The hip hop world patiently awaits, for Rakim, the God of rap to emerge after signing with Dr. Dre's Aftermath Records. In a recent interview with Jerry Barrow, a freelance writer, Brooklyn's M.O.P. said they were contacted by Rakim to be on his yet-untitled album. "I had a convo with Rakim. He said he got a slot for us on his new album," Billy Danz said. "I get a chance to rock with the God." As you know, DJ Premier will produce one track on Rakim's upcoming album.

july august would be tight but i gotta feelin it wont be out until like september unless dre really wants ta move on real fast with this and if there a good buzz about rakim after his lil cameo on truth debut than im sure we aint to far away from his release. plus dre does thangs mathematically so if dre had rakim on truths first song, which i believe he decided to, i think he did for a indication that ra is coming real soon............as long as critics and fans take to his appearance on truths debut well n all u know, which basically was tight anyways.

shits gonna be tight, cant wait, but i dont want no wack mcs on this album, all i wanna hear is dre, snoop, nas, if they having knock on it, hopefully only for a hook and i wouldnt mind either hittman or eminem on it, which i doubt will happen but ya never know. this album should be real dope as long as there aint to many featuriings on it.

It is amazing how Rakim has kept a certain enigma around his name to this day.  He remains respected and anticipated despite some less than classic releases in recent years.  Although “The Master” was to me, an excellent album, sans the love songs.  If he takes this opportinuty to step forward lyrically & take the mantle as well as using his newly elevated platform to educate and open the minds of the listeners to the various plights that affect us all as humans, then we will have a timeless classic to play for our grandchildren and their children.  That is, if the world lasts that long...
Title: Re: Rakim - "Oh My God"
Post by: Murrow on March 27, 2002, 07:49:29 AM
There's a reason Rakim has been spitting his lyrics of fury for 16 years, causing people to declare him the rap messiah, a microphone god: the man has no lapses in his concentration.

Last week in Los Angeles, on the set of his new label mate Truth Hurts' debut video, "Addictive," he was fixated on the camera. With the belly-dancing-appropriate track playing in the background, Rakim barely nodded his head and hardly peeped at the four voluptuous beauties swirling around him. Like the opening line in his guest verse declares, he's "thinking of a master plan."

"Me and Dre gonna shake the world up," Rakim said earlier in the day. The rapper, who reached iconic status with Eric B. via the 1987 hit "Paid in Full," has been working with Dr. Dre on his third solo LP, Oh My God.

"The concept is self-explanatory," he explained in usual laid-back baritone. "When people hear the album, that's the first thing [we hope] they say: 'Oh my God! Ra and Dre finally [got together.]' When people hear it, we want them to be blown away, and at the same time I wanna change the game again. We've got high expectations for this album."

"I have to go to work right now and hard," Dre said on the video set. "I want this to be one of the best albums I've worked on. Everybody loves Rakim. He still gets respect. Everybody wants to hear him. I feel like it's gonna be like Quentin Tarantino bringing back John Travolta — just that big blast. So far, everything we've recorded is amazing."

Hip-hop fans that for years have been waiting for one the architects of MCing to team with rap's beatmaking guru would expect nothing less. The legendary wordsmith said he and Dre are "full-steam ahead" in the studio and that by late summer the project they've been talking about for close to a decade should be in stores. Dre, though, said he's thinking about a winter release.

Rakim called his time in the lab with Dre "refreshing" and said, "You get up in the studio with Dre, nothing [else] matters. He's in there from three in the afternoon to six in the morning. To see somebody work like that, it rekindles the fire within you and makes you wanna be next to him and make it happen. His energy in the studio is real bright, and I like that."

The excitement goes both ways. "It's pretty crazy," Dre said. "I had to get over the initial shock that I was working with Rakim. I think I'm past that now. I can concentrate on getting creative and bringing something out of him maybe he didn't know he had, get something new and fresh out of him — something that's gonna be a lot better than what the other MCs are doing today. I'm not gonna stop until I accomplish that."

Rakim said that with Dre handling the bulk of the production (DJ Premier has also signed on) it's easier for him to concentrate on writing those innovative rhymes.

"When I broke up with Erick B., I went on a little hiatus. Then all I was trying do is find producers. It's real hard, man. When you're dealing with a bunch of different producers, you gotta make sure the chemistry fits. You can't have 12 records on your album and none of them sound alike. You gotta kind of have something to make them say, 'That sounds like Rakim.' It's hard. That's why this position that I'm in with Dr. Dre, I can sit back and focus on the notebook and pad. I'm in a real good position. I couldn't ask for a better producer."

What he is asking for is for some of his peers to put more thought into their music. He's hoping that like his classic debut, Paid in Full, Oh My God will show him leading by example.

"Hip-hop, we're getting slack on the creative process of what rappers are talking about," he explained. "I want to do what I feel hip-hop is. I want everybody to acknowledge it. I don't want to knock nobody down, but what I want to do on this album is point at what I think real hip-hop is. If it works, then it's all to the good. If not, then I might have to submit to what's going on, but I'll never do that! I always went left to what everybody else was doing. I'm used to going against the grain. I definitely want to make a statement this time and change rap."

Mtv.com:  But Dr. Dre, reclining in his audio operating room of mixing boards and
recording equipment, can't contain his excitement about his latest patient, Rakim, the man
who drew up the blueprint for MCing, a lyricist so legendary in rap circles that he's often
called "the god."

The young fans who nowadays are responsible for current rappers selling millions may not
be aware who Rakim is. But you gotta remember, Rakim's reign of terror in the rap world
reached its peak in the '80s.

"The first few joints we did, I had to get over the fact that I was working with Rakim,"
Dre says, grinning and leaning forward. "It was a little hard to direct him, you know what
I mean? But now that we've been talking and getting to know each other a little bit, it's
getting a little easier. I can throw some concepts at him and we can vibe."

With Rakim, Dre has signed his first already-established star (besides himself, of course).
But it's been 15 years since Rakim and former partner Eric B. scored a hit with Paid in
Full, and other comeback attempts have not faired well. Orchestrating Rakim's return is a
challenge Dre is embracing.

I told him I wanted it to be both of our best albums, Dre says, proudly setting his
expectations high. "With any project that I get involved in, I feel like there's pressure. I
think that's what makes my music come out so good. I'm my worst critic, so I guess I give
myself most of the pressure. More pressure than probably the public does, you know. So I
just have to please myself, and once I do that usually the public digs it."

With the recording of Rakim’s Oh My God LP wrapped, after completing work on 50 Cent’s Shady Records debut, Dr. Dre and Mel-Man will be going on hiatus for a few months to work on material for Dre’s hip-hopera Detox.

Knowing Dre, and how he works, I'd say to look for this album in December.  It will prolly get pushed back a couple of slots like all Aftermath releases.

And which Aftermath site are you talking about?

I think the single should drop sometime in November.

Aftermath's Kirdis Tucker said to definitely look for the album in 2003.  Looks like our hopes for this to drop this year are gone.

Am i the only one thats heard cold feeling? It was produced by ayatolla and it was definatly recorded since he's been signed to aftermath cos he quotes it a few times, but i doubt it will make the album cos it was on some mix tape a long time ago, and not good enuff to be classic

yea, almost everybody on here heard it.
It was dope, but not classic.
I hope it doesn't make the CD in it's current form.

The lyrics on Cold Feeling were dope as hell, but the beat was weak - just like the majority of Ayatollah's beats.

Another long day has winded down in the studio.  DJ Premier shuffles his way thru Dr.Dre's studio in a very swift manner.  The man looks beat, the expression on his face seem to point to lack of sleep and rest. Premier brings a handful of DATs and zip drives to Mel-Man and Dr.Dre. "Damn you some picky Cali niggas arent ya?" exclaims Premier, as he hands over his precious demos.  Mel-Man and Dre's eye's gleem with delight, as they put the DATs in the machine and start to examine the latest Work of Mart.  For about 30 seconds Dre's head is in constant movement, jerking up and down in unison with the beat.Dre and Mel-Man look at each other, and give an almost silent agreement.  Mel-Man tells Primo "Yo we dig the Funkadelic chop you did,but we gonna get Scott and em to redo the bassline.  Is that cool ma'man?".  Primo replies "No question, I trust you and Dre. Ya'll my niggas.",as he dips into another bag he brought over.  Dre takes a closer look and to his suprise, Primo dishes out about 10 old rare grooves and latin jazz records.

As Premier and Dre go over the old collection, they talk and laugh as if they were old friends who have never left each other's side. Dre states "Me and Primo have an odd history together. My nigga DOC used to stay up near Austin, at about that time Primo started sending out demos from his old dormroom in Texas. Me,Cube and Yella travelled down to Texas to see DOC, but instead we ran into Primo slanging mixtapes at Texas A&M."  Primo chimes in "Man that was garbage back then.I was just strugging to pay for some books and having something so a nigga could eat.  Dre was cool and shit,we exchanged numbers gave daps and went on our own ways.  I didnt run into Dre until him and Snoop were in New York around 92-93.  He came by the D&D Studios and at that time me and Eddie Sancho were helping DJ Evil Dee engineer a couple tracks for the upcoming Black Moon album.  Dre played us The Chronic and it was a reality check for me.  I trashed alot of the beats I was doing at the time, which would have been for me and Guru's album Daily Operation." As Dre takes a sip of some coffee, Primo adds "Me and Dre, we opposites but we bring each other up, he inspired me to pick up the bass guitar and some live drum basics while hes starting to fuck with the the SP."

The SP1200, an ancient relic of hip hop production, a tool which has been championed by Buckwild, Pete Rock, Large Professor and Evil Dee, is now being put to use by Dre."  Cats forget I used to do the grimey, James Brown sampled shit." Dre exclaims, he goes on and says "The two joints imma lace Rakim with and the one im trying do with ma' man Primo, is just a reminder of how I started soundwise in the game."  Dre then suprises me with an impromptu playing of "Cruel World", a straight from the gutter, no frills approach on the fate of mankind guest starring Ras Kass and Xzibit.  Dre time stretches a sped up,nearly unrecognizable Donald Byrd sample. Im treated to three vibrant layers of various drums that have been EQ'ed, filtered and tweaked out, Primo comes to my side and whispers in a chuckling voice,"I loaned Dre a Roy Ayers live bootleg record I copped in Germany. He owes me for them drums kid."  Other producers in line for "Oh My God" are.  Kayne West, Alchemist, Fred Wreck and Ayatollah.  "Oh My God" is slated for a late November release date on Aftermath Records.

But this shit about only 3 songs from Dre!!? Thats bull 2!!!
He said it himself that he will be producing the majority of the album!!?
Nah! 3 songs are bull!!! At least 6-7 cuts from the good doctor is what im expecting.

November is when the shit goes down and the face-change of hiphop again thanx 2 Dr.Dre!

No one knows what they are talking about, don't believe any of these rumors, I think they are keeping this tight and don't want anyone to know anything about this album before it's released.

Ra and Dre are creating confusion for this album to make more of an impact.

Yo, I just read a magazine, don't know which one, but it had Eminem and Rakim on the cover.  It basically was an interview on how they are 2 great MC's with two totally different styles.  Eminem said he was 'scared to ask Dre about the material Dre and Ra have been working on.'  Saying it is so top secret, and that EM is intimidated by it.

So this project is still on y'all.

Here you go:

Eminem And Rakim Talk Collaboration
By Chuck 'Jigsaw' Creekmur, BET.Com Staff Writer

September 26, 2002-- In an interview with Mass Appeal magazine, pop-hop bad boy Eminem and Rakim, an '80s rap icon, compared lyrical styles and strongly suggested that they would record together in the near future. Although both lyricists are affiliates of Dr. Dre, neither has publicly discussed the prospect of collaboration until this cover story.

Because of their conflicting schedules, Eminem admitted, the pair hasn't yet been able to unite in the studio, but they said there is a realistic possibility they will collaborate on Rakim's highly-anticipated album, Oh My God.

"We talked about doing something together when we met for [a] photo shoot. It seemed that for a minute we just kept missing each other," Eminem said, "I told Ra, yo, I'm there. I'm available."

Rakim said, in agreement, "If me and Em hit the studio, we gonna come out of there with something great. So look out."

A huge fan of Rakim, Eminem suggested that working with the man deemed by many as the "god of rap" would be an intimidating feat, even though he himself is currently considered as one of the finest rappers in the game, if not the finest.

"I just told Ra that before I do a song with him, I need to stack my ideas for like a month, he said. "But whenever you need me Ra, I'm on a plane."

The pair also compared the changes in rhyme styles from the late '80s, when Rakim was the standard of excellence, to the present, where Em is the current dominant lyrical presence.

Rakim said that from his point of view, hip-hop music has progressed and taken steps backwards too.

"Rhyme styles are advanced, but in someways its stagnating 'cause you got a lot of rappers talking about the same sh*t."

Unlike some of his peers, Eminem said he never uses a rhyme he isn't impressed by.

"I know that I work hard at putting rhymes together. You can tell when somebody's in the studio writing two-minute rhymes and doesn't really give a f**k," Eminem said.

After listening to "what's Your Name" by Xzibit I can't wait for an upcomin Rakim/Eminem collabo. I mean the beat is just ridiculous. Since Ra seems to be one of Em's fav MCs I think Mr Mathers will pull out a dope ass beat to make this track the bomb.

I hope that song on "8-Mile," "R.A.K.I.M." is a Eminem produced track.  It would be dope if both Dre & Em did it!  Since Dre seems to be nowhere found on the tracklisting.  On the other hand, this could be an old Ra song.  Didn't he have a song that went "I'm the R, the A, to the K-I-M"?

He used that the first time on "As The Rhyme Goes On" off Paid In Full.

It was also part of the chorus on "Once Upon A Rhyme In Japan" off an album by some Japanese DJ, Nigo.  Can't say I've heard the remix, (didn't even know their was one, the original had some nice production.)

If you look @ Ra before his hook up with Aftermath...he was always over these raw beats...like Primo.  Now you got him over these polished up tracks like Kon Artist's "RAKIM."  I hope old Rakim fans won't turn their heads on this.  My opinion is that he should not rap over Fredwreck, Battlecat or any regular Quik beats because thet represent WC beats that may ruin Rakim.
Title: Re:Rakim - "Oh My God"
Post by: LyRiCaL_G on November 03, 2002, 12:02:29 PM
yaeh tru but primo betta bring heat kuz his latest shits been weak IMO and large pro bringin more polished raw beats lately if u kinda get what im sayin, but yeah no fredreck, his gotta nice style of production......but they aint one bit suited for a rakim track.... i mean imagine rakim sayin sum shit like 'yeah baby, u dig the funk stacey?' lol itd be funny, but whoever be doin beats for rakim betta be on top game, even dre n primo kuz if its weak, they gonna damage they own names to for not managin to bring the best outta themselves when workin with a legend......same goes for rakim, thats why i got alot of confidence in this album

another thing is R.A.K.I.M was a dope joint no doubt, but ra's flow was inconsistant on it, hed flow alot betta near the end of verses than at the beggining where he sounds rusty, like he cant flow what his sayin together, but then suddenly near the end of verses, his like the RAKIM everyone knows, lyrics were crazy to of the track

oh n one otehr thing.......even though his droppin joints now.......the addictive appearance, 8mile ost joint n now the watcher 2....... we still got no news on him.......but atleast rakim told us all "relax y'all, its a rap".......albums basically done playaz........"2003 hits galore".......lets hope

peace

yeah I thought his flow was a little off on R.A.K.I.M. too.  The beat was off too, with those soldiers-feet SFX landing off-beat.  Maybe weed is needed to feel it.

It's like, watchin a movie through a panoramic screen
Which means, I can see the whole planet in the scene
Cash is the topic, the object, a fatter pocket
Some take the crack and chop it, but those that haven't got it
take away the added profit, it's catastrophic
I take the gat and cock it, and I'll sit back and watch it
These New York streets is ugly, I keep it gully
The world is mine and can't nobody keep it from me
Yo, my neighborhood is never sunny
In the place where the number one cause of death is money

A lot of people are both excited and frustrated with the progress of Oh My God and DEtox.  There are a lot rumours and lies about the projects and people don't know what to believe.  What should you believe? NOTHING.  The fact is no one outside of the Aftermath camp and the other artists and producers who have contributed know the truth.  About six months ago I mentioned that details about Oh My God and Detox as well as the actual master tapes are being guarded like Fort Knox.  I also told you that everyone involved in those projects, including myself, had to sign and make agreements not to leak anything about the projects.  On that same post I mentioned that the target release date for  Oh My God was around Nov 12th.  I made a mistake for getting your hopes up and for that I apologize.  however that was dre and interscopes target date.  that date was not met because of many reasons. One, the album wasn't done. Two, it was decided Ra needed to make a few more appearances to get some more buzz and exposure going, and Three, the competition in November was way too much. plus Jimmy had too many Interscope releases and Dre decided it was too close to the 8 mile soundtrack.
I think the decision to push back Oh My God was the right decision. I'll get back to this shortly.
After I made that post about us signing agreements not to talk about Oh My God and Detox, you may have noticed very little information has been released about those 2 projects.  Fortunately, no one has broken the trust Dre gave us when we made those agreements.  Because no information has been released about Oh My God a lot of media and magazines are making things up or writing articles without any facts.  A major example was when The Source did that horrible article on Ra a few months back.  They printed the article without getting any confirmed info. They did hear a purposely bad copy of the Dre produced Afterlife.  Dre and Ra knew tha article would come out and that it would not reveal anything. that was done on purpose. it was both funny and frustrating that the article was so lacking in info. funny because it made the source look stupid. and frustrating because of people's overreaction to the artcile mentioning only 2 songs had been done. i got called a liar many times. people couldn't believe  we'd been telling people the album was close to completion, when there was only two tracks done. It was true only a few songs were semi completed (which means they had been mixed once or twice). but a huge  number of unmixed tracks had been worked on.  the source was too stupid to know the difference or too lazy to figure that out.  as frustrating as the reation to that article was it accomplished what Dre wanted -  To keep a mystery and myth around the album.  I give you my word I have been honest every step of the way when discussing Oh My God.  Just don't trust anything you hear about Oh My God. Why? because none of those people know anything about the albums because we didn't tell them. So Don't be alarmed at the dead silence about the projects. thats the way dre and ra want it.

Where is Oh My God at right now?  the answer is that it is not done yet. Other than that I can't share much with you. How much longer will you have to wait? I'll never tell. What will it sound like? Expect the unexpected.  By the time we're done we could have 100 tracks.  Dre's been all over the map, but expect a 180 turnaround from what you may expect.  Dre is going retro and gritty while remaining innovative and creative.  Thats all I'm going to say.  One thing that happened recently was JMJ's death really caused Dre and Rakim to take a step back and look at things. JMJ's death caused both of them to remind themselves that Oh My God is much more important that selling records. hip hop is in a state of emergency. someone has to step up and enlighten and bring authentic old school techniques, passion, positivety and values back.  Dre and ra have a renewed focus on making this the best album possible.  It may be a complete failure, but they are going to try and burn a trail and lead hip hop to the level it needs to, has to be in order for it to survive and impact peoples lives in a positive way.
Its a good indication that the wait is almost over because you have heard new Rakim tracks recently.  Dre, Jimmy and Steve have tried to set up a plan to make Oh My God as successful with as much impact as possible. Addictive was the first reintro for Rakim.  They wanted to get ra on The Eminem show but it ended up being too late by the time they tried to get em and ra together. so they never got studio time arrainged.  After they decided OMG would be released next year (partially because they wanted to get Ra more exposure) Dre wanted to get Rakim on 2 prominent releases. 8 mile was an obvious option and jay z was a huge release that would get him more exposure. between Addicitive, R.A.K.I.M., and The Watcher 2 Rakim has reached a large and broad audience that gets him exposed to millions of music buyers.  The next step is one more outside collab and then the first single from OMG.  I've heard mostly positive things about the 2 recent Ra tracks. Some people complained about kon artists production on R.a.k.i.m.  That track was selected cause Ra had great lyrics and flow, and because the sound was much different than most of the probable OMG tracks.  The beat was off kilter as was the intent. it was an experiemental track that accomplished its mission of showing off Rakims skills.
The Watcher 2 has gotten mostly great feedback.  I'm not a big fan of Jay but it was great exposure getting on the album.  jay did decent on W2 but I think he was pressing to hard to outshine Ra.  Jay did NOT write Dre's verse on J2. someone else on the track did though.  Watcher 2 was one of the first, if not the first, track Dre and ra worked on.  The guitar part on W2 was not a take on james bond.  Dre originally had it on ra's verse only on the first version.  it was a reference to Pulp Fiction, ala tarantino bringing back travolta, not james bond.  when dre did the new mix with jay he just added it throughout the song.  W2 was a very dope joint indeed.
Where do we go from here?  I equate OH MY GOD and DETOX to 2 stealth bombers.  right now there is dead silence, an eerie silence, you are in the dark, wondering whats going on. you are going on about your daily business not having any idea that two stealth bombers are silently creeping up on you.  you are not prepared.  at the moment you least expect it, the steath bombers are right above you. you don't know they are there until its too late. before you can react the bombs have obliverated you.  the aftermath of these bombs have created mass destruction beyond belief. however, from the darkness emerges light created by a newly blazed trail. hopefully people will follow the light to greatness never known before.
dre is finally really focused on detox and things are going great.  the stuff he's doing is really getting me excited. we're trying every experiment and sound we can think of.  I can't promise you anything about OH mY GOD AND DETOX. All I can tell you is that dre is either going to fail miserable or succeed with incredible classics beyond anyone's expectations.  dre is taking some huge risks and chances all in the attempt to do something innovative and creative. something that will cement his legacy and a create a new sound that producers will to copy and equal for generations.
hang in there everyone. keep your head up. make a difference. to our die hard fans and supporters thanks for your undying support and your patience. to all the doubters and haters keep doing your thing.  you push and inspire Dre and everyone at Aftermath to prove you wrong.  have a safe and happy holliday.  2003 will be another incredible the year for Aftermath/Shady records. but talk is cheap so the next time you hear from me will be after Oh My God drops next year. peace and love y'all.

hey everyone,

i'm pretty new to the board, i don't post much, just a lot of reading. i have to be honest. i 22 and i wasn't into music of any kind until high school, so i never really grew up with rakim or anything. but i want to go back to hear his old stuff. everything up to this point i have heard from him is great. i expect this next record to be big. i think dre and ra will come together and create something. i can't wait. its frustating because you want the music, but you know it's not good to have something rushed either. i can't wait for both oh my god and detox. i think mellow is onto something. dre will either drop the atomic bomb of rap and create one of the best records ever or it will just not be what we are looking for. but it takes risk to be great. it is a big chance and i can't wait to hear it.

and don't give up on Rakim's Oh My God. those who stay patient and keep the faith will be rewarded. dre has about 10 tracks he thinks are good enough to make the final cut. if the rest of the tracks equal these 10 you will have a classic. even if they don't your still gonna be very very happy.i wish i had better answers for you. but i don't. even if i did i couldn't tell you anyway.  I am 100 percent certain Oh My God will be released this year and it will be as good as you think it will be.

Yeah homie...E. J. Rizo

ImO
It really sucks when greatness is put on hold.
Rakim had the momentum and it got abruptly shut down.
Dre/Aftermath had the oppurtunity to blow Ra up on various project's which commercialy exploded such as "Eminem Show" & "Get rich or die tryin" instead they tossed him on a track mared by contrversy "Addicted", which didn't really give us anything on what to expect from Oh my God, except how dope Ra sounded on the classic track "Paid in full". ;)

"The Watcher 2" & "R.A.K.I.M." aiight song's but again no video or radio play on either joint.
Plus what really sucks the most is that Newer hip-hop fan's have short term memory loss when it comes to taste, AKA the Flavor of the month mentality.

"If it's hotness outta the mouth of another then it must be flames"

Rakim deserves all the credit in the world, and when his lp drop's It will and should be everything the fan's of his music expect from him. Let's just hope Aftermath dosn't fuck it up again like they have before...and before that.

Well, it has started to get to me.

First it was Dre's 2001 album that had me waiting and waiting.  Eventually it dropped, but no other hip-hop album has made me build up so much anticipation as this one.

I dunno if this silent treatment is working anymore from Dre & Ra, but If we don't get this album by this year then I think Ra is done with his stint on the Math.

I'm hoping they stick to a summer release date or whatever.

Yeah, but if Ra is a slow worker
and you add Dre who is also notorious
for takin his time, it makes since why
this has taken three years!!!

for some reason i think this shit is gonna get pushed back...i don't know, could it be the fact that there has been no promotion, no first single yet...and no word from mellowman, thats my opinion though, peace.

I wouldn't really used him as an indicator.

Q: When is Rakim's album coming out? i heard it's done, why is Dre sitting on it!!!
A:  The album is not done until Dre says its done, takes the album to Jimmy and Jimmy says its good to go.  I will tell you that the release date goal is November 12th.  I can't guarantee that date but I think there is a good shot we can get it out by that date give or take a few weeks.

The best indicator for an album coming soon is a single WITH the video.

^^lol dawg i been hopin for nearly 3 years about this shit man,  worst thing about it is that dre said spring 2003 and its 2003 spring now n summa is one its way so the first single could be droppin real soon now but as we still have no diea about this project, its jus killin me to bitz, i jus hope i dont get dissapointed when it drops cuz as each day goes by i see it as one day closer to rakim and shits gettin me mad hyped! and whats pissin me off is we know nothing at all about this project apart from dre and premo are signed on to make beats. shits pissin me off but im mad hyped at the same time, but im jus sayin i cant see this droppin in june, specailly with 50 cent still makin mad noise and still got his many men video to drop yet

Cause he hasn't.

His last album, The Master came out late '99.  So just a little over three years at the most.

Rakim signed with Aftermath, late October/early November 2000.
That would make the relationship 2 years and 6 months..

Honestly the longer it takes..
The longer I think his solo lp,will become a sort of compilation album feat: The entire Aftermath family.

I hope not....But It seem's to be going in that direction.
If shitt was to drop in a perfect world....it would only contain 2 guest shot's and Dre's best production.

We can only wait tho...

Think June!!  Though we have had our own fun  with predicting when Rakim's AfterMath debut, Oh My God, would finally surface, (peep the I Ain't Having That section for plenty of Dr. Dre ball-breaking), we are receiving very solid information that Rakim's opus has been tagged with a 6-3-2003 release date!!Before Gang Starr? We'll see....

Rakim speaks @ Aftermath Music ... Could be a fake ... i donno ;)

hey straight up from the god(no joke), thanks for the support for our label and myself. andre is a very patient person, very maticulous, so weve taken our time with my lp.i want everyone to know that this a rakim album , not a dr dre and rakim album. andre has a huge hand on things ofcourse, but,it is important that people know that i need to re establish myself first in order for this project to work.things will happen this year or not at all. jam master jays death also has put a stall in the process as well.expect a single in early july , then a video, finally a late july release. but snags do happen, projects get cancelled and artists get released unfortunately, so dont hold your breathe....peace

hey fans its ra again[no joke, imreally rakim aka william griffin]i left a few things out earlier in my comments. im actually on vacation in belize, so i have a few spare moments to get in touch with the hardcore aftermath fans. i cant let u know too much about the lp, no specifics, but there are some things i can fill u in on.first of all we appreciate everything our fans do for us .''oh my god'' has been delayed a while.we were aiming for a spring release ,but 50 blew up way beyond expectation. we feel that releasing my lp on 50's heels may draw unfair comparison, which we want to avoid.the lp is 99 % complete ,just some fine tuning left. like i said earlier today, think july. understand that the get rich' album still has some steam, were giving it a little more space.my guest appearances are few on my album, but they are amazing.i have major hitters with me on this project. this album will define my career, so we are making sure its as close to perfect as possible. peace

word, whats retarded is that even though the single or any shit hasnt dropped yet, there nuttin known about this a,bum, no promotion or nuttin, even before 50 cent dropped his single, the buzz had started n shit, things better kick off soon with rakim, at first it was nice to see a different typa buzz created, then while the wait got longer, ppl were still like "aiight its okay, they jus makin sure everythins sopt on n the timin n shit is perfect"......now its jus vergin on a plain, hurry the fuck up...........i dunno if its rakim n dres fault or jimmy but whoever is it, better realise that this shit has had like 3 years to be made and if they cant get 12 -14 excellent tracks off the best producer with a genious on the mic........id be worried

we heard more off brooklyn, 50, joe beast n the game then we have ra......but i still think he'll drop..he better or alot of folks will hate on dre and aftermath if it doesnt!

peace

Here is something that everyone should be aware of and remember:

Rakim: "I'ma keep that a little secret, in terms of the artists and some of the producers who are gonna do tracks.  I wanna try  to surprise the world as much as possible, 'cause that's one of the things that's missing in hop-hop: the surprise.  There's so much pre-album hype; the people already know everything.  But it's been awaited so long, man... I wanna try to surprise and give them something good."

This should explain why we don't know shit about the album.
