Title: The Game - L.A.X - track by track votes and reviews
Post by: GunMaster G-9 on August 15, 2008, 11:27:50 AM
Vote for the songs you like from L.A.X. The ones you don't like, don't vote for and leave them blank. This will show you how popular the album is track by track. I did this same sort of topic When WC's Guilty by Affiliation dropped. Now i know the album has not even dropped yet.... and no dirty leak has leaked yet but still you can change your votes later on by just clicking ''Remove Vote'' and then you can vote again with updated thoughts on the album. I''ll lock voting 2 weeks after it drops.

State Of Emergency Feat. Ice Cube ------> that song is like the 80s beat with a 90s g-funk beat with a twenty first century rapper!! crazy song.... incredible production....
Money - Also feels 80s crack game shit....
Ya Heard Feat. Ludacris ---> has that whole Beverly hills cops 80s sample at the start.... they should have worked some more with the Axel Foley sample...

Touchdown (feat. Raheem DeVaughn) --> needs to be the next club single...

Games best tracks are when hes not talking about rehashed west coast topics like lolos, blunts, gangbanging etc cause i usually get bored. Hes more interesting when he raps on other topics like in Letter to the King or Doctors Advocate etc. On his first album it wasn't so bad but to repeat the same shit that wasnt that interesting before gets boring as hell to me. I liked tracks like Angel and the track with Raekwon was pretty hot but compared to the best tracks off DA or Doc so far these dont compare.

A lot of tracks didnt leave an impression on me at all which was rather disapointing and stronger hooks from Neyo, Latoiya and Michele could have made average tracks a lot better. Games improved lyrically imo but the album just sounds quite disjointed and formulaic. The best songs were songs that tried new things like Angel and Letter to the King. Still a good album but not any higher than 4/5

How can Iovine didn't force him to put that on 2nd single  ??? :o

Probably because Lil Wayne's buzz is so big at the moment, so it'll get even more attention(ofc it's good song too). And it's currently doing quite well on charts so it seems to be right decision.

No way, Touchdown sucks, it's your average chick song. I can already see skipping this one whenever I listen to the cd. He should drop Angel as the next single, amazing song (plus it has the commercial appeal).

Not a fan of touch down either, but doesn't take a genius to see it'd be a hit record if he dropped it; i also think this or gentleman's affair should be the next single.

"Angel" is a nice track but I still think that "Touchdown" would get more commercial play.

I am a big Game fan but IMO this album is lacking a "certified banger". This album is a great album dont get me wrong but just doesnt have that joint that is mind blowing on first listen. Just my opinion.

Man for real, you guys have to give Game a lil respect for this record. Why ? He knows where he's coming from. That "State Of emergency" track really surprised me, never thought a COMMERCIAL rapper would ever do such a 90s G-funk sounding track again. This is the real sound of the west coast that we miss...

Albums dope I reckon, didn't like the track with Luda at all, something bout that beat just didn't fit game, Cali Sunshine is sick as fuck, same with the ice cube track! Some certified bangers on here, although alot of the album is a little mellow and not as hard or raw as his previous shit, but I think the Superman mixtape will make up for that! Angel is a standout

That Jelly Roll produced track "Bulletproof Diaries" is my favorite
That beat is so complete and resulted and that collabo LA/NY is just amazing
both flows on point and fits perfectly the beat! Definitely an amazing track to me
Also I like the Latoya Williams assisted song which got a nice concept too

Tracks I wish was left off...

Intro, Outro
Cali Sunshine
Ya Heard
The Hook and Singer on LAX
Hard Liquor Interlude

the three worst tracks on the album are all back to back and it may hurt the overall flow of the album in the end. Big Dreams shoulda made it. It will be interesting to hear what these bonus tracks are looking forward to it. Probably games most complete album, but my personal favorite is still DA.

Touchdown is definitely hot as hell on that kinda neo-soul, J Dilla vibe...I know I can't be the only one who wasn't thinkin it sounded like a Slum track when I heard it. I think the whisper rhyme is kinda annoyin, but Raheem kills it, and it just has a great feel to it. It is more for the grown and sexy, and not really a club single for the typical hype dancing club heads.

House of Pain sounds RAW yes, but it's a mediocre imitation of Real Niggaz Don't Die  :P
and Game sounds like Dre again, like on his last album  :-\
i understand that it's his way of paying tribute but there are much better ways to do that
i mean this is more like an insult to NWA.
Real Niggaz Don't Die can't be duplicated.

i thoguht it was a solid album through out, not really any wack songs per say, more liek songs i just aint feeling but i know other heads woudl luv (ya heard, gentlemens affair), but i didnt think there was anysong that really stood out like an 'old english' or 'one night'....but deffinately a quality record, like someone said, i respect game cuz he's the only cat right now who's making music wit a 90's feel, not really compromising (for the most part)....only other mainstream dude doing that would be nas imo....

This Cd IMHO slightly below Mediocre. no real stand out tracks on the album.. besides let us live (he actually has substance/the msg chorus makes the song), angel feat common and the INTRO and thats it... disappointed. 2 songs paying homage... Pain--and the song about pac/biggie/eazy e?

Touchdown is definitely hot as hell on that kinda neo-soul, J Dilla vibe...I know I can't be the only one who wasn't thinkin it sounded like a Slum track when I heard it. I think the whisper rhyme is kinda annoyin, but Raheem kills it, and it just has a great feel to it. It is more for the grown and sexy, and not really a club single for the typical hype dancing club heads.

on point. but J holiday/FAT JOE i wont tell owns the hell out of this

I don't have time to do a track by track review right now, but this album is easily killing almost everything (if not everything) I've heard this year so far. I was worried about this album for some reason, but Game came through. Production is TOP notch too, I've bumped through it straight about 3 times so far, but that Ice Cube track is standing out as my favorite right now.

Not quite sure if it's touching D.A., but this is a sure heater.

"State Of Emergency" is fucking INSANE! I thought it was dope at first but after listening to it over and over it just gets better.

J.R. Rotem needs to do more songs that sound like "California Vacation" and "State Of Emergency", it mixes elements of the new style of production with that old West Coast flavor, fuckin' SICK!

I find the problem with albums leaking is that everyone's done with discussing it by the time the actual retail version comes out... but anyway, I picked this up this week and have given it a couple of listens.

My initial view, and this may change given that I've listened to it so little, is that it's a massive disappointment and by far the worst of Game's three albums. A few of the beats are very good and Game can still spit a hot rhyme here and there, but my overall impression is that the album is unfocused, like Game's unsure of who or what he's trying to target so just tries to hit every possible sound/demographic at once. Some of it I find literally unlistenable - the song with Ne-Yo is easily one of the most horrible attempts to make a commercial rap song I've heard in years. I think if you're generally a fan of commercial rap music, this album is probably OK. But I just found it boring. Maybe that'll change. Maybe not.

I don't think the track with Ne-Yo was an attempt at a commercial song, I think it's a little too obscene lyrically for radio play.

You're right - commercila is the wrong word. But it's a 'pop' song nonetheless - something for the ladies.

Congrats, lol.

For some reason, I'm not feeling the "Cali Sunshine" hook.  Bilal just isn't doing it for me.  The "Ya Heard" beat is too busy but still good.  "Let Us Live"  is a classic.  Chrisette Michele has a great voice and does the hook nicely (any more info on her?).  "Never can Say Goodbye" is exactly what I expected it to be, dope.  "Angel", another classic song with a great hook.  Overall, he did a great job on it.  Classic?  Only time will tell but the more I listen to it, the more I'm liking it and getting the feeling that it will be.

Classic?  Only time will tell but the more I listen to it, the more I'm liking it and getting the feeling that it will be.
ha, thanks!

Same; I am a BIG Bilal fan but he didn't bring it on this one. Ya Heard beat is indeed 2 busy for me. I LOVE Let Us Live. Damn, u ain't know Chrisette? She was on Jay'z "Lost Ones" and Nas' Hip-Hop Is Dead album. She's signed to Def Jam and put out an album last year that kind of went under the radar due to lack of promo.

Game's lyrically insane on this album. I get lost in his song when im high... Money is my favorite track.

Kanye told me that Jesus walks in 04
But I grew up around impalas and drug lords
Welcome to los angeles palm trees and drug stores
All we know is rocks and presidents like mount rushmore
Fuck the police they hop out and bust doors
I ain't goin back to jail nigga that's what I flush for
My money or my glock. Who do I trust more?
I don't know it's prolly the one that I touch more
Guess It's the green cuz paper motivate niggas
And my rolex races cuz it hate niggas
I used to only sell eighths
Like that laker nigga
and now I'm movin twenty fours like I play at the staples center
you might miss the game so nigga don't blink
my phantom stand out like frank lucas mink
so go ahead and think
like frank lucas think
somebody'll find your brains on the fuckin kitchen sink

"Letter to the King" is straight fire... for me it's the best Game song ever. His third verse is so awesome. He gotta do a collabo album with Nas 'cause Mr. Jones always brings the best of him.
Pictures I paint, make Mona Lisa look like fake art

Her voice is just perfect. She can sing about making cupcakes and it sounds good.

I think the album is sick. Right now it feels it might be Game's best actually, but I'll see how it stands against the test of time.

It's much easier for me to list the disappointing songs than the good ones, mostly 'cause I only don't like one: Ya Heard. That just sounds like a mess to me.

Otherwise - solid. Sure not every track is equally good, but I got no complaints. There's a couple expcielly SICK ones though - Money, Let Us Live (dizzam!) and my absolute favourite - Angel. That track is just excellent.

Not really feeling the album, but props to Game for still keepin it real hip hop. No corny poppy tracks with Fergie on there for example

Real Nigger Don't Die can't be duplicated.

that's not where the sample even comes from........it's from the stop the violence commercial......and he sounds nothing like dre on that track IMO...his flow is more raspy...(maybe on the hook)...

the parts i listened to at the time i posted that, made me think it was Dre  ;)

i see what you're saying though; who else could it be  :P
MC Ren? the DOC?  :-\
