Title: so Jay-Z wrote 'Still Dre', but in return he only got Dre featured on "Watch me"

sounds like a bad deal to me(excluding the financial part off course), to only have Dre on the chorus.
it would have been better if he had at least one Dre produced track on The Life and Times of S. Carter.
yes he got The Watcher part 2, but that was 3 years later.

the beat of Watch Me is ok though.

Thats more than some people get in return from Dre. Then again, its less that some cases. Dre is a weird character - bottom line.

Didn't a Dre/Aftermath Produced track appear on Blueprint 2? "Watcher 2" (prob given to Jigga)
+ The Dre/Aftermath produced track's on Jay's "Kingdom" Come"

sound's like a deal to me.

yeah i'm glad that they worked together again on Kingdom Come(fuck Trouble though :P).
but with this topic i'm referring to the 2001/ The Life and Times of S. Carter period ;)

truthfully, i couldnt give a shit about what dre gave jigga in return because still dre is one of the best hiphop first singles ever for beat, hook, g'd up lyrics and as a track overall. Amazing. What jigga got in return? lol, good question, the shit dre gave him on kingdom come was a failure, jigga needed a bigger sound and dre was still working on a new sound at the time, the timing was all wrong for the two heavyweights to meet up.

As for trouble, just to let y'all know, jigga ripped that joint, the beat was decent too...imo

pz!

I reckon Trouble was dope! Minority Report was the illest joint on the album though...

What did Jay get? Prolly a fuck load of money, and got to be part of one of the dopest albums in hip hop history...

Dre had alotta ghost writers, and contributorsthey can't all get something, he ended up getting "Watcher Part 2" so that was all good...

yeah it just depends on how you look at the "exchange".
it's all subjective at the end of the day.

for Jay-Z, probably  ;)
but not for me  ;D
i would have liked to see a Dre track on The Life and Times of S. Carter ;)

then again, i'm not aware of any leftover material of the album.
anyone?

Maybe Jay already had the track completed and thought it would be cool to have Dre on the hook. On top of that possibly deadlines and other things could have had something to do with it. But if you look at when Dre worked with Nas after It Was Written they did a ton more work together then Jay did with him.

good point.

maybe i should sue Jay-Z & Dr.Dre for not making a track together, for The Life and Times of S. Carter ;D

Yeah it never really made alot of sense to me. Other than The Watcher 2 the tracks they have done with Jay rapping over Dre beats sound thrown together (Kingdom Come)

I agree with you. Jay's verses in exchange to Dre's fatigued hook was a bad bargain to Jay. The verses Jay wrote to Dre weren't the realest shit ever written but way better than what D.O.C.'s Oxycontin head can scribble. In my opinion Jay-Z should have taken this in to hood court back in the day but the fruit basket and Watcher Pt.2 sent 3 years later probably compensated the disparity to Jay.

What about Kurupt? All over 2001, and the track he gets for his album is also used by Dre and released on the same day. lol

Could be Jay had Dre beats around that time but decided not to use them. Could have happened, like it did for Black Album.

Here's the original "The Watcher 2", Snoop only added his verse to it though.

Yeah that was hella fucked up. Unfortunately, I believe that was still the last time we heard Kurupt on a Dre beat.
