We've been talking about it for months and it's almost here for you to purchase. Ice Cube's latest solo album, "Raw Footage" is dropping on August 19th and is set to be one of the standout releases of 2008.
So far we've had the singles Do Ya Thang [watch the video - see behind the scenes] as well as the street single Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It. We also brought you the streaming audio of Get Used To It featuring The Game and WC furthering the talk that The Game is set to join Westside Connection in place of Mack 10 for a new album.
Today we are happy to present a 19 minute "Raw Footage" album sampler that showcases the tracks that will feature on the album.

Eleven songs, all quality, including all the ones we have heard previously. "--a 19 minute "Raw Footage" album sampler that showcases the tracks that will feature on the album." I hope there'll be a couple more songs on the album, because eleven tracks is kind of short in my opinion. That was mine only concern about the sampler.

2. I Got My Locs On [feat. Young Jeezy] ---> meh, sounds like a South record
3. Do Ya Thang ---> out for a while
4. Hood Mentality ---> now this is some awsome shit, great production and Cube killed it
5. Here He Come ---> another South-ish production
6. Why Me? [feat. Music Soulchild] --> again great production from Teak "Da Beatsmith" Underdue & Dee Underdue, lovely background piano, Cube and Musiq both sound dope, more emotional track
7. Get Use To It [feat. The Game & WC] ---> already out
8. Jack N the Box ---> God DAMN, this is on some movie shit production from Tha Bizness

So, I listened to the sampler for the fourth time now and I´m still not really impressed. Absolutely not that what I was expecting, sounds all way to southish IMO but Cube is a pure monster on most of the tracks, his lyrics are on point too. But overall I´m smelling a big disappointment :-\

if a dude comes hard wit the lyrics and the concepts and all that, but some of the beats maybe sounds weak, then ima still cop it if im really feelin it.
this is music. the beat is the biggest part of that. If I'm not feeling the beat, theres a 95% chance that im not gonna like the song, no matter how ill it might be lyrically. you can't have one or the other, you need both.

t.i. happens to know what his fanbase likes and he brings it. this shit is weak compared to earlier cube. production plays a very significant part in music. with a wack soundscape the message in the song is lost. cube need some potent production to match potent(at times) lyrics.

This is in response to Si-Chiggedy's post: I agree. Besides, this is just a sampler. I personally would have to hear the whole album to judge. I remember back in '06, I wasn't thrilled w/ the sound of some of the beats on the sampler that Dubcnn posted for LAUGH NOW, CRY LATER (The three Lil Jon tracks in particular, and I thought the beats for "Steal The Show" and "Stop Snitchin'" were clunky-sounding, but once I heard the album itself and let it grow on me, I was like "OK, I get it now." The key w/ Cube is that you have to judge his newer stuff w/out any preconceived notions of what he's allegedly supposed to sound like based on previous records. And that's a hard thing for folks to do--the first time that you hear an artist tends to leave the strongest impression in your mind. I remember that a lot of folks back in 1998 had that problem w/ WAR, because it was more gothic/mafioso-ish in its' tracks, and also because there wasn't as much politcal/issues type stuff as there had been on his 1990-1993 solos. But I'll buy RAW FOOTAGE when it comes out, play it a few times, and then I'll be able to better judge it. Everyone's entitled to their opinions on it, though.

that's exactly how I feel. It doesn't have to do with the West/South thing, I just think modern productions are mostly awful. I was just disappointed Cube jumped on the bandwagon and also used those crappy productions, although he stated that he gave a fuck about modern rap industry. There are also beats who are not considered "South" but who still suck, "Get Used to It "comes to my mind. ... I won't buy it the first day it comes out, maybe after I downloaded it, but I doubt that.

Im feeling the same way....."Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It" and "Do Ya Thang" are the best tracks I've heard so far now. And the track with Game sounded good. Wasnt too impressed so far tho, prolly still get the album tho.
