Track was genius; well written and well produced. I don't think i've heard a better homage than that given to Slim Thug by Lupe. Easily one of Lupes best tracks and a true hip-hop classic.
2. Bishop Lamont - Grow Up

The first verse is really powerful to me and made me rewind the track quite a few times which is unusual with me when listening to current rap tracks. At first I was a bit disappointed by the track, expecting something on the level of Still Dre or Gin & Juice yet this track serves a completely different purpose. Bishop does what Jay Z did throughout Kingdom Come, he talks about the immaturity of not only hip hop but aspects of black culture in America, and he does it better than Jay.
3. Jay Electronica - Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge)

Just an amazing track... Jay is the best up-and-coming rapper from the south by far. Forget your Wayne's, TI's, Rick Ross's, it's all about Jay Electronica. Just Blaze has hooked up with him and you can expect HUGE things from Jay next year. This track just defines his work; it's refreshingly good after listening to such stale hip hop.
4. Sway - Pray 4 Kaya

Sway moves from strength to strength, and his sophomore album, The Signature LP, was better than his first. Sway has managed to maintain his lyrical dominance with wittiness unmatched by most rappers. This track though is sombre and is a heartfelt tale of his friend's car accident in which she ends up in a coma. Sway is able to transfer his emotions beautifully and thus I feel this track deserves some recognition.
5. Young Jeezy ft. Nas - My President Is Black

This almost pained me to add a Jeezy song to the list. I have hated Jeezy ever since he ruined Ludacris' song Grew Up A Screw Up. However with The Recession I felt Jeezy turned a corner and dropped a decent album. He tackled some serious issues throughout the album and I think this is the most recognizable. In a year in which Obama was elected President I think this track is the true anthem. Much like Rich Boy, Jeezy surprised me with his ability to rap about political issues. All I can wish is that southern rappers continue to move towards more political issues because I feel they have a lot to say coming from a region that was and still can be extremely racist.
Anyway thats my list.

My top 5 songs off the top of my head (in no particular order)
1. Slim Thug feat. Devin The Dude - Bitch I'm Back
I never was a big Slim Thug fan but this track is great. It involves quality storytelling about the positive and negative aspects of his career, fly Devin hook and nice laid back beat from Dre with a killer bassline. Great song to smoke to.
2. Bishop Lamont - Grow Up
Definetly not what anybody was expecting but that's the type of rapper Bishop is. A single with actual substance, telling every rapper what we always say: to show growth, stop with the pety beefs and release quality hip-hop music; to grow up. Bishop could've went the safe rout and dropped a club or a chick singer but he took a chance and went out of the box. I smell a simillar outcome as Chamillionare had with Ultimate Victory, so Bishop is probably gonna get dropped. Dre delivered a beat with some fly guitars, polished piano and those big clapping drums. However, you can tell that the track wasn't completley finished (confirmed from Bishop and Dre), so again thanks to Matty for improving the quality.
3. Ludacris - MVP
Ludacris over a Premo beat, nothing more to be said. Shame that the album was garbage but that's another story.
4. The Game feat. Common - Angel
Just a real feel good track, was great to listen to in the summer. Hook gives me chills everytime I hear it and Game & Common did the beat justice.
5. Snoop Dogg - Press Play
A really strong opening of the otherwise weak album. Has that classic 99-02 westcoast feel with Kurupt doing the adlibs and Quik dropped one of the best, if not the best beat of 08.
Sly Fox and Hero from Nas and No Matter What (T.I.) are next in line.

DJ Ak Ft. Knoc-Turn'al Gangsta Lean
Knoc kills the beat and delivers outstanding bars. The beat is smooth and straight classic west coast which lately seems to a rare gem to find. I can get high to this, I can bump it in my whip, I can get down at a party. Hell, I studied to this joint.
Lloyd Banks Shine Thru
Banks rips this track a new one with complete honesty. He blew my expectations by spitting his soul. While the beat comes from Jay Rock, Banks does it justice. Peep this track.
Nas Testify
Only Nas would make a joint dissing white folk while acknowledging they supply him his income. A laid back beat with Nas spitting his truth even if I don't support his entire message, I vibe along. This shows the complexity of Nas as a rapper and an individual.
Bishop Lamont Everyday
Everyone seems to have finally respect Grow Up but this track kills. Lamont spits a message of support as your personal motivational speaker. Can't tell you how many times I had this track on when I was strugglin'. Hot classic by Lamont.
Astronautalis Ft. P.O.S The Story of My Life
Astronautalis is not a typical rapper. He's considered backpack artist by most tradition rap fans but he represents a section of hip-hop whether you accept or not. Aided by P.O.S they kill this beat and spit poetry about their lives. Shit bangs hard and is the truth.
Stat Quo Act Up
Stat is the final artist of this list to pleasantly surprise me. He released two banging mixtapes for free and is dropping a third tomorrow. Additionally, similar to bishop Lamont he spit straight truth in interviews. That's all I ever expect from an entertainer. This track is just a hype track, feel good music.

And now I'm not sure if it was Dae One who is Bishop's close producer or Bishop himself said it in an interview that they leaked that track themselves without approval of Jimmy and Dre, like 50 does. I can't find it since the search function is fucked up.

95% of all Dr. Dre instrumentals sound like loops, lol. The instrumental was sent out by the people Bishop works with. They wouldn't put out unfinished track and if they would, Bishop Lamont is the biggest fuck up on Aftermath ever.

Eh ? That's commonm pratice on Aftermath, unless you're Dre or Em. 50 leaked Wanksta, Disco Inferno (which was also unfinished), Straght To The Bank and Get Up; Busta leaked Touch It and Game Higher. They all said that they did it because Interscope wasn't doing shit and we know that Dre likes to take his time.
BTW Grow Up has a snyth (if thats the right name) in the chours, the instrumental doesn't --> loop.
