Title: Big C-Style Presents 19th Street LBC Compilation
Post by: Okka on February 09, 2009, 04:32:20 AM

Once again, i bumped this shit from the beginning to end. I gotta say this is one of my favourite West Coast/Dogg Pound compilations ever. Crooked I is so raw on this, Tray Deee always droppin' heat, everybody came correct on this shit. It's a shame that The Low Lifes album never got released, they got dope flows and lyrics.

word! "jackin for flows" is a great song, pure hip-hop. Crooked has crazy flow and delivery on every song he is on. Classic album in my book.

This is good stuff, Crooked came hard.
It's kinda ironic that Crooked choose Death Row over DPG because he thought he was gonna release his album earlier...he didn't get his album released, Death Row fell hard + he got DPG-blackballed. I doubt he would've gotten it worse if he signed with Daz...

yeah snoop was around...he helped bring a lot of that compilation together I believe...that is why swoop g got kicked off the compilation...he was on the original version of bustaz.  Apparently kurupt was on some tracks too...I guess they did several versions of some tracks.  Dubcnn did an interview w/ Perfec (Mark Spitz) a couple years back, and he gives a lot of cool insight onto this compilation.

It was probably money was the reason swoop and dpg were beefing.  but yeah, I'm pretty sure swoop g was taken off the song due to the beef.

yeah...in the interview perfec talks about how kurupt was originally on the chorus of a song, but then got switched out to give him a chance.  I don't know, its been a couple of years since I read the interview, but a lot of cool stuff from it.  He talked about how many guys were around the studio back in the day, and just how much music they used to make that has never seen the light of day.  Maybe someone from dubcnn can give a link to that interview...I looked for it and can't find it...hell, maybe I read it from a different website.

what aws it like working with Crook back then??  was Snoop around?

yeah snoop was around...he helped bring a lot of that compilation together I believe...that is why swoop g got kicked off the compilation...he was on the original version of bustaz.  Apparently kurupt was on some tracks too...I guess they did several versions of some tracks.  Dubcnn did an interview w/ Perfec (Mark Spitz) a couple years back, and he gives a lot of cool insight onto this compilation.
Yea it was cool workin with crooked back then, he's a cool dude, as talented as he is and was he was always a humble man... and yea Snoop was around, that's him on that hook on " stay out of LA "

what was your fav track on that CD?

were Snoop and Crook cool back then i assume??
my favorite songs on that album were... Stay out of LA, flossin, gangsta gangsta, and papa chasin.... and yea dogg and crooked use to get along back then.. we were a big family cocked bac ready to take the game by storm... but unfortunately ..life happens............

was the album catching any buzz when it came out?  like magazine reviews anywhere?

or just underground?

I originally heard some of these tracks while hanging on the Andy block in Long Beach years ago... I ended up buying it a couple months later at the record shop. I bang the shit out of that cd on the regular. Great album!

Album did not have a big promotion at all, but has became a classic real fast when you ask fans of westcoast music (you could call it easily LBC music) , think I remember some adds in The Source magazine, same was with BIG C STYLE presents: Straight Outta Cali, and VA: Escape From Deathrow albums.

C STYLE PRESENTS 19 STREET LBC COMPILATION - - - C STYLE PRESENTS STRAIGHT OUTTA CALI ---- VA: ESCAPE FROM DEATHROW  (CLASSIC TRILOGY, ITS A MUST HAVE)

I think these tracks was recorded in 1995-1998? 1999 was the first time Snoop started fuckin with Goldie Loc.
