first single, i like how busta is flowing again, his rippin that shit to threads but the beat lacks someshit...not really feeling it so far either...i think it'l go down as a street single...he should have got neptunes to make him a g'd up fast paced futuristic club join kinda or some genesis shit they did..

hopefully busta finds his old flow again but i hope the production backs his flow up, dont want him spittin over garbage

an aftermath release with no dre on it? weird...

I bet they put at least one dre track on there ...there's definitely left over stuff from the detox sessions laying around. even if dre is not mentioned in the news, I think it's safe to say he at least has one beat on the record ...it's an aftermath release after all ..every math release had at least one dre beat on it (50, em, truth hurts, busta, game, wash, firm, aftermath sampler..)

Altough this record again ain't produced by Dre and is tagged as the first track from the new album. I just hope it's a warm up single and Dre produced the first official one.

:puke: most of these feats will sound out of place imo .. Busta is a MC who got his very own style and going with the usual "who's hot right now" featurings will hurt the music quality without a doubt .. rap is so predictable and boring

Not with any disrespect, but are you serious?

Akon = hit or miss if you aren't tired of him
Busta = hit or miss (to me at least)
Cool & Dre = hit or miss, but usually miss
T.I. = needs very good production to sound nice

And about the subject matter... again, are you serious? Do you think this felon makes/writes better (or good) songs because he was arrested?

Yeah man... I completely agree with you, except for the last line. I think mainstream rap is predictable.

You guys are looking too much into this, Busta's guest features are always on point and he always works with million artists for his album and only a few make the cut so we'll see who ends on the album. But as far as these tracks mentioned:

- the Common, Mary and Jamie song sounds a really emotional song, something like Been Through The Storm
- the TIP and Akon track sounds like an agressive song, something like Hurt
- Linkin Park are dope and he described the track is for all the people that made it out of the ghetto
- the TPain feature is questionable no doubt but if it's something like that Twista joint I won't mind

why?

offcourse it's too early to make a judgement, but from those who liked a lot of songs from the Big Bang i perfectly understand their reaction.

i mean, overall i was satisfied with Dre's input on the album, but i don't expect Dre to be involved that much with the next album; and the current lineup don't really make up for it imo.

Sure but too many people are judging the album for this article. He had like 3 MTV articles before that where he said that he has production from Dre, Nottz, Focus, J.Dilla, Timbaland & Danja... and that he will again have guest apperances people will not exepct like on the Big Bang where he had Stevie Wonder, Rick James, Raekwon, Nas... We just gotta wait for the final product, like I've said ebfore, Busta always works with shitload of people for the albums.

i see your point from a marketing point of view, but what about your personal taste?

i mean, i didn't like How we do it over here ( as you may know i don't really like the typical club formula ).
so for me, it doesn't really matter who produces the first single, as it will probably follow a certain formula anyway.

so as far as the music is concerned, i rather see non-(1st)single Dre produced tracks on this next Busta Rhymes album  :P

That's another point of view, I definetly do agree that Busta and Dre didn't have THE single for Big Bang, all their tracks could've been 2nd,3rd,4th singles but not the first (well except maybe the Missy track but that was too Candy Shop-ish for me). So, I hope they worked on that this time around.

Busta Rhymes Drafts Linkin Park For New Single
Busta Rhymes
April 15, 2008, 10:25 AM ET
Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
Busta Rhymes has drafted rock act Linkin Park to guest on his new single, "We Made It," a Chris Robinson-directed video for which is being shot today (April 15) in Los Angeles.

The track, which was produced by Cool & Dre and Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda, will introduce Rhymes' eighth studio album, "Blessed," due June 17 via Flipmode/Aftermath/Interscope.

"This is one of those songs that can't be described better than touching the souls of the common people," says Rhymes.

Shinoda and Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington will appear in the video. The group previously teamed with Jay-Z for the 2004 album "Collision Course," which debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200.

^^ Exactly, Busta came correct but the production is so fucking boring, I'm not feeling Hittman's production style, all the beats they did on American Gangster sounds cheap and boring too.

BTW this info about the release date and the single is coming staright from Interscope records, so it looks like Busta might actually release the album on June 17th  8)

Busta Rhymes and Linkin Park are collaborating and shooting “We Made It” today (April 15) in Los Angeles, the first single and video from Busta's Rhymes' highly anticipated eighth studio album Blessed.

Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda will appear in the video, which is being directed by acclaimed director Chris Robinson.

"It [“We Made It"] ain't just about the 'hood, it ain't just about the suburbs, it's about everybody,” Busta Rhymes said of the track. “This is one of those songs that can't be described better than touching the souls of the common people."

“We Made It,” which was produced by Cool and Dre, is Busta Rhymes’ first collaboration with a rock band and the first official release from Blessed.

Earlier this month Rhymes’ single “Don’t Touch Me (Throw Da Water on ‘Em was leaked to the internet and is currently receiving radio spins across the United States.

Linkin Park has been touring to support the release of the group’s double platinum album Minutes To Midnight, which spawned the group’s latest hit single "Given Up."

Busta Rhymes’ new album Blessed is due in stores on June 17.
