Title: Warren G Interview!
Post by: Lunatic on October 24, 2008, 09:26:24 AM

It's been over 14 years since west coast veteran Warren G dropped his debut album Regulate...G-Funk Era. With Nate Dogg appearing on the lead single, "Regulate" went on to be a major hit which catapulted the album to selling over two million copies. Needless to say, the pressure was on Warren G to come back with an even bigger hit on his sophomore effort. The second studio effort from Warren G, Take a Look Over Your Shoulder was released three years after the debut and spawned hits such as "I Shot the Sheriff" and Smokin Me Out" which featured the legendary Ronald Isley; the album was certified gold, but failed to reach the success that Regulate...G-Funk Era had seen just three years earlier.

Warren G's career since then, has seen many up and downs, including the successful third album I Want It All and the less than impressive 213 group effort (alongside Snoop Dogg & Nate Dogg). With his last three albums being released on three separate record labels, Warren G has been through it all when it comes to label politics which includes a sour stint at Universal Records for his forth album, The Return Of The Regulator.

After his latest album In The Mid-Nite Hour was a successful independent project, Warren G has once again switched labels to yet another independent label to release his sixth studio effort The G-Files. The album will feature guest appearances from Ray J, Travis Barker and many more. Warren G took the time to talk about the new album in this exclusive interview.

Raptalk.Net: Do you have a personal favorite new west artist?

There ain’t any new west artists. You mean west coast artists?

What I really wanna know is where he came up with that idea for the "Crush" track.  That track was amazing! People don't know he actually wrote that! And he visualized Ray J jumping on it and blowing on the hook.  That was an amazing track man.  His lyrics have stepped up and he's a true hitmaker in this industry.  I like how he always goes on MTV and does the celebrity shows too.  Warren G is an icon in this game and there's not too many like him that make music like he does.

Anyone privledged enough to see him perform "Crush" live? Man that track just bumps in my ride all day!

thanks, cool interview. if you didn't know who did the interview before you read it the knoc-turn'al questions gave it away instantly 8) lol

when is knoc gonna bring out a new album anyway?

not sure about this new warren g he's always very quick to praise all his own work (deservedly so) but some of this newer stuff hasn't been the same quality as his earlier records. i'll reserve judgement until i hear it and no doubt it'll be a lot better than most the trash coming out.

thanks for the interview; i totally forgot about his new album   ;)

Quote
Raptalk.Net: You’ve always put out three other records on the internet. Will “Mr. President” “Virgin” and “Ringtone” still be appearing on the album?

No. “Mr. President” was a record I did with an up and coming artist that I was working with. I just produced the track and they rapped on it and did a song to it.
:-\ too bad.
not sure what to expect of the album now; Warren didn't impress me with those other tracks at all.

Quote
Raptalk.Net: So that means this is definitely not the last Warren G album?

This definitely won’t be the last Warren G album! I’m going to make records until I’m 80 years old.
that's cool, unless the quality decreases off course

Quote
Raptalk.Net: How would you compare this album to the last one, “In the Mid-Nite Hour?”

I got a lot more young and up and coming artists on this one. On the last one I had more known artists. As far as production, it’s hot just like it was on “In the Mid-Nite Hour.” That was an incredible record by the way; I can’t even lie about that one.

i'm not counting on that, but it's still possible.

Quote
Raptalk.Net: Have you submitted any material for “Detox?”

I submitted a couple of songs. You know (Dr.) Dre; you have to go hard with it to get that record on there. I mean he’s not that difficult, you just have to come with it! I sent him a few records that he liked – if he is going to use them, I don’t know. He liked some of the records that I gave him.
interesting.
but everybody has submitted tracks by now

warren's best albums were his first 3.

he fell off after ROTR was released.

but there's still always a few tracks that are decent on his newer stuff. i dont like the direction hes going with his newer albums, but he's still ok
