I'll be back in this thread next week, but from the sounds of people, this album is not a return to a more political Ice Cube.

Yeah, the first time i heard "Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It", i thought the whole album would be a lil' different.

I wouldn't entirely say the album isn't political. I'm 5 songs through and we all know "G-Rap Made Me Do It" is political. "Hood Mentality" has a bangin beat but i would say it still has a nice hidden message; same with "it takes a nation."

For real. There's probably around 9-11 tracks where Cube is really saying something.  That is a big step up from LNCL.

after 2 quick listens - definitely gonna be copping this

1. intro - dope, n/a rating though
2. got my locs on ft. jeezy - 4.5/5 the beat and hook are 2 good/catchy 2 deny lol not typical cube, but a banger fa sho
3. it takes a nation - 3.75/5 pretty good beat and cube spittin some real shit
4. g-rap made me do it - 5/5 enough said bout this 1 classic shit at it's finest
5. hood mentality - 4.25/5 - great beat and cube spittin some real meaningful shit on here
6. why me - 4.5/5 dope laid back beat and musiq soulchild really does his thing on here
7. cold places - 3.75/5 - bout as good as it takes a nation imo, cool message
8. jack in the box - 3.25/5 - the beat is amazing, but that's really all that's good on this 1
9. do ya thang - 4/5 - 1st single, y'all all heard it, nuff' said
10. thank god  4.5/5 - great song, sick beat
11. here he come - 4/5 - cool record, doughboy spits nice, must be nice 4 your introduction 2 be by appearin on a cube cd lol
12. get money, spend money, no money - 5/5 - classic cube record
13. get use 2 it - 3.5/5 - bad beat and hook, cube raps avg on it; wc was cool and the game murdered it

I like what I've heard so far...Looks like another solid effort from Cube. The only flaw in his catalouge would probably be that "War & Peace" era and that second WSCG album.

-----------
What's the definition of a pyrcolastic flow?
that's what happen when a volcano blow,
that's what happens when Ice Cube starts to flow,
red hot lava mixed with saliva
pulverizing everything in its wake
nothing can survive a pyroclastic flow
and no one
will survive this one -

the album is def more political..
lyrically cube killed it...shame about some of the beats.
still a hot ass record but it could have been on another level with the right selection.
stand tall is the best cube record in years.....
locs on is one of the worst imo....

but whats up with producers using shit from other songs? ive feel like i have been hearin it a lot lately
Hood Mentality uses a portion of Twista's Creep Fast. Is that interpolation used from something else?

eh.. the only tracks i really like are g rap made me do it, do ya thang, why me, stand tall, and take me away... some others are cool, like tomorrow, cool places, and get used to it - the album is definitely uneven. couple dope songs here, couple wack ones after that... repeat and recycle

really the biggest problem with the album is the beats. combine the best of this with the best of LNCL and we got a winner

5. hood mentality -  :-X
8. jack in the box -  :-X
9. do ya thang -  :-X
11. here he come -  :-X
13. get use 2 it -  :-X

I love;
3. it takes a nation Dope 4 out of 5
4. g-rap made me do it - Instant CLASSIC! 5 out of 5
6. why me - Cool. 3.5 out of 5
7. cold places - Nice. 3.5 out of 5

So my overall rating ends at;
3 out of 5

star wars nerd still stuck on that g-funk shit ;D

get over it basement livin virgin...g-funk no more exists.

if somethings good then its good.

if its a GOOD south beat then bump it..but dont turn away from it JUST BECAUSE it happens to sound like a south beat nerdy nerd

Ok after several spins this album is finally not so bad...
I can dig most of these beats even if they sounds all the same
I agree when people say Cube still got it but I dunno
due to these repetitive hooks and the fact that theres no real banger track to me
this Ice Cube album is ok but the worst he ever dropped! still imo
Guilty By Affiliation >>>>>>>>>> Raw Footage

This album album fucking sucks. All the beats sound pretty much the same. The subject matter is alright, I guess... but what's that worth if that's one of the rare positive things about this album?

And what's up with the hooks? Cube's repeating the same words over and over again :-\ The highlights of this album are "I Got My Locs On" (with Young Jeezy; how ironic can it get?) and Musiq Soulchild's hook on "Why Me?"

Thank god for mp3 downloading because I probably would have wasted my money on this otherwise.

fuck the "fresh" ( ::) ) beats!!!

"bow down" "today was a good day" "natural born killaz", "greed", "no vaseline", "ghetto vet", "lil ass gee", "friday", last wordz"

THATS ICE CUBE, NOT THAT BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank god for mp3 downloading because I probably would have wasted my money on this otherwise.

finally two guys who dare to speak the truth. There are some ppl on here who would praise every Snoop/Cube  album regardless how bad it is. It's not bad because it's not "G-Funk Sound" or because the beats are too Southern, but because it sounds so crappy.
To be honest, I just gave it a quick listen, but most of what I heard sounded horrible. I'll relisten now and then judge it, but at the moment I can't imagine buyin this album. And I caNt see why people praise the lyrics so much....

I'll admit some of the beats sound the same (it takes a nation, cold places, thank god & here he come sound similar) but how the heck can u say "i got my locs on" is a highlight? It's a BANGER and fun to drive 2, but not what your used 2 hearing from cube and the lyrics from him are dumbed down to the max, plus the hook is the same repeating over and over again..Smegma, no offence, but u hate on me so much for liking some of the down south music, what is so special about this song or how does it stand out? it's easily the worst lyrical effort on the album and the hook is just as bad as the rest of the hooks; unless u just like the beat a lot (as i do).

I am not one who would praise Cube or Snoop for whatever effort; I tell it how it is.

Listen again, there are some great songs such as g-rap made me do it, why me, stand tall, take me away, get money spend money no money and some pretty good 1s such as it takes a nation, cold places, hood mentality, here he come, thank god and so on.

k after a second listen it sounds better. But I'm still disappointed

good songs

gangsta Rap made me do it
why me
stand tall

listenable/decent songs

it takes a nation (Cube came hard on this, but especially hook is wack)
hood mentality (beat is pretty nice- but song's nothing outstanding
cold places
do ya thang
get money spend money
take me away

unlistenable/wack ones

Thank God ( Cube needs to be slapped for this hook + nonsense song)
here he come ( I felt like I heard this beat for the third time)
Get used to it (biggest disappointment)
tomorrow
here he come
jack n the box (Cube's second verse is nice tho
I got my locs on (no comment)

They might sound similar, but Get My Locs On is club song. The others aren't. It's not quite on the same level as You Can Do It though.

Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It got old so quickly, it's not even funny anymore. This album sucks, get over it.

Maybe you look too much into it. I think Get My Locs On and Musiq's hook are the highlights of the album. The rest of the album sounds too similar to each other, the beats are wack, the hooks are uncreative and Cube's flow isn't what it used to be.

I liked the album, I thought it could have been a tad better for the long wait, but it was still solid nonetheless... I give it a 4/5 overall, gonna cop it on Tuesday

my favorite tracks:

I Got My Locs On
Why Me?
Get Money, Spend Money, No Money
Stand Tall
Take Me Away

and all the tracks that leaked before the album, even though they are old as fuck  8)

after the first two singles were released, it looked like cube was following the direction he planned for RAW footage, several months ago.
but after the release of do ya thang, and later the sampler and the leak it was pretty obvious that Cube didn't come through.
so the concept of RAW Footage turned out to be an illusion.
the title of the album is very misleading and nothing more than a gimmick.

anyway, i'm liking Gangsta rap made me do it, It takes a nation, Get money-spend money-no money and Tomorrow.
Thank God has potential, so it will probably grow on me; cold places might grow on me too but that's it.
some songs on there aren't even worth mentioning.
luckily, i'll probably be in for a treat, as soon as the real RAW Footage is available for purchase.

so right now, my overall rating of the album is 4/10

I am loving the album!!!!!  Yeah its different from the other releases, but its tight to me.  For the most part, he is touching on alot of today's political issues.  This is why this dude and Nas stands alone in the game, they speak their minds and don't give a damn if the negative media (Fox News etc...) don't like it.

I will say LNCL was better for me personally because when it came out, I was in Iraq and that CD got me through some tough times.  I am supposed to go back in November or December maybe, so this new CD will be going with me.  But this CD is pretty good too  IMO!!!!

Basically, I'm liking it so far...the only songs that really disappointed me were "I Got My Locs On" and "Get Used To It." "Locs" is just too damned simplistic lyrically...it doesn't fit in w/ the rest of the album! Did Cube add that one at the last minute, as a way of having a couple of "fun" songs (along w/ "Do Your Thang") to lighten the issues-oriented stuff? As for "Get Used To It," it's not wack per se, but it just seems like it could have been better considering who's on it.

But the rest of the CD is good-to-great...the beat on "Jack In The Box" sounds out of place w/ the lyrics to me for some reason, but the song is short enough so it's not too much of an annoyance. Lyrically, Cube came w/ it on most of the tracks, especially "Hood Mentality," "Cold Places," "Stand Tall," and "Take Me Away" (to name four). My favorite beat right now is probably the one on "Get Money, Spend Money, No Money"--it's just dark and moody-sounding, and Cube's slower flow just sounds nice w/ it.

I remember when LAUGH NOW, CRY LATER came out, there were elements of that CD that I couldn't get w/ right away (i.e., the Lil Jon tracks) but that CD's gotten better w/ age to where I now like most of the tracks that I originally didn't, and I imagine that the same will happen w/ RAW FOOTAGE. Just my opinion, though, and everyone's entitled to their's.

PEACE!

Quick little track by track review:

Intro - /
I Got My Locs On 3/5 --> Not a bad track at all but it should've been on Jeezy's album, sounds out of place
It Takes A Nation 4/5 --> Wack chours, dope track though
Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It 5/5 --> Perfect, best single in ages
Hood Mentality 4/5 ---> Lovely production, wack chours again
Why Me 5/5 --> Great production, great subject matter, great chours
Cold Places 3/5 --> Not a bad track, just sounds boring to me, dunno why
Jack In The Box 3,5/5 --> I have this track on repeat but only because the beat is epic, like a mix of Dre and Timbaland. 1st verse was weak, 2nd is dope, 3rd weak again.
Do Ya Thang 3/5 --> Not a bad single, another wack chorus with Cube just repeating the words, not the biggest fan of the beat
Thank God 3/5 ---> Annoying track, other than the nice beat, very generic for Cube's standards. Garbage hook
Here He Come 2/5 ---> Sounds out of place, another awful hook
Get Money, Spend Money 4/5--> Finally something I'd expect from Cube, simillar vibe to G Rap Made Me Do It. Great dark production with Cube doing his thing
Get Used It 3/5 ---> Dissapointment is the best way to describe it. Another wack hook, beat sounds alright, should sound dope in a system. Game's flow is off the hook.
Tommorow 4,5/5 ---> Don't know why but I love this track. From the beat to finally a dope chours and Cube spitting knowledge
Stand Tall 4/5 --> the beat puts me to sleep but other than that a solid track, nice storytelling
Take Me Away 4/5 --> Wtf. garbage hook from Butch, must have been Cube's idea. It's a shame that another track is ruined like that. Good subject matter

Cube is still interesting to liste to, better than the majority of the new rappers. But I don't mean to sound ignorant when I say that his hook game is awful and the production is questionable most of the time.

No, it didn't.

That being said, (ev'ry one in this thread is from the future poster above me) I really thought that this cd was tight. I didn't care for "Got my Locs On" whatsoever, but after that, the cd really picked up. There was more than one song that I was bobbin' my head to last night.  It's really not that much of a surprise, Cube hasn't came out with a wack cd in his carreer, dude is consistent. Scarface/Cube/Devin(that's right) are three artists that never come wack, and I can rock soooooo many tracks from those three, from years back.

And hey, if The Game would rip that shit like that on every track on a WSC cd, I'm all for it. They ALL tore that shit up.

its got the radio play sound to it, but i find id much rather bang out to I got my locks on rather then all that other bullshit thats gettin played. I can see this song getting heavy rotation on the radio, but this time its a dope artist.

PEACE!

+1

Anybody notice the advertisments at the back of the CD booklet advertising for K-Dee's "Ass, Gas, & Cash" album and also Kausion's "Los Skanless" album? Is Lench Mob Records going to reissue these?

Yup, I sure did notice those ads! I hope they get reissued! I have both on tape, but they're getting worn out. The OG CD releases are a bitch to find (and way expensive)! Both of them are bangin' albums that don't get the props that they deserve! We'll just to have to wait and see, but hope springs eternal!

Just to add to this review that I already did: I bought the Best Buy version w/ the bonus tracks: "Don't Let Me Hurt Your Feelings," Crack Baby?" and the live version of "Why We Thugs" (which features WC). The first two songs are really dope and both have some funny lines. IMHO, if they had been on the official CD instead of "I Got My Locs On" and "Get Used To It," RAW FOOTAGE would be even stronger than it already is, since to me,  "Locs" and "Get Used To It" just don't fit in w/ the rest of the CD's content. But hey--you can't have everything!  ;D The live version of "Why We Thugs" probably isn't essential per se, but it's fun to hear it done live, and since the lyrics were/are pretty issues-oriented to start with, it makes sense for it to be on RAW FOOTAGE, since the CD already has a pretty heavy amount of "issues" content. So it's cool.

I don't understand how you can rate song with 3/5 or soemthing and then write things like "garbage hook" or "annoying beat" right after. if it's annoying it's no 3/5  ???

Anyway:
I really like the album. It's an ode to gangsta rap. It has hard and bangin beats, an Ice Cube with anger in his stomache and it sounds very elaborate. Plus I love the fact that he put this guy on his album who also did the intro for WSC. The Intro on here is just amazing and then the first track starts, I was kinda overwhelmed.
The best track to me is "Stand Tall", that's what I would call G-Funk in 2008  :o
Very dope beat, super-tight synth and just a classic sample.

The Game is more mainstream now. Cube's album is good, reminded me Lethal Injection. But the Game has more better producers

I wouldn't say this is getting few views/replies, it's doing very well.

I hope everyone copped that new album; the south nor east would lever let Scarface/Nas flop, so the west better be the same for Cube.

My Favorite Tracks:
Gangsta Rap Made me do It
Hood Meantality
Why Me?
Cold Places
Tomorrow
Stand Tall
Take me Away
Crack Baby?
Why we Thugs LIVE

Tracks i'm not Feeling:
I got my Locs On (He should of had Game on this Track)
It Takes a Nation
Jack in the Box (he should of rap about his favorite combo at jack in the box  8)  :D )
Do Ya Thang (annoying track)
Thank God ( i was expecting something else)
Here he Come
Don't Make me Hurt Ya Feelings (Bonus Track)
Get Money, Spend Money, No Money (I was really looking foward to this track, it was a huge let down, he didn't stay on topic...only good thing about the track was the beat)

Get use to It (Another Track i was really looking foward To.......:grumpy: WOW, what a horrible track, horrible beat & Hook, Ice Cube's flow, lyrics were wack, WC didn't come correct........i thought Game was pretty good on this track.)

''women love it when they see me on that motorcycle, ni**as hate me 'couse i'm making more than Micheal''. DAMN i am BIG dissapointed with this album, when i heard he was making an album called Raw Footage and when i heard G rap made me Do It and It Takes a Nation i thought we was getting raw, on the government shitting, proffessional gangster rap but this is such a big dissapointment.
-G rap made me do it
-It takes a nation
-Get Money No money
-Stand Tall
-and that song on where he talks about downloading music, are the only songs i bump.

im listening to the album right now and i like it so far but its not topnotch shit

and if the track ft. wc and the game is a preview for the next wscg album, its probably gonna be wack, huge dissapointment

i think just like laugh now cry later i will only bump like 3-4 tracks from this album when we're in lets say, 2009
