Ok so some of his beats are not what we are used to. But to say the man is garbage like I see half of this forum is saying is insane. Cool N Dre better than Dr. Dre? ???
Longevity
That word is a lost art in hip hop nowdays. Just because you hot now, does not mean that is going to last your whole career. Now I am just as frustrated as the next person about Detox not being out, but I know whenever it does drop, Dre is going to have some heat on the album. Period.
No diss intended to any of the dope producers out there, they are doing they thing. But holla back in 20 years and if they have as long a career as Dre and make consistent hits, then we on to something.

I just don't get it. I can name at least 5-10 bangers that Dre has dropped since The Big Bang, which looks like to me most people in here believe that he fell off after that album.

to be honest dre is my fav producer but i think there are people slowly coming to his level and timbos level but i think dre should have been on games new album the reason people are bashing on him is because he has made some mistakes dropping good artists and not choosing to work with some artists but when it all comes down to it we all still love his music and we all get excited when one of his beats surface on the west coast fourm and we get to download it and listen to it

Hip hop fans have such a short memory. Sure Dre hasn't been releasing anything amazing in the last few years, but that doesn't mean you can suddenly throw out the last 20 years of classic material before that. No one has a catalog even close to Dre, and no one has had the success he's had.
He's obviously been saving the majority of his time and his beats for his own projects, and hopefully it'll show. In the last 3 years, Timbaland has been the far better producer though. Dre can't just release hundreds of beats a year, it's quality control. No one gets excited over a Storch beat, or Swizz Beats anymore. They flooded the pool with their material, much of it no good. Dre releases a few beats a year to remind you he's still around. He obviously put no time into the beats he gave TI or Snoop. The point is, when Detox and Bishop drop, then you can judge Dre's quality of music. Other then that, you can't judge the quality from beats he mailed to people.
Also, lets hope Dre's working with Snoop, 50 and Em won't hold up Detox or the Reformation. Get those 2 projects out, then focus on other people. They can wait in line.

Half those producers you just mentioned are heavy on samples too. Kanye, Just Blaze, 9th Wonder not as much but he has a couple ehh beats out there. Premo samples too. It ain't so much the sampling, it's what you do with the sample that counts.

Every producer samples, Quik, Dre, Timbaland. No producer plays every instrument they use, except maybe Prince. Doesn't make you any less of a producer.

im not even talking about sampling as chopping up beats for sounds, im talking about basically ripping off tracks, like with the "Whats the difference" all the way back to g thang, he takes WAY too long to produce songs or release material and even when he does lately its below par, he has way too many people working with him to call himself a "producer" . .

Dre just hasn't put out anything major in the last couple of years, it's not like he's dropping joints on a regular basis.
A lot of cats fail to realize that most of the beats he's produced have been CHOSEN by the artist themselves. Jay-Z stated that he picked those 4 Dre beats for "Kingdom Come" from a beat CD Dre sent him. He even said that he fought Dre over "Lost One", as Dre didn't want that record to make the final cut. Same exact thing with Snoop's "Imagine", Dre didn't want to release that either so Snoop had to convince him. Personally, I feel like Dre is capable of better shit than what he's done in recent history, but it's still quality material. Just like any and every other producer, he can't hit a home run with every joint he makes. I guess it comes down to one's taste, but to say he's fallen off or that there's a million cats better than him, I can't agree with that shit. He hasn't been hitting them like he used to, but that's what they said before "2001" dropped and look what happened. Sometimes, the "Lost One"s and the "Grow Up"s bore the shit outta me, but I understand dude's direction. Hopefully he can try to please the majority if or when Detox comes out.

You don't seem to know the difference between producing music and making beats. Dre not a great producer? The majority of people who have actually worked with him say otherwise. Is he a flawless person who has made nothing but five-star classics since he first started? Hell no. He's had his share of duds but his catalog can't be fucked with. Too many people working with him to call himself a "producer"? What's a producer? Someone who sits alone in a studio and makes entire songs from scratch, playing all the instruments and mastering the entire project on his own?

All I am saying is just because Harry the Wino down the street in the cardboard box got a hold of some Pro Tools and made some hot beats does not make him a better overall producer then Dre just because people liked his record for a hot minute. People act like Dre got 1 foot in the grave already.

So your actually saying Kanye's two albums are better then the Chronic and 2001? By complete album, I mean 80% of the tracks. 10 people working on the beat? Just because Storch is on the drums making the sample doesn't mean he's producing it. Come on man, honestly, you can't be serious if you think Kanye or Blaze is better then Dre's production for NWA or his two albums. That's an incredibly stupid thing to say.

DJ Toomp and Timbaland co produced all the bangers on Kanyes last album, check the credits. And saying Kanye's albums are better than The Chronic and 2001 just shows you a young mahfucka who knows nothing bout the game, both those albums created movements, and changed the game, and that's not even mentioning his N.W.A., Eazy E, and Snoop Dogg albums that he produced from the top down.
College Dropout and Late Registration had no movement's attached to them, dope albums both of them but they didnt change the game. Graduation's the closest thing Kanye has to an album that changed the game, and half the beats on their had co producers as well...
Just Blaze is dope as fuck, but he's never produced a complete album, he was key to the early rocafella movement, but he's been trying to break his own artist into the game (Saigon) and hasn't had any luck atl all. Dr. Dre is a legend, and the only other producers that belong beside him are RZA, Premier and Timbaland...

That word is a lost art in hip hop nowdays. Just because you hot now, does not mean that is going to last your whole career. Now I am just as frustrated as the next person about Detox not being out, but I know whenever it does drop, Dre is going to have some heat on the album. Period.
No diss intended to any of the dope producers out there, they are doing they thing. But holla back in 20 years and if they have as long a career as Dre and make consistent hits, then we on to something.

Quik and Kanye don't have lots of guests on their album? Since when? Have you looked at the guest lists? Quik's last album had two songs with no features on them. His albums before that were loaded with features too.
Are any of the people who keep bringing up Kanye aware that his second album was nearly all produced with Jon Brion? He got a song by Just Blaze that he just raps on. Mike Dean mixed all the songs. Did you read any of his album credits or did you just assume that he did them by himself? From what I'm reading on these credits, he seems to be guilty of the same shit you think it was wrong for Dre to do. His second and third albums are full of guest producers and studio musicians.

Documentary was like what? Three years ago? Quik's last album came out the same year. I'm not knocking Quik anyway because he's one of the very best doing it but the only work I can think of off the top of my head he's done since is co-producing with Snoop and Teddy Riley on Snoop's project and that Fixxers album that he has disowned. What is Quik putting out that shits all over this new Dre stuff that everyone thinks is garbage? I'm one of the few cats around here that actually gives props to Ego Trippin' so it can't be that.
I think it comes down to Quik never getting the props he deserves. Dre gets the recognition so it's more acceptable for people to shit on him. They both come up with some dope music so it don't matter but I'm just curious how people see things. Since Dre did Documentary and Quik dropped Trauma, both are classic albums by the way in my opinion. Why is Quik still consistent and Dre has fallen off? Then dre can get the drums and bass to bang around it along with the strings and everything else but firstly he needs to get back to his good melodies and sick drums because i havent either from dre in more than a minute. His mixing continues to get better and better but his recent production has been nothing above average mostly and alot of the producers mentioned in this thread have been much better than dre for the last couple of years atleast but that does not mean i think they are better producers than dre or im hating on dre. Im just open to praise and criticise peoples work as a listener of the music and as somone who still pays for shit.

D-Nice is 100 % right. There is no ONE in hip hop who had such an impact as a producer. Man Dre's a genius, people keep hating and hating on, but if Detox really drops one day, the hip hop game will be changed once again. I just hope he isn't playing with his loyal fans, because we waited really to god damn long for this album.

what i find funny is that some people think that the musicians who Dre works with really make a huge difference; Dre has worked with so many different musicians over the years and they have gotten credit for their work, while Dre got credit for his production work.
so if you really think that the musicians make a huge difference, then you don't really understand what a producer like Dr.Dre does.
you can say that you like the music that a certain combination of musicians made with Dre, over other "teams", but that's another story.

Yes it is going to get worse. I know for a fact that Dre's current decision with DETOX is a diferrent and more commercial vibe that anything he's done before. Not to mention he has indeed recorded with Fergie and Lil' Wayne and Iovine does have more influence on this than Dre's previous albums.
