true, most named are just like border-line or just accept as a classic.
yeah i think that a couple of good (street) albums were released, but classic? :P
-
Really classics? Only The Game wit Doctor´s Advocate
Trauma by Quik is really close to be a classic but otherwise...
-
Doctor's Advocate is not a classic; you can't have a classic with 3 average songs (Wouldn't Get Far, Around The World and Bang). It can be your personal classic though.
The Documentary on the other hand is.
-
I can't name any real CLASSICS after 2000.
2000 seemed to be when the west started going downhill, IMO.
-
restless
space boogie
last meal
2 eastsidaz albums
trauma
probably not considered as hip hop classics but the are my personal favourites since 2000
oh and i dont know if this would be in outbound or here, probably both but Muggs/GZA Grandmasters was unbelievable
-
3X Krazy - Real Talk 2000
shit, all their albums were classic.
-

I don´t want to attack someone personally, but to be honest: we all know that the most people think that "The Documentary" is a classic because it has Dre beats on it. "Hate It Or Love It", "Dreams", "Start From Scratch" = classic material. The other songs are all good too, but nothing that you really can labelled as classic. Classic maerial on "Doctor´s Advocate" = "One Night", "Wouldn't Get Far", "Ol' English", "Doctor's Advocate", "Why You Hate The Game" and "Remedy". The other songs, expect "Scream On Em" which is really garbage, are all good too, no filler you hd to skip. And "Doctor´s Advocate" is more versatile than "The Documentary", the lyrics are better (OK, still a lt of name-dropping, but thisis not the toic here ;) ) and the production is not so radio orientated lke Game´s first album.
BTW. I think this hole classic or not discussion is absurdism, just like the "Best Rapper Of All Time", "Best Producer Of All Time"... debate

It all depends on one's definition of "classic", but to me it's pretty much anything that made an impact on the game or the listener, is solid the whole way through, and represents the finest work out an artist or group's career. A few that I would put on my list are:
Evidence - The Weatherman LP (Amazing album, I didn't like the skits, but he proved that he could carry an album lyrically and production-wise)
Zion I - True & Livin' (I liked all 3 of their albums, plus the one with The Grouch, but I think this was the most consistent one yet)
The Jacka - The Jack Artist (Surprised me with this one, solid all the way through, great work from Rob-Lo on the beats)
Shock G - Fear of a Mixed Planet (A lot of this is sentimental, and because so many people slept on it. Can't deny that it was vintage Shock, covering such a wide range of topics that only he can)
Hieroglyphics - Full Circle (Came back hungry and focused on this one, showed that they can still put it down.
These ones are all certain for me, other ones that are borderline for me would be The Game - Doctor's Advocate (I thought it was better than Documentary), Dilated Peoples - Neighborhood Watch (Really solid work), Blu & Exile - Below The Heavens (not a single filler), Mistah FAB - Nig Latin (He came out blazing with this one), The Coup - Pick A Bigger Weapon, Paris - Sonic Jihad (I also liked the compilation feeling of Hard Truth Soldiers).
-

I get what you are saying, but it really depends on the listener and their definition of a classic. All of the ones that I listed can be played all the way through without skipping, with the exception of Evidence having a couple skits and maybe 1 song that I didn't really like..The ones that are borderline that I listed, made big impacts and had great songs, but there was too much filler in my opinion.

As far as Roscoe goes, I really like the first album, but for me personally here were a lot of skipper tracks. The second album I can vibe to better.
When it comes to Space Boogie, I never understood the hate on it. Kurupt still has the rugged flow and the beats are top notch. All opinion though.
