does anyone/everyone/noone believe in the term "addiction"
I have always wondered about this, cuz to me its all choices, not by force.
therefore someone sayin their "addicted" to
smokin
fuckin
drivin
workin
laughin
lookin
takin (whatever)
is b.s. to me
thats all choices
like to know everyones input on this
-
yep i believe in addiction, but yeah ofcourse with will power you can beat it
-
What? You might not have enough life experience then.
-
for example:
nah i cant stop smokin?
thats dumb as fuck, I smoked, but I quit
nah i cant stop watchin football
you started, why not finish?
theres no valid reason(s) in thinkin addiction is valid to begin!!
-
how can you not believe in addiction is beyond me. take a walk down the street mate.
-
Try smoking crack for a year and then quiting by choice.
-

Yeah but the point is that at some point they were addicted and had to break the addiction. It depends on the person, (like always) people are different. Some people can break an addiction with the snap of their fingers...others could go a week without something then relapse and go back to it.
-
I believe in addiction, im addicted to my PS3 lol as pathetic as it sounds, I can stop playing it but its constantly in the back of my mind and disrupts me from concentrating on anything, completely fucked up my grades and social life for the last year 1/2
-
WTF?
People are coming up with stupid ass responses. Im addicted to video games? No motherfucker, U LIKE video games. You're ADDICTED to smoking cigarettes because nicotine, people who smoke for 30 years dont smoke cause it tastes good, they smoke because of a NEED for nicotine in the brain and bloodstream (or whatever exactly it affects). To say addiction isnt real is dumb as fuck.
-
Addicted to pussy
-
nah I wanted cats input on this shit
everyone has their own input
i jus think its a choice vs need or cant live without
you wont die if you dont have pussy, beer, football, school, work etc....

how come when you give a homeless person money?
they can choose what to do wit it?
therefore if they were crackheads, it be in auto-drive
nah they decide, beer, cigars, pussy etc....

I WAS ADDICTED TO WEED. I've been clean since Oct. of '07.
I am addicted to cigs. I quit for a whole year a couple of years ago, and I'm trying to quit again, on 7 days now.
I don't drink at all anymore cuz I can tell what will happen..
Everyone wastes alot of money at coke at some point in their lives, but that's an addiction too if you spending like that.. Clean on that for 2-3 years.
-
example?
have you ever heard of a physical addiction
have you ever heard the term "sick" used to describe someone who is going through withdraws from heroin, meth, crack? what do you think that means? it means they actually get sick when theyre junkies and theyre chipping for more.
theyve done the drug so much, their body thinks it cant live without it.
that is addiction.
of course they could stop, but its not as simple as waking up one morning and saying "oh, i dont want heroin anymore".
addiction is very much real. if you dont believe, ask any doctor, any person whos been clean, people going to NA/AA, tbeyll tell you the really real.

Yup. People lose all potential and health in their lives when they get hung up trying to throw theirselves to a "fix" that doesn't do anything but "break" you more...
enyce, it's not fake. When you get high and you have that feeling. Then you become sober and you realize you liked the high reality more, why not just get the high reality as much as you can if it makes you feel better? It's reallly hard to be a fuckin man and say "i gotta learn to live with life and myself, without using tools to soften the blow of reality".
-
respect everyones input
jus dont believe in it
-
You are naive... simply because addiction isn't a "belief" its actually something that exists
-
nah its all good
not everyone believes in this by the way
the cats that believe in it should hold a press meetin, cuz there are many who dont
You are naive... simply because addiction isn't a "belief" its actually something that exists

I guarantee you are addicted to at least 1 thing..and anyone who doesn't "believe" in it... well... isn't a very intelligent person lmao. Sorry for your luck my friend ::)
-

Let's go back to your original post. You pitted addiction versus choice. "You aren't addicted, you have chosen it." So when you eat 4 pizzas a day, it's your choice.. You're not addicted to an obviously unhealthy amount of pizzas a day, it's your choice to put your body at risk more than you know it should be?? Why do you eat the 4 pizzas a day? Because they are so good, you get an impulse. Why not eat the best tasting food over something else??
Your mind knows it's not good for you, you know it's not good for you. But for some reason you can't resist the impulse, and you don't care about the consequences.. You are now putting your health at risk to make yourself feel better. Are you eating the pizzas because you are addicted, or because you only live once and want to enjoy the things that you enjoy?
-
first off good lookin on havin this debate in a gangsta manner (that was my intention)
but yeah IMO thats 300% choice
great example, but thats the problem its a great example of a choice
respect everyones input
jus dont believe in it

youre stupid

people who are addicted to drugs dont have a choice, until they forcibly kick the habit (NA/rehab/etc). the drug fucks with their brain so much, they may THINK they have a choice, but they dont. they may wake up and say "i want to get high". their junkie mind makes em think its their choice to shoot up or chase the dragon, but its not. its the drug manipulating them into thinking they dont NEED the drug and that its their choice to get high. lock up a junkie in a room for 12 hours, and that "want" becomes a very real "need"...at least in the junkies mind. because of course NO ONE needs crack/meth/heroin to survive, but they think they do. and when their bodies dont get it, they literally become sick. theyve become dependent on the drug to live a "normal" day to day life.
-
real shit but Id say thats different than bein addicted

i see it bein different in a sense
lock em in a room, they want it but they can come up with other ways to handle they shit, therefore its not an addiction
i mean homie said ask a doctor, doctors are even sayin there might not be such a thing

if you lock em up in a room, its NOT their choice. YOURE the one locking them in, taking their freewill away. if theyre locked in a room, they have NO choice but to stay in there...but belive me, that junkie is gonna try and do anything and everything to get out of that room to get their drug of choice.
if they had a choice they would go out and cop to get high and fuck staying in a locked room while theyre getting sick.
-
goddamm, allright you can get physically addicted to some drugs to where youll get sick if you dont take it, you are physically addicted. THIS DOES NOT MEAN IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET CLEAN AND REMAIN CLEAN. it means that you are physically addicted which makes getting clean much harder than just "willing" yourself off the drugs. there is no input or opinions about that it is a fact
-
addiction can be broken, doesnt mean it cant exist, you can be addicted to something and beat the addiction. really quite simple.

Yup, addiction is mental. And for the physical addiction, its your body reacting to not having it, like when you a diabetic, if you dont get enough insulin your body will start shutting you down, whether you want the insulin or not.
-
think what you want I guess
-
Everything in life is a choice...addiction will cause you to make the wrong choice. If people have an extreme desire to quit smoking cigs, and they go several days w/o one, but then all of a sudden they get stressed and then have one, yes, they made the choice to have one, but they knew it was the wrong choice. The addiction caused that choice.
-
thats where we disagree I guess

-
i guess you haven't had a family member who had a problem with crack to really see addiction for what it is. it's very real and can ruin your life in certain cases
i smoke weed every day... don't think i'm addicted though. i've gone through stints in which i didn't smoke for a couple of weeks (around christmas time to save money for presents) i don't have any physical addictions thank god.
it's easy to get addicted to shit. hell, you can get addicted to diet coke.
-
You choose to take something addictive, but you may not necessarily choose to become addicted to it.
-
i know all about coke/crack
i watched my brother who had it all.....family/kids/good job.....loose it all and attempt suicide just 2 weeks ago on account of that chit (he tried to OD on someone elses MEDS. so i know all about it......tried it (Hell! I Even Smoked Crack Wit Him & I'm Just Being Real). but i stick with my chronic and will continue to do so (I Don't Fuck Wit That Chit Anymore!). Yeah dat. Tried It All! Just Never Touched The Needle.
-
I choose to become addicted to dubcc,it be one hell of a thing to leave too
I can see I will be here til I am 90
-
I just went through hell from being addicted to Klonopin for about a year
I still have the urge to pop a few now and then but just smoke some weed instead and it ends up getting me more anxious
never had that problem before
-

addicted to milk?? please tell me who said this, and gimmie their address so i can smack em upside the head for saying some stupid shit like "im addicted to milk".
then again, it could of just been an expression..just to exaggerate how much they like milk.
how the fuck can someone get addicted to milk?? nigga we talking about, or at least im talking about substances that you PHYSICALLY get addicted to. shit that will make you SICK if you go without it...not fucking milk or psychological "addictions".
btw, you never came back with a rebuttal on the "choice/locking up a fiend in a room" part we had going. couldnt come up with one? lol
